What does bill gates know about infectious diseases

I understand your point. I have been watching his talks for a long time and he has the funds to care. He's not new to this thought process.

He led a coalition that founded CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation)s in response to emerging infectious diseases and the development of vaccines.

"CEPI was launched at Davos, in 2017, by the governments of Norway and India, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the
Wellcome Trust and the World Economic Forum, as the result of a consensus that a coordinated, international, and
intergovernmental plan was needed to develop and deploy new vaccines to prevent future epidemics"]
A coalition backed by Bill Gates is funding biotechs that are scrambling to develop vaccines for the deadly Wuhan coronavirus

It's the best we've got currently for discussing alternatives. And when the lives of millions of Americans are in the balance, it's tough for the politicians to argue for more exposure in favor of juicing the economy. The calculus involved is pretty morbid.

First, I don't disagree.

However, here is where my mind goes.....a few links later in the chain reaction, we have an economic depression that falls somewhere between 1930's and the Great Recession. In order to keep things semi-viable, the government needs funds and essentially defaults on interest and debt payments. Other governments do the same and in the end, there is a battle for resources that ends in WWIII. The few million lives at stake now will be a drop in the bucket compared to another World War.

I think the likelihood of that is remote. But the greater economic harm that is done today, increases the chances of military conflict down the road IMO.

Keep that stuff in the tin foiled container. I've watched the whole system come to today and I created a thread about it... I was made fun of and treated like I was a numb nut.
I agree with the fact that we are heading toward some serious unpresidented days and It comes down to a culmination of things.
We are all really the same (humans) and the media continues to alienate us from countries their(media) owners want to alienate.

This virus Is just the beginning.
The doomsday preppers just might be onto something.

I saw a clip where a reporter asked Trump if that was racist. “No, that’s where it started. Next question.”

What kind of stupid ass questions is that? With all that’s going on, this is what the reporter wants to ask? What’s wrong with some people?

As some others may have pointed out, Bill Gates funds a lot of the research against pandemics/epidemics in the world. He is closely tied in with some of the top researchers and developers in modern medicine, particularly in regards to epidemic diseases. Any information he has would be coming from them and should probably be considered pretty valuable.

There are a lot of reporters that should be mad with whatever school they got their degree from. Some of these reporters are flat out idiots. The other day 4 reporters in a row asked Trump the same question.

That happens often when they don't like the answer.

Italy has some of the worst cases of this virus we have seen.
Isn't it ironic that the Bible talks about the end of days and some scholars say Rome, Italy will be the origination according to The book of Revelation?

Very odd times we are involved with indeed.

Trivial, but might be of help to some.

Had grocery delivery from Kroger for the second time in the last 7-10 days. They had a lot more in stock than last time. Hamburger, milk, eggs, potatoes, produce, and a lot of things were in. All was out last week. Still didn't get chicken breast, tea bags, and other stuff, but I'd say in general, I got 80ish % of what I ordered this time, as opposed to 30% last time. $550 ordered, $429 was delivered (I'm sure it's not a direct ratio as many items were sub'd). I have back up orders lol with Walmart being delivered tomorrow evening with similar things, that I could have modified or canceled before 1am, but letting it all ride. I have 40lbs of potatoes (only ordered 20), so will be eating a lot of spuds the next month and likely handing off some to the neighbors.... holy cow. Anyone with a good potato recipe, please PM me...

On a very happy and trivial note, I have been out of good coffee for at least a week. I didn't get the SBs variety I ordered, but I did get one of my preferred subs (you can add instruction to each item). I even got french vanilla creamer... I'm so jacked up on my second big Yeti cup of Joe... happy happy happy coffee coffee coffee

It's the little things that help keep a little bit of normalcy.

Many have zero intent to inform, and every intent to cause divide, sensationalism, etc..

It's pretty disgusting given the circumstances. I've seen several similar things the last month. You would think folks would snap out of it just for a while.

The absolute hysteria over this is mind blowing. Likely fueled by foreign governments, those with TDS and those brainwashed by the dishonest media.

We will all die from climate change in 10 years anyway...according to the "experts" I don't suppose the politics behind climate change is behind this over-reaction?

Are you unable to go to the grocery store on your own?

I've been every day for a week buying staples for elderly clients of mine and a few friends who are unable to make it there due to health issues. Going again tomorrow to shop for a friend with MD who lives in a nursing home and is not allowed to leave.

I am, and did a couple times, but everything was pretty much out when I went. I've made the decision to NOT go for the foreseeable future due to concerns with my mother. Given her situation (not sick, but serious underlying conditions) I'm trying to go out of my way to keep clear from as much as possible in the case I may have to return to Indy on a moment's notice. I have her on lock down in her house, with my cousin and neighbors making all her runs. I almost decided to return last week to care for her, but a doc friend of mind said I'd be putting her at more risk at this point by travelling home. I really have little fear for myself, but I'm scared shitless for her and some of my aunts and uncles (70-95 range) who I'm incredibly found of.

I'm typically the guy like you (catering to the neighborhood elderly and needy), but I just can't risk that right now with my mom's situation. Whenever it snows or ices over down here, I'm literally the neighborhood shopper and taxi.

Is the term “Chinese Virus” racist?

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/486920-cdc-chief-says-its-wrong-to-call-covid-19-a-chinese-virus

It's clearly a bunch of PC bullshit and just another tomato libs can throw at The Don. In this time of great despair there's honestly no reason to be taking the high road and be losing cheap shot name games with China. It's win now, win tomorrow, and win forever. Again Don just keeps it too real for some pansy ass folks. Screw Asian Americans, am I right?

......

Seriously people. It's defer, detract, and distract. That's the name of the game. And you're playing right into it. You've been playing it for 3 years now. Perfect 10/10.

Nah man, we need to attack the Orange Man any time we can. Doesn't matter if it's a time we should all come together. Doesn't matter if the WHO just got woke lately, and most viruses were named after places during the Obama years and before. We need to pick at every single thing we can to show Orange Man Bad. So what if CNN and MSNBC also called it the China Virus, we just need to stick it to the Don. We must win at any cost, and now more than ever, we need the clicks. We can't let a global tragedy go to waste. Got to be woke!

And by the way, Ilhan Omar should be fired. Can you believe she said good stuff about Trump's response. And screw that Cali governor too. What the hell are they thinking.

Good to be concerned for your mom. I'm worried for my daughter. She's a nurse in a hospital, but her immune system isn't what it used to be after her battle with breast cancer and all of the radiation and chemo. Her primary duties are caring for cancer patients and surgical nurse.

I ran over to the Kroger by work at lunch time to pick up a few things. No TP in sight and only a couple of packages of paper towels left. Meat and seafood coolers were pretty much empty. Fortunately the chickens and cows are ignoring the stance on small gatherings as eggs and milk were available.

Put her on lock down J. How long has it been since her last treatment? Hats off to what she does, and who she helps, but if it hasn't been at least a year, I'd beg her to stay home.

My mom is about 3 months since her last radiation round. She just postponed her PET scan check up this week until April due to fear of going into the hospital. That in itself worries me, as I really don't want her to miss a status check. If it weren't for the check ups, they wouldn't have caught it early for the second time last year after her first round of treatment and surgery.

Don't like her politics at all, but I have new respect for her now. And she's one of the last people I ever thought I would say that about.

It's been 7 years so she's good from that aspect. She got her bachelors in psychology from Purdue, her masters in Public Health from IU and was running clinical trials for alzheimer and dementia patients when she found out she had cancer. Went through all of the treatment then went back to school to get her nursing degree which led to what she's doing now.

I thought I remembered you saying something about her, but couldn't figure the specifics. Was she with you downtown that one time, or was that your son and daughter and law (or both).

I'll keep her (and you and yours) in my prayers. Those treatments kick you in the bottom, and take years to get back to normal, or really even close to normal.

It was her, the son in law and all four sons who came with me to the game.

The local news did a very unscientific test on cleaning your hands. They had four participants and checked their hands via ultra-violet light. All four looked pretty much the same. Then they had one simply wash with water, one wash with soap and water for 10 seconds, the third wash with soap and water for 20 seconds and the fourth with hand sanitizer. Checking their hands again, washing with soap and water for 20 seconds showed much better results than the others. Washing with soap and water for 10 seconds provided the same cleansing as did hand sanitizer.

No more splash and dash fellas.

I'm of the mindset that in 6 months there will be millions who regret panicking, and the financial/lifestyle sacrifices will be great, both personal and nationwide. And there will be many people who want a re do, their jobs back, and their summer back.

I'm of the mindset that every country that didn't take proactive steps is currently in meltdown... while every country that did has had good results... so this kind of thinking is anti-factual.
