Finally, maybe you don't realize it, but Italy and Spain have a very long and heated rivalry on the field. Spain has never beaten the Azzurri in regular time, I know that's a sore point with Spainish fans.

???? Not to get in the middle of this feud, but this statement is simply not factual. Spain beat Italy in regulation in both 2008 and 2000, and Italy has only won 1 of the last 7 matches outright against Spain (1 win, 3 losses - 1 in penalties, 3 draws) since 1998.

Perhaps you meant in European Championship play, which would be correct, but it is a pretty small sample size with only 4 previous matches (where Italy is 1 win in regulation, 1 loss in penalties, 2 draws) at the Euros

From what I have seen on ESPN, Spain requested they water the field more and was denied. Yes they both played on the same field but Spain moves the ball w/ short passes 10x mores than any other team so they do have the right to complain IMO

I have only watched a little bit of teams outside the EPL, and my question is, has the French Ligue 1 fallen really far or was it just never that good. I feel like you have the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, maybe even the Eredivisie that are better than Ligue 1. I always thought teams like Paris St. Germain and Bordeaux being pretty solid throughout Europe but you rarely hear about it anymore

The French league is miles and miles (and add some more kilometers) better than the Eredivisie. The Dutch league is really poor these days.

The French league has a lot of parity right now, so they don't have a team that is challenging regularly in the Champions League. However, you missed a large part of Lyon's dominance. They won seven straight titles, but they were always selling so many of their stars (and Juninho finally left) that they couldn't sustain it forever. Lille has been a very strong side (2011 champs, 2012 runners-up) but they have also had to sell their better players.

Ligue 1 is easily in the top 5, though right now it is firmly in that fifth position with the Bundesliga gaining steam with the re-emergence of BvB and some of the cash injected into certain clubs.

As for England, Hodgson put them in a horrible position with his squad choices (Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott and Downing for the wings... rubbish). They also have nothing going forward without Rooney. And Steven Gerrard continues to be one of the most overrated players of his generation (come on Liverpool fans, let's be 'avin yaaaa!!!).
