Depends on what kind you buy. None are perfect but some will help tremendously. The issue with masks when it comes to any virus is that people touch them/take them off and put them back which increases the likelihood of getting the virus on the inside of the mask - basically it's easy to turn an asset into a liability.

It works best for the sick person to wear it but it'll certainly help if used correctly.

Not to mention "Mild case" pretty much just means "not hospitalized". You can actually have pneumonia and still be under the cateorgy of "mild". So expect that for most of those 80% it will still likely be as sick as they've ever been in their lives.

N95's are effective in greatly reducing the chance of inhaling the virus. Good luck finding one. If you have one from a home project or from your job, I'd ABSOLUTELY wear it on a plane.

Standard surgical mask? THAT sounds like it's a waste of time.

Can you name one who downplayed it's seriousness for political purposes? The people around him were afraid to be brutally honest so as not to offend him. Think about that for longer than you thought about when the opening bell was this morning and get back to me.

He also sounds a little stuffy. Can he not get a test yet either?

Not sure how other departments are handling things but my fire department is having our guys wear the N95s and masking the patient, when appropriate.

If it's the cloth or paper type you typically see in hospitals, those won't work. The pathogen is too small. The only type that will stop it is the full face mask with the filters. We have a safety division and we are running out of stock. We've kept the cloth and paper ones for our existing customers so we can fulfill contracts. 3M can't keep up with demand and neither can Honeywell.

My son stopped by the office. His company is getting slammed for service right now. They specialize mold remediation. Eli Lily and Simon Properties (Large malls) put them on retainer. He's sending one crew to Louisville to do sanitizing fogging on a 750,000 warehouse while he's heading to Chicago with another crew to do a large bank where everything needs to be cleaned by hand.

There are a lot of "presumptive" cases of coronavirus based on clinical diagnoses, because testing is not widely available as it is for flu, etc. Often these people, who self-quarantine based on physician recommendations, do not make it into the stats unlike with other countries where rapid testing is available.

Still is good to see that the Admin appreciates the work of the CDC and in public healthcare facing the challenges of this pandemic.

As Trump expressed when he visited the CDC on March 7 and talked with the media:

N95 and N99's are/can be paper/cloth and they do work effectively if used properly. That's what healthcare workers use.

What you posted is the full monty. A P-100 respirator AND a sealing face shield. I had to have one of those until out samples came back negative for asbestos.

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

It is the policy of the United States to take proactive measures to prepare for and respond to public health threats, including the public health emergency involving Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was declared by the Secretary of Health and Human Services on February 4, 2020, pursuant to section 564 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 360bbb-3). N-95 masks are not required to reduce the risk of transmission. Our hospital system is only requiring them when performing aerosolized procedures such as bronchoscopy, intubation, suctioning airways, etc. Otherwise surgical masks are required for all isolated patients.

Just so we're clear if you are having any of the symptoms but HAVENT traveled to any know covid-19 countries you do not meet any of the criteria for testing.
