I wouldn't count Oregon State out so easily. Their 3rd string QB was the starter most the year last year when they won 10 games! The backup RB Fennwick is solid but was stuck behind a perennial Walker trophy candidate in Martinez. The coach is the same DC that turned this team around 2 years ago. This is the match up I've been fearing for two years and I have been banned once or twice just for pointing out these obvious facts about the Beavers depth and versatility. I just looked it up and they are 2-0 against us in bowl games (ouch). Our elitist mentality may bite us in the ass and with all that PAC-2 $$ they may just become the next elite Independent Powerhouse.

It pushed the ACC eligible teams down. FSU gets the NYE6 bowl now, which leaves Clemson NCST and ND* in a bunch of the better.

If you take the logic, like it used to be, that the later the bowl the better its prestige, then ND is the last ACC bowl game before FSU.

If you take name sake, the gator bowl is prob the one most are knowledgeable of. Clemson took that spot and can't really argue it since they beat us. The other is the Pop tart/camping/champs bowl. That game has the 19th and 25th ranked teams in it. That doesn't sound they had priority pick. We beat NCST so it would make sense that we are placed ahead of them.

If we're talking about LSU and the reliaquest bowl, that is a SEC and Big 10 tie in bowl. I believe no team outside those conferences have played in that game since easily 2010, prob longer. To go outside that and reach an at large team a conference has to be out of bowl eligible teams. Since FSU is not in the Big this doesn't effect it. There's still Maryland and Rutgers behind Wisconsin.

If we're looking at the comments and reactions of the bowl commissioner, I'm thinking they did not expect to have this have of a draw rather than ND dropping like we're thinking. This part is purely guess, I don't have any idea on how these things are chosen.
Also apparently the Pinstripe Bowl passed on us because we play Army next year at Yankee Stadium.

Seriously, our defense has been the most dangerous thing about this team all season. If you are fortunate and if the bowl game is to be evenly matched, we need one of our starting CBs (Hart), our starting interior DL (Cross, Mills), our DE (JJB) and at least JD Bertrand to announce they won't play.

Then I think we'd have a much better matched game. As it stands, unless OSU can rely on miraculous plays and multiple ND turnovers, I don't see how this game stays close. This isn't ND fans being smug. We were pretty amped to play LSU, two very different teams with one led by offense and one by defense but this game feels very different given how many guys you have leaving.

Our pass defense finished ranked 1st in the country. If your 3rd string QB is legit, he'll get a hell of a test on the 27th to prove it.

What the hell happened?? I thought we were playing LSU in Florida

FSU getting snubbed fucked us apparently.
Actually, it was Bama unexpectedly beating UG that knocked ND/ACC out of contention for the Reliaquest Bowl. If UG had won, we were pretty much guaranteed that bowl, but when Bama won that somehow knocked ND/ACC out of contention and that spot went to a B1G team (UW). I don't know the specific details of why it reverted to a B1G school only that it did. And then when FSU got snubbed from the playoffs, that somehow removed us from contention for the Pop Tarts and put us in a weird pool of bowls that included the Sun Bowl.

Regardless, if it weren't for the Bama upset we'd be in the Reliaquest Bowl.

Sun Bowl director said they werent sure if they wanted to enter a chance for ND but ultimately decided they would. We ended up in the Sun Bowl by the draw of a hat - Literally.

And apparently the ACC/ND representatives in the Sun, Pinstripe and Mayo Bowls were actually determined by drawing names from a hat? Eric Hansen wrote that today.

What a time to be alive and care about college football.

Anybody else hoping for a complete offensive shit show from ND so Freeman might just reconsider the OC situation? I'd trade one completely useless game for an entire season.

It was called Clemson. I've given up hope for getting a new OC this off-season.

I’m surprised they aren’t in the CFP then?

0-2 against them. Cool.
Bama is 0-1 vs a HS, seriously.

ND could get shutout and Porker would still be the OC next year. Freeman isn't getting rid of his buddy, at least not yet.
Others likely have but I didn’t see this quote until last night.

“I think back to my first year as a coordinator, and we had a great staff,” Freeman said. “I think we finished, when I was at Cincinnati (97th) in the country. Thank God Coach Fickell didn't make a change, and that gave me and the staff the ability to work through some of the deficiencies that we had and were able to improve.”

He was never moving on from Parker.

That’s only partly true.
They drew to see who got ND.
Everyone wanted ND, so they had to make it fare.

Not sure what this means, exactly, but they (Freeman and Hartman) had definitely given the impression that he planned to play in the bowl game.

Freeman's response doesn't say anything. He just knows better than to get into the player by player rundown. If he answers about Hartman, then he gets asked about Alt, Audric, Watts, etc. I would have liked if he just went the Stanley Hudson route and said "did I stutter" but he's got more patience than I do.
