Some fun facts from Forbes today:

6.29 The Cubs Jake Arrieta allowed the fewest hits per nine innings in the National League in 2016. His teammates Hendricks, Lester and Jon Lackey ranked 3, 4 and 5.

103 The Cubs’ MLB-best number of regular season wins this year. Only two of the last 27 teams with 100 wins won the World Series with the New York Yankees pulling it off in 1998 and 2009.

$1,640 Average sale price as of Sunday on the secondary market for World Series games at Progressive Field at ticket reseller TicketIQ.

$3,870 Average resale price at Wrigley. The previous record for a World Series since 2010 was the San Francisco Giants at $1,661 in 2010.

19,650 Average home attendance for the Indians—No. 28 in baseball.

39,906 Average attendance for the Cubs at Wrigley, which ranks fifth in MLB.

$800 million Value of the Indians, which ranks No. 27 in baseball. Lawrence Dolan paid $323 million for the team in 2000.

$2.2 billion Value of the Cubs, which ranks No. 5 among MLB teams. The Ricketts family paid $845 million for the team, Wrigley Field and 25% stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago in 2009.

$8 billion Amount Fox is paying for regular season and postseason games between 2012 and 2021. This marks the 17th straight year, and 19th overall, the World Series is broadcast on Fox. Joe Buck has been the play-by-play announcer for all of them. The Series will remain on Fox through at least 2021.

19 years of Joe Buck is 19 too many.

Fox should have hired a couple of recent free agents Vin Scully & Dick Enberg to call the Series. Baseball deserved it.

Heyward not playing against a righty is interesting. Bet he's a late-inning defensive replacement. But, dang.

I hope it's a wrist injury and therefore correctable but the dude has been eaten up by fastballs this year. Personally, I would have started Contreras in LF (Zobrist in RF) over Coghlan in RF.

Yeah, He's got 7 yrs / $160M+ left. Tough to spin putting in your back up outfielder who's batting .188 on the year over your $25M man.

That's what we were just talking about. Sometimes you have to say who cares to the lefty / righty match ups. Contreras is money.

Going to put this here since those in the World Series thread only wanted to talk balls and strikes from last night.

Cubs fan for life here.

Sucks to lose anytime. And I was very frustrated last night watching the game. I have no idea how the series will shake out. But I wanted to offer some things I thought were positives and get some feedback.

1. Schwarber can play ball, even if he is rusty. The double off the wall off of Kluber was nice. But the walk was equally good in my opinion. Think he stays in lineup so long as he doesn't struggle going forward.

2. We had guys on base against their best, Kluber and Miller. We simply did not capitalize when we had the chance.

3. Looks like our gameplan was the long road approach hoping to wear down their strongest. We took a ton of first pitch strikes from Kluber who ended up throwing 88 pitches (not a ton). Same or similar approach we had with Kershaw. Then in game 6 we attacked more. I was frustrated thinking "why are we laying off these first pitch strikes?!" Then I remember the Dodgers series. Not saying this is the approach but if so we also got Miller to throw 46 pitches. Seeing how Francona has already said Kluber is going games 1,4,7 if necessary, I think it is a good overall approach since we do have the better rotation overall.

4. Personally I think Maddon threw out Grimm and Rondon to see what they had in the moment early in the series. They are the bullpens liabilities at this point, so makes sense to me to see if they are going to step up. Neither looked very good. I don't think we'll see Rondon again unless we are up big. He just hasn't looked himself since he returned from injury. Grimm might not see important action either based on his outing. So, as bad as those guys were in their outings, I think Joe knows what he has now in the pen for this series, and they are not it. Not saying he wasn't trying to win in the moment, but Joe was planning for future games in my opinion.

5. Maddon seemed less than concerned in the post-game interview.

Just heard the batting order starts like this:
1. Fowler
2. Schwarber
3. Bryant
4. Rizzo

I think this may actually happen

I also just saw that Contreras is starting. interesting call, given that Miggy has been catching Jake all year.

My guess is it has to do with pick off plays. I read that base runners are 23 of 26 against Jake. Wilson is the better of the two for this right? Like if Maddon is worried that Indians will get on base and steal bases against Jake...he should play the catcher who's better at picking them off. I just don't know if my assumption is accurate.

Contreras caught him in game 2 where Jake pitched fairly well. Since the Indians are so aggressive on the bases I understand the reluctance to put Montero behind the plate.

Yes, Arrieta/Montero was a pretty bad combo against the running game this year. Lester/Ross were better at preventing stolen bases, which is something given Lester's struggles.

Yeah. Good points from both of you. Contreras has a chance to make up for Jake's slow delivery. He's also an absolute bulldog. Such a hard worker. love the kid.
