Hopefully we can get rolling again, pitching and hitting.

Fowler is coming on, Castro has shown signs of coming out of it, and Bryant just had a big night. I'm optimistic that we'll hit a bit more. We'll see if the pitching stays near the top of the league.

Nothing earth shattering. Didn't give up anyone spectacular didn't get anything spectacular. But got minimum needs. If they are still wild card contenders in a month there's always the waiver deadline.

Solid day. Gave up very little for a very good fifth starter. Kept all our top prospects. I like it a lot.

Cubs just completed a 4 game sweep of the Giants! 3.5 games up on the Giants for the #2 wildcard spot and 3 back of the Pirates for the #1 wildcard spot. Going to be a fun ride down the stretch as we have 6 more games against both the Cards and Pirates. Other than those series our schedule is very manageable.

Dang. We're winning in lots of different ways. The young guys are thriving on the pressure and the bats are coming around. We're just missing a lock-down closer at this point. Theo is the smartest guy in the room.

I want to get excited but won't till September. If we're where we are in a month I'll let my excitement explode

Load the bases and strike out the side. Felt like Mitch Williams in 1989 (except Mike Schmidt wasn't one of the victims today).

Not being a homer at all, but Bryant ROTY, Rizzo MVP, and Arrieta for Cy Young?

I think KB is almost a definite at this point. Hitting 270 with 18 HRs and 73 RBIs. Only person who could compete with Rizzo for MVP is Harper but how valuable is he if his team doesn't even make the post season? And Arrieta is kind of a long shot but he at least has to be in the top 3.

Was at Thursday's game vs braves. They were 0-2 before then on games I attended (home opener vs cards, and hamels no no).

Only 4 teams with 70 wins, 3 from nl central. Blows my mind.

Amazing how well they've done this season, in what was supposed to be a building year. They've certainly done what they set out to do.

This team is incredible bro! I am so glad I went to see them when they played Atlanta. I'm converted for life, and it isn't even close! Your fan base was great and in full force at the Ted. I watched Jake pitch masterfully as he has all year, and Soler hit a laser to dead center. I don't know if I have ever had that much fun at a ball game, and truth be known baseball is probably my first love.

Well it was only a matter of time but the Cubs have officially clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2008 tonight with the Giants loss! Go Cubs Go!

Pretty excited to see how they do. Bummed that two of the top three teams in a MLB will have to play a one game playoff with one of them being knocked out. But hopeful the Cubbies can go one to play the Cards in a divisional series. That would be awesome!

I'll be a little disappointed if Jake Arrieta doesn't win the Cy Young.

It is awesome this team is finally getting back to the playoffs, especially since everyone back in March they were still a year away from doing any damage. The FO and Maddon is building this team to be good for a very long time.

They're going to be very dangerous next year with a rotation of Arrieta-Price-Lester (or however order you want to put them in).

It's a hard choice because Greinke has been consistent all year long but Jake has been way better than everyone since the all star break. There's also the fact that he's had to pitch against the Cardinals and Pirates while Greinke's opponents haven't been as good. Hopefully the writers do a little research instead of just voting based off of ERA. That said, I couldn't be mad if they have it to Greinke because he's had an epic year as well. Either way someone deserving of the award isn't going to get it.

Been thinking this for a while-the Pirates are killing it this year. How have they not fallen away? Amazed.

But not nearly as amazed as I am with the Cubs!

As long as Arrieta is pitching against the Pirates, I think it will be a Cubs/Cards NLDS.

Two weeks ago (and the entire time before that), it was Greinke. He had an ERA about a third of a run better than Jake. At this point, Jake is only .14 lower (1.68 to .1.82) That's nothing.

On the other hand, Jake has more wins (21 to 18), more innings (223 to 214.2), more shutouts (3 to 0), more complete games (4 to 1), a very similar WHIP (.852 to .879), the same number of hits per nine innings (6.0...I think Jake leads by hundredths), more strikeouts (229 to 192), etc.

The main argument for Greinke is ERA, but that gap has narrowed. They've both had historically good years. It will be a shame that one of them gets second.

ETA: Jake has also had one of the best stretches since the dead ball era since the All Star break. Truly dominant.
