They used 49 if a team finished unranked. I don't know how they came up with it.

So a team that started out around say 16th or so, but finished just outside of the Top 25, would have a worse number than a team that started out somewhere between 20-25, but only won 2 games? Yeah, I'm buying into that. Some of these "writers" have too much time on their hands, and too little grasp of "proving" their own arguments before submitting them.

In other news.... ESPN dropped Gunner to #52 behind their precious UA All-American game QBs. Pathetic.

Well they are kind of are right. I'd say 8-5 after starting the preseason ranked and people talking BCS bowl means they were overrated.

If we'd beaten Florida State, we would've finished 9-4 and been right around where we were in the preseason Top 25.

Bad pub is better than no pub. The day ESPN or any other national media outlet stops talking about nd good or bad is when it gets dark in south bend. My biggest fear about us joining a football conference. We have to be National>

I called and cancelled my ESPN Insider this morning. The very nice call represenitive asked why I was cancelling and to his credit I could hear him typing feverishly as I listed my reasoning. He thanked me and told me that most people do not give them good feedback.

My logged complaints? In a nut-shell:

1) Information is reported a day, sometimes more, later than other services.

2) ESPNU 150 rankings came out and once again they are the statistical outlier among all the major services.

I told him while I don't care much for scout and do not subscribe to rivals, that 247 was just killing them in both #1 and #2. Also, mentioned that ESPN's bias for it's UA AA participants in their ranking contributed to #2.

Signed off with I could not justify to myself any reason to financially support them for the aforementioned.

Murphy mentioned in the article that 48 teams received votes in the AP Preseason Poll. #49 would have been "outside" the presesason poll. But the AP Final Poll only gave points to 34 teams. Everyone outside of the Final Polll could be considered #35.

Murphy also could have used his own company's Poll. CBSsports had ND #28 in their Final Poll.

FWIW, I don't even go to ESPN's website anymore. Plenty of others to choose from. In fact, I rarely watch any of the ESPN channels anymore. If they are showing a game I don't want to miss, obviously I don't have a choice. Other than that, it's a waste of time. Obviously they are incredibly biased and, like many media outlets, support their own agenda instead of just reporting facts.

With you 100% on this Bubba. Games are the only reason I tune in to ESPN these days. Gameday at the Big House this year with Desmond Howard's kids was enough to make me vomit.

To the bolded section: Unfortunately they aren't great at reporting facts. I see that you're also a Dolphins fan...remember last year when Schefter and Mort broke the Harbaugh to the Fins story? Idiots.

How about the Bernie Fine reporting dissaster? Whitlock had another great article on has this story was mishandled.

HOW THE HELL IS NOTRE DAME NOT ON THIS LIST?! I'M REALLY GETTING TIRED OF THIS BS!

Auburn, Stanford, Clemson among out-of-state recruiting leaders - CFB - ESPN

Edit:My apologies ESPN didn't include Notre Dame on the list, because there is no talent in Indiana
Note: You'll notice that teams like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who signed 34 of 36 ESPNU 150 recruits from outside Indiana, and the Oregon Ducks, who signed 11 of 12 from out of state, are missing. But those schools didn't have much choice but to look elsewhere: just nine ESPNU 150 recruits resided in Indiana during the time frame and only three in Oregon

Please note that I didn't intentionally go to ESPN.com. When this title popped up in a google search I couldn't resist seeing what trash they were spewing now:

Irish among recruiting underachievers - Notre Dame Football Blog - ESPN

Here's the take if you don't want to count as a hit for the site:

Irish among recruiting underachievers
January, 25, 2012
Jan 25 3:00PM ET
By Matt Fortuna

Football Outsiders' Brian Fremeau has Notre Dame as one of five recruiting underachievers over the last few years, a distinction that should not shock many.

Fremeau looked at the last five seasons to see how often teams with lower-rated recruiting classes beat teams with stronger recruiting success, and vice versa. Teams with better classes won 67 percent of the games.

The Irish, however, have lost 25 games as the "more talented" team.

Like Michigan and UCLA, inconsistency through head coaching transitions has been part of the problem in South Bend. Kelly and his staff landed a number of gems last season that provided an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball, an area of strength going forward.

But there are many more holes to plug in order for the Irish to live up to its total recruiting profile potential. Gunner Kiel joins an already crowded spring quarterback battle, the outcome of which will ultimately determine Brian Kelly's fate in South Bend.

Kelly's success at Cincinnati in out-performing recruiting expectations hasn't materialized at Notre Dame yet, and the losses to inferior opponents like Navy and South Florida have exhausted the limited patience of some fans already. A challenging schedule in 2012 will stretch that patience even thinner, so it will be absolutely critical for Kelly to win the games the recruiting numbers insist he should win.

Michigan, UCLA, Miami and Florida State join Notre Dame as underachievers.

Brian Kelly's last school, Cincinnati, is among the overachievers, which include Stanford, Boise State, Baylor and Oregon State.

I only watch these fools because they got the games-mainly their commentary is irrelavant and its turned into a sideshow. They are bad except for the fact that they have the games. All their good pros have left.
