Truth is that their are two elite teams this year -- healthy Clemson, and Alabama. Just like people thought before the season. Ohio State has the NFL talent to maybe compete and pull off an upset. Maybe.

It does not matter who is #4. You cannot convince me that Oklahoma or A&M or Cinci will be competitive. A&M lost by 4 TDs to Bama. Probably the most competitive team would be Georgia with JT Daniels.

Oklahoma will get laughed off the field worse than ND, just like they do every year they get in the playoffs.

Game wasn't that bad. Offense just self-destructed when given opportunities and Rees was thoroughly out coached by the best DC in college football.

I thought the defense would give up 28-35 points and they did that despite making some truly crazy errors in key moments.

We watched a different game because I believe that Dabo took his foot off the gas at 24
. This could have been 3TDs worse.

ND is a top 4 team only because A&Ms loss to Bama was worse. Frankly just give Cincy a shot if they beat Tulsa and let them get smashed. #4 and #3 don't matter. I'd rather play in the Orange bowl and beat a beatable team.

Also a concern is losing any seniors or Jr's that might opt out for draft practice and or covid issues.

Until we get a top 5 DT, DE, LB, CB etc. in consecutive classes it will be same story. You can get a Te’o one year, great but he’s playing next to Dan Fox and Carlo Calebrese, get Jaylon Smith ok he plays next to Joe Schmidt. You have to get multiple guys at each level in consecutive years and that doesn’t seem attainable TE recruiting is great, can’t complain about O line recruiting but that’s it.

Law of averages would suggest Alabama and Clemson can’t be good forever. Even when recruiting at the clip they both do it doesn’t make sense they never miss.

Ultimately, those top three programs are doing something different then everyone else in college football, and it probably isn’t all within the rules.

Agree with all of this.

Only thing I'd add, is that personally, I'd like to see Cinci get the 4th (for several reasons). Give them a shot to at least impress or fail miserably. TAMU got blown out by a top team. ND just got blown out. Like you said, OSU might be able to get an upset.

My fear is OSU beats Clemson, only making us look worse.

Yep. Been saying it for years. We need an elite QB to win it all. That has proven to be the case year after year.

With an Elite QB the first three drives don’t stall and everyone in here is singing a different tune. Additionally, those elite guys have less weaknesses that can be exposed by defensive game planning. This game would have been closer with a mediocre QB who can play within the confines of an offense, and has presence in the pocket.

If we're talking "deserve" it's not close. ND has probably the 3rd best resume, definitely the 4th.

Whether it's a good idea to be in the playoffs as a 4 seed and get trucked by Bama is an entirely different question.
