Tea leaves are suggesting Real Madrid are going for Alexander Arnold, Saliba and Rodri.

I have to assume this is nothing more than transfer gossip because I fail to understand where they can find the money to buy the latter two and the wages to pay all three on top of who they already have in their squad.
Zero percent chance that will happen.
On top of the fact that Madrid were embarrassing during the Ballon d'Or award ceremonies this season, and Rodri certainly took note of how they disrespected him by not showing up in protest for Vinny Jr, he is under contract until June 2027
Pep would have never extended his contract with City a few months ago if there was even a small inkling that he wouldn't have arguably the best defensive midfielder ever coming back for the 2025-2026 season.

It's more likely City makes a real run at Camavinga if they can secure Champions League football, then for Madrid to get Rodri.

I agree. The likelihood seems very low but even with TAA likely going there on a free, the wages they're going to be paying him on top of who they already have on their squad doesn't seem like it is financially plausible for anyone let alone a club that not all that long ago had some difficulties with their books.

I don't understand how with the supposed financial turmoil that Spain, La Liga and their clubs are supposedly enduring Real Madrid can do some of what they do while Barcelona remains somewhat of a mess.

People much smarter then me would have a better understanding on this, but in my opinion the Spanish Government and Spanish ruling class have a huge vested interest in Real Madrid being the beacon of the sporting world, and that plays a big part in why they have been able to do what they have done financially since the first modern Galactico Era at the turn of this century.

This whole wholesome idea of "Fan Ownership" in the form of Socios is B.S.

They'd be a state run club, but covert. Makes sense.

I don't think there is much difference with Europe and North America in the sense that the average mid class family can't really afford to attend sporting events regularly, if at all. It's all coming down to being wealthy and or a tourist.

Tourism seems to be a huge portion of attendance at a good majority of English Premier League games. Some clubs more than others, but it's becoming a lot more prevalent up and down the country among clubs.

Again, can't speak on La Liga, but I'd venture to guess Real and Barca are on the list of things to do for people who travel to Spain.

Yep, its a thing...had the chance to experience as my boys had the chance to train at Barcelona in 2021, Real Madrid in 2022, and West Ham/Man City in 2023.

Wow, Wrexham wins promotion again. Three time in 3 years. May have to start watching their TV show.

It's never been done until now.

I wonder if Rob and Ryan are close to breaking even on their investment yet.

In a strange set of coincidences, my family and I actually visited Wrexham and walked around the stadium several years ago, right after Rob and Ryan bought the club. We were in north Wales to see the castles, and went to Wrexham to see the church, which is the burial place of Elihu Yale, the guy who gave all the money to found Yale University. My dad went to Yale for grad school, so I thought it would be cool to see and get some pictures for him. Wrexham AFC really wasn't a big deal then, though a couple of the locals asked us if we knew anything about the new owners, as if we would know! We go to Wales often, my mother-in-law was a war bride from Swansea in south Wales, and met my father-in-law in London during the war. She went looking there looking for work and he was a US Navy code clerk working in the embassy there, they met in a pub. My wife's relatives all still live in Swansea, and are all Swansea Jacks, supporters of the Swansea club. One of the uncles lives in the hills above the Liberty Stadium, you can look down in there the at night when it's all lit up. Been to that stadium several times, it's only a mile walk from the uncle's house. Also been to The Vetch, Swansea's old grounds in downtown Swansea.
Swansea City AFC has an eerily similar story to Wrexham. There is a documentary film from about 10 years ago called Jack To A King, tells how Swansea City went from almost bankrupt and in the lowest levels of the Football League to the Premiership.

Very cool story. Thanks for sharing!

Wonder how Gary Neville is feeling today.
Tbh he should be feeling (mostly) fine. Liverpool has won two league titles in my life.

Gary Neville won eight by the time i was 19.

ManU's struggles post-Ferguson should make the guys on his teams feel very good lol.

He's been incredibly outspoken about how bad things have gotten at OT.

City and Liverpool have won the last 8 titles between the two of them. United last won theirs in 2012/13.

The Manchester United v Tottenham Europa League Final we're about to have is exactly what UEFA deserves.

Interesting take here. For all of the success the women had, Pia didn't win a World Cup with them. Emma Hayes is certainly off to a good start.

If anyone has a right to say anything, Arena would be the guy. Took the USMNT to two World Cups and he won three Gold Cups. Nobody else has won more than one.

Tough call here. I liked both the Pochettino and Hayes hires. We'll see how it goes.

I kinda checked out when he said you need to be domestic to know how important the USMNT is. I'm sorry but it isn't very important. People check in during the world cup. This isn't Europe/SA where the country lives and dies by how the team performs.

Put the best team you can on the field. Win some games. People like winners. I don't care where the coach is from.

The big difference here is the pay to play system which is not conducive to finding talent...ill use my boys as an example... I have twin 2008 year old boys, who have not been selected to ODP teams because of politics...some of their teammates have been and their parents have been shocked since my boys are the best players on the team...just because they were not the biggest kids.

Well, one son went to Poland last summer as part of a scouting trip showcasing our players and had interest, and my other son is going to Rome, Italy for his junior year of HS as part of a Serie A Elite program for soccer for exposure.

I didnt fall for the MLS Next crap where parents are paying close to $10K per kid so their kid can travel and play US competition. Our club is a small Polish club in Chicago with many connections in Europe, and we have sent teams to play in European tournaments.

Oh youth sports in general are screwed here in the US. Pay for play, richest kids, wealthy benefactors paying the way, MY KID MUST BE ON THE BEST TEAM OR ELSE, and more is why we do not have proper youth skill development in any sport, let alone soccer errrr football.

I think we probably do fine with individual sports like swimming, track, wrestling, etc. No amount of politics can cover up one kid being better than another. You can "buy" better coaching but good kids will get found.

But yeah team sports seem broken right now.

My daughter played club and college soccer. Son played basketball and soccer for awhile but is only playing football next year for his senior year. Football is by far the best. No club travel BS (you can do the 7v7 circuit). It’s definitely the best team sport out there, when it comes to time and money needed, IMO.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal’s hunt for trophies:

“Winning trophies is about being in the right moment, in the right place. Liverpool have won the title with less points than we had in the last two seasons. With the points from the last two season, we have two Premier Leagues.”
This guy is utterly cringe.

How do they blow the whistle at the end of that first extra?? Are the rules adjusted to where it’s a hard clock there? I totally expected the play to be finished
