Pathetic points dropped by Liverpool. Inexscusable.

Is that emotions talking? Palace aren't great, but idk about "inexcusable." They've been in pretty good form lately as "giant killers", and they aren't strangers to winning @ Liverpool either.

How bout that Classico??? What a game....

Not quite like Jordan's jumper over Russell to win the title in 98 because it was just a regular season Clasico, but surely that goal by Messi was kind of like Jordan's switch-hands layup vs. the Lakers. A top 10 highlight on Messi's reel at the end of his career. A defining moment in the career of the greatest soccer player of all time. I'll remember watching that goal live for as long as I live.

It's inexcusable. These are games Liverpool needs to win. Top 4 this year has the potential to be a club-changing deal with Klopp as manager.

Dejan Lovren is garbage. Liverpool was just being Liverpool. Shooting themselves in the foot and taking a kill shot from a former player.

Any chance Sakho had of coming back is gone now, too.

Messi, on the other hand, is pretty good.

Yes. IMO its inexscuable and typical of Liverpool since 2008. They have no problems playing well against open free flowing teams. They simply suck at playing teams who sit back in defense and then counter. They also suck at defending set pieces and cannot close out a season to save their lives. This still isnt sorted out since Rafa left. This loss made a Top 4 finish highly questionable as the Manchester's have two games in hand and are 1-3 points behind. Liverpool absolutely had to win that game and it was all in their favor. It was against a relegation level team at home on a sunday afternoon against a coach who was 0-14 at Anfield in his history.

They were in "danger" at one point early, but they're looking to be on pretty solid footing at this point.

Zaha, Benteke, Cabaye, and Puncheon have all been playing very well together lately, and when that happens, they are pretty dangerous. It also helps that they have avoided the total defensive meltdowns that plagued them earlier in the year (minus Southampton a few weeks ago).

However, that set piece goal from Benteke WAS an example of terrible defending. Nobody from Liverpool was even moving after the ball took its first hop. Good header, too, tho.

Well, at least Arsenal have a chance to win the FA Cup this year. So, we've got that going for us.

Here's a panorama I took at the FC Cincinnati vs Louisville City FC matchup this weekend (The River Cities Cup/The Dirty River Derby), in which FC Cincy's star player was sent off on a straight red in the 87th minute, and accused after the match of biting one of Louisville's players in the ensuing debates. #Suarez

Anyone who plays Palace has to mark one guy. One. Liverpool didn't do it.

So I'd say inexcusable is a fair assessment of that match yesterday. They have faltered against clubs from the lower half of the table for years now.

As a neutral, I will say they had significant injury absences yesterday;

Sturridge (always injured)
Lallana
Henderson
Mane
Klavan

Part of why Leicester won the title last year? They were fit for most of the season.

Liverpool had eight players under the age of 23 on their squad yesterday, one of them a 17 year old whose birthday was April 1st. They need Champions League football to attract top players. So far, Klopp's Matip, Wijnaldum and Mane signings have looked very good. Karius and Grujic need more time. Klavan is a depth defender. Not a bad signing in there, even with the jury being out on a few.

They should stay the course, but having CL would really help expedite the process along.

On a side note, Dele Alli gets away with a lot of crap because he's English. What he did Saturday has been red carded this season to players on top clubs. None of them English guys, though.

Ugh, just disgusted to watch that as a Liverpool fan yesterday. So frustrating to see the same scenario play out over and over: a lower quality team (maybe not that much lower quality in this case, considering all Liverpool's injury absences, but certainly a less expensive team) defends deep and, despite seeing less of the ball, beats Liverpool by hitting on a counterattack and on a set piece. Impossible to forgive LFC for not finding a solution to these tactics yet.

I do have sympathy for Klopp because of the selection headache all these injuries have caused, particularly to Lallana, Mane and Henderson, who have all been key when healthy, but I also fault him for not making a change earlier. The change he ultimately made, going to a back three with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Moreno as the wingbacks, was a good attacking change, but it needed to come earlier, as it was clear that LFC was not finding a way to unlock Palace's deep defending. Origi was offering nothing and should have come off after an hour. And Clyne has been exposed lately as a poor attacking fullback; opponents have learned to just leave him space to run into because he will ultimately just run out of ideas and give away a goal kick.

I disagree it was red card worthy. It wasn't your typical violent stomp. I'm a huge Chelsea supporter, and have been since I was a kid because of my family that lives in London. I watched it over a few times, and the step onto David Luiz ankle was accidental. At full speed in the game its hard to even tell what happened. It was an accidental step, and Dele was looking towards the sideline where the ball was. Even Frank Lampard said it was accidental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCQcp18kOco

He has a history of this kind of behavior, and if he would have been born anywhere else, the FA and the British football press would have much more of a problem with it.

Xhaka was red carded for this same type of thing earlier this season for Arsenal. He's from Switzerland, of course.

My Galaxy right now:

giphy.gif

Yeah that was a whoopin'

It was like they weren't even interested until the last 15 minutes, and even then, they were wayyyyy off target on several good looks.

And Seattle was doing a good job of keeping possession in the attacking third, even with a 3-goal lead.

That play was about as big of an accident as there can possibly be.

Alli was given a red card and 3 match ban this year against Gent and retrospective 3 match ban at the end of last year for punching a West Brom player. I wish he got with away with more because he's English but that doesn't seem to be reality.

Which Xhaka red card is comparable? I only remember his 2 footed tackle incident. Which is totally different IMO.

DeAndre Yedlin, Rafa and Newcastle clinched promotion today. Pumped for the Toon Army. Premier League wasn't the same without the Magpies.

Get those Shepherd Plaid's ready... English soccer is relevant again. Scotland's EPL team (for now) is back.
