Diaco to Interview for HC Jobs

There's got to be something we're missing here. BC is a sh!tty HC job: pro-town, Boston is far removed from anything resembling a recruiting hotbed, BC's current team is a dumpster fire, etc.

Diaco could do exactly what Muschamp did. Stick around for a few years, win a title or two, and wait for the big offer to come. Why would he toss that away for BC?

I hope it's just leverage for more money.

They should pay him today to ensure three years of service.

From an agent's standpoint the philosophy is hit when the iron's hot. Right now it is unfortunately. I don't like it but I see the thinking. Take the job now so in case a defensive debacle occurs like what happened to Georgia (300+ yards rushing) you can't be blamed for it.

I don't like it any more than you guys and pray that I am wrong but I just don't have a good feeling about this.

That brings up another point I have been thinking about.

Consider this - If BC wants Diaco NOW before the NC, in essence they are asking him to sacrafice a huge career-defining moment in order to get started working for them. So not only would he lose the enjoyment of competing for a NC with the players he is I'm sure very close to, he would miss the ultimate opportunity for a college coach that he may never see again, all at BC's request. I would like to think that a potential employer who really wants a candidate would be willing to not force him into that situation. if your prospective employer starts out on that note, what can you only logically expect for your future treatment?

possible DC for diaco i guess....but would really like for him to remain

Um, isn't Cooks co-DC at Notre Dame right now? If Diaco leaves, Cooks becomes our sole DC. Why would he make a lateral move to BC?

I think everyone should take a deep breath. All we are hearing are media reports and we know Diaco interviewed with Cal and BC. He's a top coordinator, he's going to take interviews. Don't go from that to all of our coaches are jumping ship.

BC doesn't give a rats a** that Diaco would miss the NCG. Their priority is getting a coach on board that can start the process of building a respectable program. The longer it takes to get a staff in place, the more their recruiting suffers, etc. If he wants the job bad enough, he'll take it regardless of when he needs to start. He knows the sooner he gets started, the better it is for the program. Mrs. Diaco didnt raise a fool.

Relax, guy!

The situation is yet to play out, so don't freak out yet. Besides, I heard ND has a pretty good head coach too who just might be able to turn this train wreck of a program around, just give him a few years.

Cooks leaving? That literally makes negative sense.

The only headcoaching gig he could get with be some mac-level school... By becoming the D-Coordinator he's actually setting himself up for a quicker launch to a nice job in the future...

PS: I'm cool with Bobby Elliot being our DC.

Even if he takes the job, it's no given that he skips the NCG.

Other assistants have taken major jobs during this time, but also coached through the title game. I believe Bo Pelini did that while at LSU.

Chances coach D takes BC? 50%. Chances he stays through NC game if he takes the job? At least 50%.

75% chance he's here for the big game. I know it's not as simple as this, but just trying to drop some insight.

At least a dumpster fire can help warm a heart on a cold night... I'm not sure what this is, but it's definitely not heart-warming.

Exactly - walking away from the NC isn't just a little foolish?

Leaving before the NC Game would be insane.
BC isn't going to the ACC Championship, much less the BCS Championship, any time soon. This is a career defining opportunity.

If he is on the brink of accepting, Ishaq should show up at his doorstep at 4am and tell him not to go.

More than that... Get the entire team outside his house on a candlelight vigil. Get the werewolf to howl. Get Freddy K. to drop by with a BC nightmare. Something! :)

If he takes the job, I'll bet 5 million vbucks (which is all I have) that he stays through the NC game. He's an emotional guy and he loves this team. He won't leave them stranded. Anyone for the bet?

I hope the only thing that comes out of this interview is Swarbrick recognizing that he has one of the best defensive coordinators in the country and opening up the checkbook to lock him down long term.

As Lax pointed out earlier in this thread, even the best paid assistants typically don't make HC money. I doubt Swarbrick will let money be the deciding factor here, but that doesn't seem to be Diaco's primary motivation anyway.

Agreed. If he wants to be a head coach, there's not much we can do to keep him.

I was talking more about diaco's agent. BC wouldn't care unless he loses badly on the defensive side then the offer may be pulled. I really don't want this to happen, just saying. I believe he is a big reason for why ND is where they are today.

Isn't Diaco building a house in South Bend? That can be dealt with but the decision to build it has to mean some intent on being there more than a few months. He had to know he would be getting some calls as the season progressed.

Maybe I'm just grasping......
