I understand ballotelli rubs some people the wrong way but I love how he plays. Him and cassano are going to tear it up the rest the way

Apparently Oxlade-Chamberlain is starting on the left for England today against France, with Welbeck up top. Not too much surprise with Welbeck, but the Ox starting over Downing could be considered a surprise. One journalist called it a gamble. I call it an upgrade. Downing's crap.

What in the H3LL is Giuseppe Rossi doing on American ESPN's halftime coverage of the Italy Spain match??? With Alexi Lalas of all people? Think ESPN has any idea?

REPS!!

Seriously, what the hell were they thinking? Was ESPN trying to get me to throw sh*t at the television? It worked.

This is unrelated to the tournament, but I have a question for those that have been following European soccer for a while now. I am only 18 so I have only watched the EPL for 3-4 years and have supported Manchester City during that time. I have only watched a little bit of teams outside the EPL, and my question is, has the French Ligue 1 fallen really far or was it just never that good. I feel like you have the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, maybe even the Eredivisie that are better than Ligue 1. I always thought teams like Paris St. Germain and Bordeaux being pretty solid throughout Europe but you rarely hear about it anymore

What did they say that was incorrect? The field sucked, for both teams. Spain's coach said as much. They weren't making excuses, they were speaking the truth. You ever play on a sh!tty field? I have, and I complain about it afterwards.

You're anti-Spain bias is clouding you bro!

Italy's Pirlo made the statement that the pitch was the same for both teams, NOT Spain or Fabergas, who just happened to open his BIG mouth, as he usually does.

Spain are a bunch of cry babies, always have been and thankfully, their reign is coming to an end!

Also, you're right, I am ultra "anti-spain".........**** them!

France's domestic league isn't that bad, they have produced some great players (Platini, Zidane, Henry, etc.). The problem is the league doesn't have tons of cash to splash around because of the tax codes in France, players too. Thus, they sell their star players early, often and for a hefty price.

One would have to say that France ruled world football for a good 10 year span, collecting a European Cup and WC in the process.

Just saying, it's not like the Italians aren't up there with them, diving all over the place and whining to their mothers in WC 2010 and Euro 2008. Spain and Italy both dive, and it's no secret. Two most common countries where it happens.

Di Natale should start with Cassano for Italy. Balotelli didn't do much, and Di Natale created more scoring chances. Balotelli squandered his. Torres was crap.

Pitch is the same for both sides. It hurts the Spanish style more, but it's Spain's choice to play that style. Italy's formation was smart, but Spain's was incredibly bizarre. 4-6-...0?

Simulation is a world wide problem, even the Premiership has problems due to their influx of foreign players.

You clearly site the past.............I can openly admit, that Italy where the kings of diving but it's clear that Spain has taken that mantle and to new heights. I believe only Cassano made a meal of a weak challenge that went for Italy. Thank God for Prandelli and his new philosophy of honesty and attacking football. Italy for the first time in a long time, played really good, attacking and fluid football at a major tournament.

Classy post.

First off, the irony in that post is just phenomenal. Well done.

2nd - are you still mad about 2008? 2010? Let it go bro...the best team in the world won. Accept it like a man. Those were phenomenal achievements for our perenially (sp) underachieving teams, and you're acting like they stile your bike or something.

3rd - I know what I read, so I'll put it here for you to read AGAIN. Here is what our coach said:

"It is a pity," he said, "to play on a dry pitch. For us, for Italy and for the fans. I am sure we would have seen a better game if the pitch had not been so dry."

Where is the excuse in that statement??? Do better next time.

4th- Shouldn't you be working on your next match to fix?

Irony?????? Thanks for playing! Even Ian Darke and Steve McManaman said they SAW (with their own eyes) the pitch being heavily watered down hours before the match took place, they didn't tunr the sprinklers on just before the match started. Typical Spain, they complain about everything. Frankly I don't care what Del Bosque said, the fact that they brought up the playing surface and complained that it was dry is pitiful! Fact remains.......Italy's players and staff made NO comments about the pitch, only Pirlo sited it was the same for both teams.

I made no mentions of 2008 and 2010, none what so ever. I posted form the get go of this thread that Spain are the clear favorites. Speaking of class........nice match fixing jab, something which has not been proven at all, not even in 2006. You grasp at straws.

Spain will NEVER acheive what Italy has in world Football, only Brazil has done better. Go back to the midget factory they call La Liga!

The next thing I'll have to hear is the Italians paid off the field crew to make the pitch unplayable or unfavorable for Spain's style of play.

You tell me? Is this not an excuse?

Spain v Italy: Cesc Fabregas blames the state of the pitch for Spain's failure to beat Italy in their opening game - Telegraph

“The pitch is a disaster,” said Fabregas. “It’s lamentable to play on a pitch like that. We deserved a lot more. It’s lamentable that we still have to play on pitches like that.

“The fact they didn’t water the pitch compromised us and our dynamic and fluid passing game,” said Xavi, who could not get the better of opposite number, Andrea Pirlo, for long periods. Although it rained heavily in Gdansk on Saturday afternoon, Iniesta added: “To see the pitch in this condition was a disaster. It was super dry and that makes passing the ball difficult.”

Sure sounds like an excuse to me.:whoknows:

Spain should be complaining about a 6-man midfield. They look in serious trouble without Puyol and a viable striker....

Sure sounds like an excuse to me.:whoknows:

1. Yes, irony. It's COMPLETELY lost on you. You talk all this crap about Spain and their diving, when the Italians are NOTORIOUS for being huge floppers, divers, whiners, etc. So suddenly you have a coach that doesn't encourage it, and you're acting all self-righteous about it??? GTOH with that crap. Spain is NO different that Italy in that regard. Sh!t, you ever seen the Chileans or the Mexicans play? Or the Eastern European countries? They put Spain to shame. But because you have a blind hatred for Spain (which is beyond immature - it's one thing to dislike a team or a country but what you've been spouting in this thread makes no sense to me as a fellow human being and a fellow Irish fan, but i digress) has you thinking that Spain is the worst. They're not. They're bad, no doubt it and it's embarrassing the way Iniesta goes down, but that's a soccer problem, not just a Spain problem. My American buddies watch soccer and laugh at all the diving, and guess what - they ain't talking about Spain.

2. Sorry to contradict what YOU said in the article that YOU brought up, but that is what the Spanish coach said. Don't get mad b/c you missed it and said he never said it.

3. The match-fixing jab (LOL at you trying to defend it - sure it never happened bro) was a playful response to your classless posts regarding Spain in this entire thread. Seriously...read what have written. This isn't a trash-talking site where we allow trolls on here ripping ND and everyone gets into a heated argument where no one will win - we ask them to go to Scout or ESPN for that.

Same thing here. You're not going to be allowed to talk sh!t the way you have been. It's one thing to discuss the games and say why you can't stand the Spanish team, but quite another to call Spaniards midgets and cry babies and tell the m to **** off and whatever other crap you're spewing. Take that sh!t to ESPN or something. Right here, we're all Irish fans. I'm half-Spanish, and I take offense to all the crap you've been talking. I won't talk crap about Italians (and I shouldn't have even said the match-fixing thing, which was tongue-in-cheek but I still shouldn't have responded in kind), and you shouldn't be talking crap about people from other countries.

Now, if you don't like that, you don't have to post on this thread anymore; you can spew your hate on an ESPN board or something. But right here...we're gonna watch the (2nd) greatest tournament in the world, we're gonna discuss it and maybe razz each other about it, but we're gonna leave the immature hate and ****-talking out of it, because we're Irish fans and we're not going to get into if over a different sport. Thanks and good luck the rest of the way...

LMFAO.........you're the one who's mad. Every single post made regarding the Spainish comments (besides mine) has been in defense of what I was saying and how Spain complains.

You're very good at making stuff up, I haven't talked trash one bit.

Finally, maybe you don't realize it, but Italy and Spain have a very long and heated rivalry on the field. Spain has never beaten the Azzurri in regular time, I know that's a sore point with Spainish fans.

Spainish fan/mod who wants to use his authority and accuse me of trahs talking.......GTFO!

LOL... are you serious? Here you go:

Go back to the midget factory they call La Liga!

Also, you're right, I am ultra "anti-spain".........**** them!

WTF? And this is only looking at this page.

Yeah, I kinda knew that...I've spent plenty of time in Spain, but thanks for the history lesson. But see, I could honestly give a f*ck. It ain't a sore point with me, as you can see by the fact that I haven't ripped on the Italians at all other than the match-fixing crack aimed at you. I'm mature enough to see past all that bullsh!t and enjoy the beautiful game for what it is, and I'm not going to fight another Irish fan over it.

Spainish fan/mod who wants to use his authority and accuse me of trahs talking.......GTFO!

It's not an accusation...it's the truth. It has nothing to do with showing my authority...I do the exact same thing with trolls and there's no complaints. From the admin, this is not a trash-talking site. You want to talk trash, that's fine (I love a good trash-talking session)...but it's just not going to happen here.

Imagine we were at a bar watching ND kick the crap out of Michigan. We'd be having a great time, drinking and enjoying the game. If Spain-Italy played right afterwards, would you suddenly turn into an a**hole and start taunting and talking out of your a** (i.e. you com, plaining that the Spaniards dive when everyone knows and even YOU admit that the Italians are notorious for diving) and wanting to basically fight the guy that just an hour before you were beer buddies with???

See, this site is about being at a bar, talking with your friends. When you start being an a**, you gots to go. I'm not going to fight with you anymore over this - it's not about being mad that you're talking sh!t about Spaniards (I let it go for a while, believe me); I'd be doing the same if you were going overboard over the French (whom I can't stand), Mexico, Ghana, it doesn't matter. Chill the hell out, that's all I'm saying...

From what I have seen on ESPN, Spain requested they water the field more and was denied. Yes they both played on the same field but Spain moves the ball w/ short passes 10x mores than any other team so they do have the right to complain IMO
