Because they were impressed with Brian's Red Zone record?

The majority of Brian Kelly's record has been dealing with marginal talent and getting the most out of it. ND has the most talent of any teams he's coaches but they play a tough schedule year in year out.

He's never coached a team with the talent and problems of the USC prima donnas or OSU and looked the other way. Holtz dealt with a couple of prima donnas at ND but when he got to the NFL he was overwhelmed. He said at his Jets exit PC, "I just don't know how to motivate millionaires." It a principal reason why college coaches fail in the NFL and return to college ball.

Exactly. NFL head coach is a very different job than college head coach. Hope Brian Kelly is wise enough to know which suits him.

Highly doubt the Birds go after Brian Kelly or any college coach after the Chip debacle. I'm also not so sure Chip will get a look from another NFL team.

I like Chip (Even after being against letting Andy go) and honestly thought he was one of the better coaches in the NFL. But his ego undid him. The whole "my system will work no matter who I plug into it" was a total failure. After inheriting an offense that was perfect for his system (minus an elite qb) he decided to tear it apart while also ignoring the wholes we already had.

But most of all what pissed me off and I new would be part of his downfall was his "steve spurrier syndrome", in that he tried to bring all of the players he coached in college to his NFL team. Josh huff and Kenjon Barner added nothing to this team. Trading for Kiko when we already had a logjam at the position. taylor Hart and Brandon Bair shouldn't even be on the team for depth purposes.

So ultimately, even though I still think he can turn it around and be successful here, the failures he made are enough that deserved what he got.

I wanna die. Fucking media forced him out. The majority of people don't want him out. If we hire BK I'll be pissed I don't think he will be a great NFL coach. BK interviewing could screw up recruiting too.

I don't think BK jumps for the Eagles anymore. I think it would need to be either the Giants or the Pats to get him interested at this point.

You wanna die? I don't quite understand. So you are saying the majority of people in Philly and other Eagles fans want to keep Chip as the coach?

If that is true then yes, the media did force him out. Because that is certainly not the sense I get.

Media's pretty hard on philly now a days. More than the usual. With the 6ers and the process and Kelly and his system a lot of mocking being thrown our way. I feel like most fans I know would prefer Chip for another year at least. I don't wanna be one of those franchises (Browns, Bills) who changes coaches every few years never finding consistent success. I really feel like we just fired back to back good coaches, what are the chances of hiring 3 straight competent coaches?

Not to pile on my fellow ND brothers that are Philly fans but he brought it on himself. He dismantled a 10 win team and put that garbage on the field. I'd be fcking pissed if I was a philly fan, not that he was fired but that he set the team back as much as he did.

Letting him make the personnel decisions was giving him the rope to hang himself. A lot of good coaches were bad at that (Parcells being Exhibit A) and the Eagles should have known better from the outset.

Ok, I understand better...that is an interesting way to think of it. And to your point, the media should be tough in Philly these days...

He could have certainly been given at least one more year IMO, so firing him now must mean they have someone pretty promising lined up?!? Or he just really pissed that many people off? I mean they could have at least waited a few more days and finished the season.

Get out of my head, Lucky! LOL Precisely how I feel about it. I was ready to fire his ass when he traded away McCoy, let Macklin go, brought in a has been quarterback and refused to draft a QB to run "his" offense.

I'd rather stick with Brian. He has done as much if not more in CFB than Chip.

Wouldn't be a bad trade but I would like to stick with the Kelly we have.

On a side note I know we have the personnel to run his offense. If he could find a great defensive coordinator he could rule college football because offense has never been his problem.

Oh I completely agree. I wouldn't get rid of Brian Kelly for anyone right now. I was just throwing out a discussion topic.

I don't see BK going to any nfl team that does not have stability at the qb position.

Of course $$ talks

I think Chip to ND would be a great conversation point and that would be the person I would like to hire ONLY if he brought a great DC with him.

My hot take on Chip, good coach, not a good GM. If he goes to another NFL team and is willing to work with a GM he'll be successful.

My personal opinion is that Chip set himself up for failure. There was a lot of talk that he needed to implement his offense, etc. He brought in a lot of fire power on the offensive side in Bradford, Murray, Aghalor, etc. However, he forgot that success starts on the lines. He has some talent on the defensive side of the ball (though they were not consistent except Cox). However, he has little on the offensive side minus Peters and even he had his butt handed to him at times this season. Also, Chip did not draft a single offensive lineman this year! The bottom line is that Chip is not going to have success in the NFL until he understands this concept and gets an O line that can protect the QB and create running lanes.

His teams could always fly in college especially against smaller competition. But then they would get manhandled by stronger teams. In the NFL it's all strong teams.

I can't find the thread with the list of coaching vacancies. What are the best college jobs available?

Edit: I found the thread. Is Ball State really the only FBS opening left?
