Alright so where’s the dang tailgate? Let’s party

I’ll probably start the day at Mitch’s Corner and move over to campus around 3 or so

I have reserved parking at Saint Mary's which is elite from a "get back on the highway quickly" perspective but horrible from a "being able to host a fun tailgate" perspective.

Any recommendations for parking? Don't mind walking just need a safe place to leave a car for the day.

Astonishing. Old Dominion, Kennesaw State, and Indiana State to open the season.
Well, at least they have to play more than just one team next year. Oregon, P$U, and even Iowa ON THE ROAD. IF Illinois continues on the rise, that home game may not be so easy for the Loosiers either! I guess what I'm getting at, they better relish their opportunity to play in playoffs at least once (this year).

I've been away for quite a while but I had to come here and share something I looked at over lunch. The game against Indiana will likely be a tightly contested match but there is reason for optimism on a few fronts.

Indiana is ranked as the #1 rushing defense, kudos. Here are the nationally ranked offenses they've seen (yds/game):
  • FIU - 104th
  • UCLA - 131st
  • Maryland - 118th
  • Northwestern - 123rd
  • Nebraska - 95th
  • Washington - 93rd
  • Michigan - 69th
  • Ohio State - 59th
  • Purdue - 110th
  • Charlotte - 106th
AVG - 91.5, HIGH - 59
  • Notre Dame - 10th

If you go by efficiency metrics, it's not much better for Indiana with the only notable riser being Ohio State to 29th. ND jumps to 3rd.

If you're wondering, here are the rushing defenses ND has faced:
  • TAMU - 49th
  • N. Ill - 20th
  • Purdue - 120th
  • Miami (OH) - 47th
  • Louisville - 42nd
  • Stanford - 39th
  • Ga Tech - 30th
  • Navy - 85th
  • FSU - 109th
  • Virginia - 60th
  • Army - 11th
  • USC - 54th
AVG - 55.5, HIGH - 11

Passing is what gives IU a chance here. They are 3rd in yards/att, 29th in yds/game. The passing defenses they've faced are below. The top 20 defenses appeared capable of stressing their offense:
  • FIU - 18th (180yds, 1 TD)
  • UCLA - 109th
  • Maryland - 107th
  • Northwestern - 88th
  • Nebraska - 51st
  • Washington - 5th (124yds, 1 TD, 1 INT)
  • Michigan - 66th
  • Ohio State - 2nd (68yds, 0 TD, 0 INT)
  • Purdue - 116th
  • Charlotte - 75th

  • Notre Dame - 3rd
And to build that 3rd place national ranking, Notre Dame has faced these passing offensive rankings:
  • TAMU - 93rd
  • N ILL - 117th
  • Purdue - 112th
  • Miami (OH) - 75th
  • Louisville - 20th (264yds 3 TDs, 1 INT)
  • Stanford - 104th
  • Georgia Tech - 49th
  • Navy - 132nd
  • FSU - 115th
  • Virginia - 65th
  • Army - 134th
  • USC - 10th (360yds, 3 TDs, 2 INT)
AVG: 85.5, HIGH - 10

Weather, special teams, fluke plays, officiating, etc can all have an effect on how this game ends up. The numbers suggest that NDs passing defense is bolstered by playing poor offenses but when tested, they've still kept teams to a low completion percentage, even if surrendering yards.

Indiana's rush defense is really bolstered by playing some of the worst rushing teams in CFB, with Ohio State representing the highwater mark in terms of total yards. Look at the differences in what these teams have faced over the regular season. It doesn't guarantee anything but it sure looks to favor ND being more battle-tested.

Can't wait for next Friday! Go Irish!

Can't help but compare the teams IU played to the teams Army played in terms of running attacks, some pretty bad running teams. They gave up 115 at 4 YPC to Ohio State, if ND gets 150+ this could be over at half

It seems like a lot of people who applied in the lottery are getting tickets. I haven’t heard of anyone who applied and didn’t get them. To me, that implies there weren’t a lot of “excess” people who applied, but maybe just enough to require a lottery. That could then imply that there could be a lot of ND fans there, or maybe a lot of IU fans who will buy tickets off ND fans who are selling for profit. This lottery certainly was geared towards being able to sell, with basically everyone being able to get 8 tickets. Will be interesting to see the turnout. NDB and family will be there 👍
Well, I guess everyone can call me Charlie Brown. I put in for only 2 tickets... didn't get them.

And I wasn't part of the initial lottery pool. I was part of the faculty/staff pool that wasn't told we would be part of a lottery when we applied for tickets. It was only after the deadline passed that an email was sent to us saying the demand was higher than expected and we would be thrown into the lottery. On Tuesday, we got the email saying we weren't selected... for 2 measly tickets.

But hey, I'm so very excited to hear that a lot of you who put in for 8 got your tickets!

This has to be up for "Most pitiful post of the year"

Ha....I'm just messing with you, go to the stadium on gameday and I'd bet my sack and everything in it....You'll get in for under 250 total. You just gotta have the guts to hold out.

Some of you that got 8 tickets, help the dude out IF you didn't really need 8. Give up a couple. Just fill the stadium with Irish fans!

Yeah, thanks for the pep talk. That's my plan but the unfortunate thing is I was planning to take a buddy of mine from out of town. He has until next Thursday to cancel his flight, which means ticket prices need to be in the reasonable range by then so he doesn't make the trip for nothing.

I am also looking for 2 tickets anywhere in the stadium if anyone has extras. Class of 2012 Keenan Hall, so I am certified Irish! But give them to Charlie Brown, I mean bumpdaddy, first please.

I went to the Natty in Jan 2013, a buddy and I paid a ton of money for our tickets. At the beginning of the second quarter another buddy shows up to our section, and he was supposed to be heading back to South Beach to party. Long story short, someone handed him a ticket for free. If your outside any stadium after kickoff and you don't panic you can always get lucky, have your boy come in and make that your last resort.

Thanks for the advice. I hope it doesn't come to that but if it does, I'll see if he is game.

It's not the same thing of course but I'm going to SmackDown tomorrow and I don't plan on getting a ticket until after the first bell rings.

With the forecasted temps continuing to creep colder and colder, a lot of folks will chicken out and watch on tv. Guessing there will be quite a few tickets to be had on Friday

Availability is up and prices are down. The dreams of less than 10K IU fans are gone, but I'm guessing everyone here looking for tickets will have a good chance to get them.
