Love had nothing to do with ND scoring 3 whole pts all game.

I don't know about that. ND did not look bad offensively in the 1st quarter. It really seemed like that real quick score took some of the wind out of them. And after that, they were playing from behind against a team who does not give up many points. Book did not respond well to adversity but I think this game taught him a lot.

ND ain't deep enough to lock horns with a those teams if key players go out.

No they aren't. They had the horses in their starting lineup but their 2nd string cannot match up with teams like that. If no one got hurt, I think we take it into the 4th with a shot. But that didn't happen and it just proves we need to recruit just a little better and prepare the backups throughout the season

Obviously when he went down it was defining moment, in-game without a healthy Vaughn. But saying that defense depended on him, not so sure I agree with that. I think circumstances mattered quite a bit there. We also gave up a TD with a noticeably injured Gilman as well.

This. Losing Love for the rest of the 2nd half was a huge loss, but it was one of many key losses in that 2nd half that allowed Clemson to take advantage with their 20 point run.

- Love going down
- Okwara and Kareem missed portions of the 2nd quarter.
- Gilman playing injured and then having to leave the game for a portion of the 2nd quarter.
- Vaughn being the backup option to Love and playing with a bum shoulder, against arguably the best receiving corp in the country.

Those injuries likely don't result in ND winning, but it turns what ended up being a blowout into a low-scoring affair. Instead of 30-3, we're probably looking at something like 16-3 or 23-10. More respectable.

I will say that those losses weren't the reason ND lost, but it was the reason they were blown out. Alabama was flat out demolished and injuries didn't contribute to that.

I'm with you. Hell...the bad officiating at a couple key spots killed too. That game should have been a 7-10 point game in my opinion had the officiating done right and had things gone a bit better.

We need some transcendent talent to cover for bad breaks.

I watched the 1st and 2nd quarter and I couldn’t believe how bad the officials were. Blown replays, missed holds on Clemson’s first TD drive. We also unfortunately had some drive killing drops by Boykin and Claypool. Even Book had some missed throws. For whatever reason we just didn’t execute like we had all season.

They deserved to win no doubt but yes that game was flipped on its head on a couple really bad calls and Clemson pulling off two incredible TD pass/catches that most teams aren’t able to pull off once all year. Yeah the game should have been a 10-14 point, hard fought game,... instead a couple bad calls and those two incredible plays made the score look way, way worse than the game actually was.

Because they were by far the best team we had seen all year,... teams like that do that to your execution.

We were never going to win this game with the offense performing as poorly as they did. The defense was championship caliber, but a mediocre OL and a solid but unspectacular QB will never beat a Clemson or Bama.

Agreed, I don’t think anyone is saying beat them tho, just that this wasn’t the men versus boys beat down 2012 was... the score just didn’t tell the story here.
