He's only thrown 15 pitches and he had a full day of rest prior. He'll be ready tomorrow if he's needed.

Lester and Lackey are also available tomorrow, so Maddon has a full pen.

Would I have used him? No. But you have to get to game 7 before you worry about using him.

Well when I posted this I didn't know that he was only going to pitch 15 to 20 pitches. So yeah he will be back tomorrow.

But up by 7 runs I don't see why you bring him in the 7th inning...

I would bring him in when the lead was 3 runs or less in the 8th or 9th whenever the lead was 3 or less runs. Just see no reason for him to come in the 7th inning up 7 runs.

If he comes into the game when the lead is reduced to 3, chances are there would be runners on base and he struggles when he comes in with inherited runners.

I can see why someone would be confused by the move but I understand why Joe made it. When you're facing elimination you can't take any chances.

All fair. Joe used him like a traditional bullpen ace. He got the Cubs through the most difficult part of the lineup. It's how Sutter, Gossage, and Fingers used to be used.

I don't think they overextended Champman at all yesterday. He threw 20 pitches, that's not that unusual. Yeah, he pitched a lot in Game 5 but he also had a day off there.

Just relaying what a couple of baseball experts said. I'm a Yankees guy, so I don't have a dog in this fight.

As far as who has the most pressure, I would say it's even and at a high level for both. Indians trying not to blow a 3-1 lead and Cubs trying to overcome a 3-1 deficit as the favorites, especially since they were picked by many to win in 5 or 6.

- Fear of losing at home in front of the fans that would magnify the meltdown.

Peter Gammons might be my favorite analyst in all of sports and I can't say I've ever disagreed with him. But if he said that... well there's a first time for everything I guess.

I agree with this assessment of Kluber. I'm surprised that all the pitching talk is on Chapman and not on Kluber. He's starting his 3rd game, with it being his 2nd time on short rest. If anything I would be more nervous of Kluber's arm then Chapman's, especially with the way the Cubs batted yesterday.

In any other situation besides Game 7 of the WS, I'd agree. But the Cubs can literally trot out Hendricks/Lester/Chapman and call it a day. Combine that with Kluber and the rest factor, I'm not sure he's going to be on point for this particular game. Gut feeling.

Yeah, good point. It all depends on how Lester is able to get prepped out of the pen. And, if someone gets on, the base stealing is magnified.

Kluber's rest is a huge factor. Who knows how he'll respond. Hard to think he'll be as sharp, but I thought that of Josh Beckett in 2003. I've been hurt before...

idk how I feel about Lester out of the pen... I guess it's fine if you have a lead and are going into a new inning... I can't possibly see him coming in if the Cubs are tied or ahead by 1 or whatever and the Indians have any base runners.

I am not a Cubs fan at all, lifelong Sox fan and Chicago resident of 35 years. I have never seen something like this for sports in my life including the Bears Super Bowl try 10 years ago, all the Hawks wins, Sox WS etc. This is so much different Every store is packed, bars already slammed, anywhere you go someone asks you about the Cubs. Some schools have taken field trips just to take class photos outside of Wrigley this week. Regardless of the outcome this has been great for the city. No matter who wins tonight it is history for both cities that I do not think anyone in either town will forget anytime soon.
