This was such a weird game in the end. I really felt like Liverpool never got out of second gear and they had all that other stuff against them and they managed a draw. Still seems to me like Liverpool dropped points instead of taking points from Arsenal. Slots subs and second half tactics definitely impacted the team for the better but Arsenals subs and injury replacements did ok but ultimately seemed to just see the game out.
I hate to say it but Robertson looked well off the pace against Arsenals wide players. He is my favorite lunchpail kind of guy but he looked well off it in this game. Tsimikas did well coming in for him.
Arsenal were miles better from 20th minute to halftime. Liverpool flipped it in the second half, but a lot of that was Arsenal seemingly content with just holding onto that 2-1 rather than going for the kill. I think before the match Liverpool takes the point. At halftime you take the point. Once it was 2-2, with Garbiel and Timber having gone off, there was a sense they were vulnerable sure. In the end, they get a point where they dropped points last year. In the big picture that's critical.
Saka is very good, but Robertson was awful. Not just defending but on the ball going forward. As good as Saka is, Robertson just looked done in most of that game. He's played a shit load of football for club and country, turned 30 this year. Could be coming down to the end of it.
Arsenal can do so many different things tactically. It's going to be interesting to see how they do in this next run of games. If this is their floor with injuries and red cards, that's a good floor for October. Should be noted that this time last year, LFC had one more red card than Arsenal does now. They had two players sent off in one match. Plus the biggest VAR fuck up so far. IT's a long season of ups and downs. You have to handle the downs and keep going. City and Liverpool have shown this. Arsenal has to absorb the setbacks. That starts with the boss.
