Or.... June Jones is just lying to him by telling him he sees him as a RB to get him on campus, only to eventually switch him to LB anyway. We are talking about June Jones, after all.

Perkins could end up being a fantastic back.

Sour grapes boys: Let's let the young guy go.

May he have good luck with SMU.

In fact, let's hope the Pony Express picks back up.

It'd be great to whoop'em in a big bowl game someday...

Is Elite 11 really that prestigious though considering Gunner didn't make the cut, but Purdue's Appleby did?

Elite 11 is run by ESPN (I think, at least sponsored or something). That's why he is highly rated on ESPN and pretty much only ESPN.

Perkins isn't coming to ND. The reason doesn't really matter. I hope he has made a good choice for his own future. As far as ND goes, we will be here no matter who commits and who doesn't commit. We are ND. We aren't for everybody. We are for those willing to work to be the best.

We are not a football factory for the NFL, although there are plenty of ND alumni on the rosters of NFL teams.

We help develop leaders and men and women who do things the right way. Perkins has chosen a different course. But for those who have a combination of academic and athletic swagger, ND is one of a handful of schools that can deliver on both counts.

You want to be a football player, you can go to any one of a number of colleges. You want to be a football player and a solid citizen or leader, you have fewer choices. ND offers it all, but it takes commitment and hard work to get the benefits.

I hate this SMU to the Big East business... it would be so much fun if they just joined the Big 12.

Haven't we learn anything from last year guys? He's gone, let it go. He might come back. If he does great, otherwise good luck wherever he goes. The end.

Eddy I appreciate your enthusiasm and loyalty to ND, but to insinuate that someone can't be a leader or a solid citizen at ANY school is stupid and a big reason why ND fans get a bad rap as having a holier-than-thou attitude. Hope Perkins does well and becomes a leader and a solid citizen wherever he winds up.

Exactly. Total rubbish.

Why anyone would not want someone, doesn't matter who or from where, to be successful is beyond me.

I agree but with one caveat, if he is playing against Notre Dame I hope he has a bad game, but otherwise I wish the best for him.

Completely agree. I wish Denard Robinson all the success in the world and hope he winds up making millions in the NFL but when he plays at ND next season, I hope he fails miserably.

David ran REALLY hard tonight. He didnt go down on first or second contact and he kept his legs moving. Some runs turned out to be 15 yard gains when they should've only been a 3 yard gain

Basically said a return to ND is probably not gonna happen. Oregon likes him at LB and LSU likes him at RB. Also wants to hear more from Cal and UGA.

The Cal and UGA guys must have been working on him when they were up here.

Scout.com Midwest regional manager Allen Trieu answered a couple questions regarding Perkins in an article dated Nov 24th.
Columnists | Urban Meyer factor could affect Michigan, Michigan State recruiting efforts | The Detroit News

Sam Webb: Speaking of Notre Dame, four-star South Bend (Ind.) athlete David Perkins rescinded his commitment from the Irish a little bit ago. The talk is that Michigan State is showing interest and that could get one of his official visits. Have the Spartans gained any traction in his recruitment?

Allen Trieu: Yes. They came down. They went to his game and showed that they are interested in him strongly at this point. I think they will be one of the schools that gets an official from him. They are going to have to battle with LSU and Oregon and I think Syracuse and potentially one other school like a Pittsburgh or a Missouri for his services, but I think Michigan State is very much in the picture. I'd still consider LSU and Oregon on top, but I think the Spartans do have a shot there.

Sam Webb: Perkins is an interesting player. At 6-2, 210, he has prototypical linebacker size and speed, but he can run the ball also. What position does he project to on the next level?

Allen Trieu: I think it depends on the school. For the majority of schools, I think he's an outside linebacker. I think, more and more, he's shown that in the right system he could be a tailback. That said, we have him ranked as an outside linebacker, and that's because I think his highest ceiling, in terms of making a college impact and potentially going on to the next level beyond that, is at linebacker.

Now, in a power offense like Syracuse, he's a running back. At Michigan State, the potential is there for him to be a running back, but when you look at what Michigan State has coming in already, they already have a running back commit in this class. I think they, along with most schools, will recruit him as a linebacker. He's a fast, attacking style of linebacker — similar in style to a Denicos Allen — who's great on the blitz and that's what I see Perkins doing best in college.

so was it grades or what?

He claims it wasn't grades. Maybe he just wanted to go to LSU and Oregon. Given the last 20 or so years ND has had, I wouldn't say that's too crazy.

BGI_JasonSapp Former #NotreDame commit David perkins tells me that he hasn't received a visit from nor will he be hosting an in-home with an Irish assistant.

I thought there was an outside chance but since this is happening there is none.
