Nope.

It's the hypocrisy however that bothers me. I absolutely love strong women, and love watching our women's national teams, etc... But find it silly that we are all "supposed to know" we are better physically, but at the same time "hide" the results because it was against a female team and we need to perpetuate this silly "everything he can do, she can do" crap. And that different-sex practice squads are suppose to play down to a certain level as to not "frustrate" the other. I grew up with a girl that was a great BB player, and she wanted to play against the boys to improve. She'd sock you in the eye if she thought you were taking it easy on her because she was a girl. Same goes between races. We all are different. We need to find the beauty and positives in those differences, instead of perpetuating PC BS.

Its not perpetuating PC BS to have the class to know that men shouldn't brag about beating women in a physical contest. Its quite the opposite of "anything he can do, she can do". They can't do what we can do. It was a practice match meant to work as a scrimmage for both teams to take a look at their weaknesses. It was a newly formed women's club against a men's academy club. No shit the men won. It wouldve been an embarrassment if they hadn't. Tweeting it out was IMO probably a PR stunt meant to capitalize on the newly formed Man U name to get their club some attention. A low blow.

This world gets worked up about the smallest things anymore. No one is going to remember this in a couple of days and the sun will still come up.

They tweeted the score from what I saw. I don't think that is to the level of trash talking or bragging. When the FC Dallas under 15 beat our world champion USWNT earlier this year, I don't recall any outrage when the score was tweeted.

The announcement of a 9-0 beating speaks for itself. 9-0 is embarrassing. The FC Dallas thing was notable and was picked up by news sites because it was a group of under-15 year olds beating the best womens team in the world.

I'm not a soccer expert and I'm not a historian of every single time this has happened before, the real issue I have with this is that it's being turned into a "PC" issue at all. Those who say "So? They're a bad women's club" on Twitter are apparently "oUtRaGeD". Somehow, the group saying that there are large amounts of activities wherein men are inherently physically superior and shouldn't announce that they beat a team of women are the "politically correct" ones, despite the fact that this runs directly counter to what I'm told is the "PC mindset" of today.

We may have a minor difference in what is sportsmanlike, which is fine, but the categorization of this being "PC outrage" is wrong IMO. Just like not every disagreement with one side isn't "hate speech", every disagreement with the other isn't "hypersensitive outrage." We keep using terms like PC and outrage and hate speech and pretty soon every opinion is going to be automatically invalid because its apparently all automatically hysterical.

Yes, it's distasteful to publicly shame them for the drubbing but those who dictate our culture would frown upon the mere recognition of biological differences between men and women, whether it's explicit or implicit.

We should all be shamed for wrong-think.

IMO, just tweeting a score is not bragging, regardless of the delta. If for instance they tweeted scores from every game or scrimmage they played, win or lose, then I see nothing wrong with it. If they rarely tweeted scores, but decided to tweet this one, then yes, I'd say it's bragging.

I'd tend to believe they were not bragging. If we are to assume men's teams should be superior to female teams, especially one's that are new, why brag? What would that get them?

Anyway, the tweet of the score is not the problem IMO. It's the idiots on both sides who felt the need to battle it out with sexist comments or ones making it a fem issue. Sports, regardless of who is playing who is a competitive exercise. Both of the teams, regardless of their sex, are there for wins, not participation trophies. If the simple tweeting of the score was "over a line", then I would ask, is it only over the line because it was an intersex game? Would it be OK if they tweeted a lopsided score vs another male team? Would it be OK, an actually celebrated by some if a women's team beat a men's team? Would that be OK? I just see a lot of hypocrisy.

To the best of my recollection, this aspect of British healthcare was discussed in this thread regarding end of life decision-making and Baby Charlie and Baby Alfie.

U.K. Courts Reduce Their Role in Ending Life Support (NY times)

LONDON — Families and doctors of patients in a persistent vegetative state will no longer need permission from a court to withdraw end-of-life care if both the relatives and the doctors agree, Britain’s highest court ruled on Monday.

The accepted practice in Britain has long been that nutrition and fluids could not be withheld from a patient in a vegetative state without the approval of a specialist tribunal, the Court of Protection. But that approval process can take months or years, and cost health authorities thousands of pounds in legal fees.

Decisions on whether to withdraw end-of-life care are made for thousands of patients each year, the National Health Service reported, though it was not clear how many were in a persistent vegetative state, or in how many cases the families and doctors were in agreement.
The ruling applies to England and Wales, and brings them into line with many other European countries, including Belgium, France, Germany and Portugal, which do not require court orders to withdraw sustenance from patients in a vegetative state.

In Ireland, a court order is required, while in Italy and Israel, the withdrawal of life support is not legally permitted. In the United States, laws vary widely by state.

I have a 25 year old niece, who is generally very smart. She went to private school and then played lacrosse and graduated from a small, well regarded college. Has a good job in the Atlanta area, etc... On the flip side, she literally believes women can compete athletically, toe-to-to, with men. For example , she thinks the only reason women aren’t in Major League Baseball is because they don’t get the opportunity. I tried having a conversation with her about it but it’s hard not to come off as some sexist jerk (to her, anyway). My dad (her grandfather) had no issue laughing and mocking her position. Being old can be fun for some things.

Well, she is technically correct. They can compete toe to toe with men. They'll just be on the losing side 99% of the time.

This depends upon the sport. 90+% of sports i.e. those involving explosiveness (raw speed, body-directional change quickness, jumping, muscling), there is very little chance. Sports in which high-skill absolutely predominates (racing where the animal or machine does the "muscle", or long distance ---VERY long distance --- running {some metabolic studies show that there is a point where true competition can exist}, bowling, diving, etc) are areas wherein women can legitimately win.

Back to the basketball example: almost no women BBall players can really get off the floor --- it's almost sad to hear the commentators talk about whether anyone will dunk in an All-Star game. No women BBall players can go end-to-end on the court with any of the faster men. This is why ANY competent high school team with the following two features will win games vs the WNBA All-Stars: 1). two rim-high shot-blockers and climax rebounders, and 2), one error-free press breaker --- LOTS of high school teams have these nowadays. This team would not even need shooters to win. They'd block shots, harass the dribblers and screeners, and run the court muscling for lay-ups and breakaways. If any of that failed, their bigs would just dominate boards and put-backs.

I don't LIKE this inequality at all, but it is the way we are --- FLAT truth. (look at all the ugliness of having to test testosterone and genes to keep "guys" from posing as girls and ruining their games.--- flashbacks to the criminal East German olympic teams of the 60s(?) and the Press "sisters.")

As to "baseball" --- sadly, again, no way. In my family's adopted hometown (a VERY small West Virginia town called New Martinsville), we were treated to a stop by the barnstorming Queen and Her Maids --- the female equivalent to Ernie Feigner's King and His Court. They wanted to play against local guys from the town. This little town is an athletic sleeping giant though, and the team that showed up beat them soundly. They couldn't compete (not regularly or often) with these admittedly good but certainly-not-professional old baseball players, who happened to be lying about the landscape of our small town.

One last (always sad) story: there once was an early professional track and field "league" attempted back maybe as far as the 70s but probably he 80s. For some @#$% reason, they decided to have a match sprint race between a womens world champion and a male shot-putter!!! The shot-putter was a lean variety one and unusually fast, but ..... The race began with the shot-putter looking sideways at her as he burst off the blocks for the first several strides. He was smiling. (God I hated this whole thing.) He realized that he was in a true race, so turned, got focussed on "business" and won closely. .........A shot-putter ............

I have so much natural affection for our gritty hard-working, 100% effort and dedication-to-the-team "tomboys" that I absolutely hate the gender comparisons crap and wish we'd all just shut up and enjoy the wonderful grace and beauty that the girls bring to their games.

An article with more insight on a coalition of right wing extremists who march today in Portland. They will have their own armed guards in addition to rallying in an area where they can carry concealed weapons. They bus people in from outside Portland and Oregon. The antifa will march from City Hall to the Waterfront to physically confront them.

Patriot Prayer, Antifa to face off in Portland one month after brutal riot

and

Portland isn’t Portlandia. It’s a capital of white supremacy.

Not up to date on the Portland Saga or experts on either group, but I did hear (or at least I thought I heard) that the Patriot Prayer group was very vocal in distancing themselves from any white nationalist group, and specifically asked them not to come to their events?

And isn't Portland or Oregon the motherland of Antifa? Thought the Portland Antifa group was the oldest active Antifa group?? So if Portland is the capital of white supremacy, isn't also the capital of militant anarchist/communist/socialist?

Patriot Prayer obtained permits for this rally and all previous events. So called counter-protesters of their events never obtain permits, at least none that I could find, and openly express their willingness to use force as a means to shut down permitted events.

A spokesman for Rose City Antifa, a prominent antifascist group in Portland, said its members physically confront their political opponents in the streets as a means to keep others in the city out of harm's way.

"We make no apologies for the use of force in keeping our communities safe from the scourge of right-wing violence," said the spokesman, who identified himself only by his first name David.

This is an issue b/c the political establishment and media agree with the counter-protesters and refuse to stop them from disrupting these events. The police could easily keep these masked men separated from the organized event provided their elected officials let them yet we see violence time after time.

Unless they want to become political prisoners, I suggest members of Patriot Prayer and other groups who organize continue using video to track their every movement at these events b/c they will be confronted, they will be assaulted and they will be forced to defend themselves.

You've been misinformed. Patriot Prayer's founder and leader, Joey Gibson, is an ethnically Asian white supremacist.

Keep calling your political opponents white nationalists, white supremacists, nazis, etc, and eventually you'll be right.

Man the only thing 'American Dream" about the street I grew up on was all the leaves changing colors, falling everywhere, and stuff in the fall... really did a number on all the oil stains and graffiti, at least for a few weeks...

Honestly though, we get it here. It's awesome, but I'm sure I'd be giddy somewhere like Minnesota or wherever that it's clearly more pronounced.

"Everyone should be carrying around guns at all times, especially in our situation," Joey Gibson said in a video, according to KOIN. "I cannot think of one rally when we didn't have guns with us . . . Everywhere we go, we have guns."

“We’ll have people locally showing up from Vancouver, Portland, Hillsboro, California. We have people flying in from Texas and the East Coast,” he told Oregon Public Broadcasting.

A crowd-funding effort led by Salt Lake City-based far-right darling Haley Adams has raised more than $2,800 to bring Patriot Prayer supporters to Portland.

Gibson's demonstrations have also attracted white nationalists and others who promote racist or bigoted views, including Jeremy Christian, the man accused of murdering two men aboard a MAX train, Portland's public transportation train, after he launched into an anti-Muslim rant last year.

Even as the Patriot Prayer leader moved to denounce racists, some have continued to participate in his events. Members of white supremacist groups such Identity Evropa and Stormers PDX have attend rallies held by Gibson in Portland in the last nine months. Gibson's Patriot Prayer is from Vancouver, Wash across the river from Portland.

Patriot Prayer attracts a growing number of alt-right figures and members of the Proud Boys fraternity. Proud Boys was founded by conservative writer and political commentator , Gavin McInnes, the group bills itself as a street-fighting "pro-Western fraternal organization." Members have also made regular appearances alongside Gibson at his rallies in the Portland area.

"Major wars, major events can pivot on the slightest thing," McInnes said. "This entire war has just changed and it's all because of this unbelievable punch. The greatest punch in the history of Trump's presidency."

Two regular rally attendees, Donovon Flippo and Tusitala "Tiny" Toese, members of Proud Boys, have been involved in at least two reported assaults on people they allegedly attacked on the street.

Alex Jones, the radio host who runs the conspiracy website Infowars and who has promoted the demonstration, told Gibson he "might even come" to the Aug. 4 event.

"The street violence I saw on June 30 was the worst I have seen at any event since Charlottesville," said Jason Wilson, a journalist with The Guardian.

They all come to Portland to riot. The mayor has been roundly criticized for allowing groups with such intent and demonstrated violence to get another permit, making Portland a lightning rod for their hate and "Unite the Right". Charlottesville saw the extremists made up of alt-right, neo-Nazis, KKK, white supremists, various militias, etc.

The Multnomah County GOP said the Republican Party "has serious concerns, in light of the refusal of the Portland Police Bureau to protect the rights of Republican Senate Candidate Joseph Gibson and his Patriot Prayer group during a June 30, 2018 demonstration." Gibson is running for Senate in Washington.

Halloween costumes and all kinda pumpkin spice BS on display at the local COSTCO today.

90 days is way too early for Halloween. Perhaps they are trying to get it out of the way so they can roll the Christmas stuff out at the end of September.

They were also selling mittens and thermal underwear and those puffy jacket vest things. I stuck with water, wine, vodka, coffee and a sweet handtruck/dolly.
