There are maybe half a dozen guys who would be considered legends. He's not one of them. He talks a big game, and maybe to an extent he has some credibility to do that, but I would find it hard for someone like Lalas to criticize someone like Christian Pulisic for a variety of reasons. He embraces being the dickhead, and I guess he's been a success in that respect because people don't like him. I don't get insight, personality or anything from him. He's contrarian. A ginger soccer Bill Maher.

He's taken the stance that he's a Provocateur and a lot of what he says is to generate discussion or backlash. A lot of it is basically a bit. Does he mean what he's saying or is it to be controversial? What's real? It's effective in that respect, but it's boring.

Doesn't do it for me, but a lot of these pundits don't across most sports and networks. I suppose I'm not alone. It's probably a harder job than we realize, but how hard is it to find someone that's decent? As ND football fans, I know we've asked this of NBC for a long time.

Twellman, Holdman, Dempsey, Donovan, Howard are all more engaging. Donovan and Howard's podcast is quite good. They're a good balance. There isn't much there for shock or controversy.
I can't tell if you're discussing him or yourself.... Not a fan of Donovan, but Howard or Dempsey would be good. And I still like the non-legend Lalas.

To the bolded. No shit.

All this love for Messi...everyone keeps forgetting about Mbappe...that guy is going to blow up records
His individual accomplishments have probably already cemented a legacy.

That's not how this works, though, as you well know. The public and pundits are going to want to see a La Liga title and a European Cup. None of which he's won as of yet at.

I am under the assumption that at some point he's going to have all three and likely multiple of each.

***Corrected. Mbappe won a World Cup in 2018.

One thing about the studio crews,… lot of these guys genuinely don’t seem to like each other, lots of smug smiles and side eyes

No hiccup. I'm a complete moron. I don't know sports. Or anything.

Totally forgot about 2018.

So his legacy now rests on doing something at Real Madrid at the club level. Champions League mostly. And considering PSG climbed that mountain for the first time, back to back no less, without him says quite a bit about the urgency for him to get it done in Madrid.

Mbappe sort of the opposite of Messi. Messi needed that World Cup to solidify himself as one of the greats. His club career was insane.

Well full honesty I’ve been so out of the loop with euro soccer I legit just learned he wasn’t on the psg champions league teams,… I just assumed he was and haven’t watched in the last few years… that actually has me curious they move him to Real and win back to back?? How’d that happen?

Messi's legacy was safe regardless i would think. Just listen to coaches and players talk about him.

He will probably blow up the World Cup goals record, but that’s about it. A lot easier to score in the World Cup now that it’s an expanded tournament, meaning more games and more importantly, far inferior opposition.

At Mbappe’s age, Messi’s already had won 5 Ballon d’ors, Mbappe has yet to win once, and surprisingly has only finished top 3 a single time. Club stats, Messi is way ahead and unlikely to be caught, having 2 40 goal seasons and a 50 goal one in the bag, marks Mbappe hasn’t come close to. In La Liga play, Messi averaged a rediculous rate of over a goal per 90 min. Messi’s career assist totals might not be approached in our lifetimes. Even the 4 champions league titles probably are unlikely to be matched by Mbappe, who’s still searching for his first.

Mbappe can probably aim to rival Ronaldo’s career, but Messi will be in his own tier.

With this, I agree. I think Messi has been doing it for so long it has become normalized to some degree and he almost gets underestimated.

On another note, man I just love watching Erling Haaland play. He's just such a monster out there on the field. I've never cottoned on to a European club, but I might follow Manchester City now because of him.

I think we are in an era where records could fall consistently for a while now,…

I’ll never understand the Lalas hate,… he’s a member of the generation that took US soccer from complete joke that couldn’t beat small Caribbean teams to internationally competitive, he was among the first of our first boys to play in any kind of major euro league, and on tv he plays the role of the American partisan well. Dude is a legend, let him cook.

Also, if any European fans are complaining about immigrants on the US team they’d better not be French,… lol
Brother, let me tell you about a game from 2017. It was a rainy October night at Ato Boldon Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States need a point to qualify for the World Cup...
