NIU would have been almost the 5th toughest opponent on IU's schedule. Michigan State is 92nd in SP+, Maryland is 89th. NIU is 93rd. FIU, Western Illinois, Charlotte, Northwestern, and Purdue were all rated worse.

Oh, sure, even a month ago, a 7 seed against a very beatable opponent sounded pretty good.
It's just that the road to the semis is a lot easier in the 5 or 6 spot, and there is no justifiable reason for Texas and Penn State to be there instead of us.
But it's fine. We'll have to beat a team with more talent (on paper) than us at some point, if we hope to win the thing. Now we'll just have to do it in the second round instead of the third.

Only thing that initially worries me about this matchup is that Ohio St shit on them because of their huge advantage in the passing game. We don't have anything close to the same skill set they have on the perimeter

OSU and ND’s defenses are very comparable. Particularly in the speed category. We may not have OSU’s passing game but we have a better running game. Our D is the trump card.
