Bedside/Nightstand quick access safes. Anyone have any recommendations?
My piggy bank is finally full so I'm ready to buy my first pistol. I've narrowed it down to a Glock 19 or a Colt Government Model 1911. Give me your best pitch on why I should choose one over the other. I fired 100 rounds with each yesterday and I was comfortable and reasonably accurate with both.
Note that I don't plan to carry, the primary purpose would be range shooting and home defense. Also, the Glock would come with Connecticut-compliant ten round magazines, so the capacity difference is narrowed considerably.
Counterpoint: 1911s are cool as shit and Glocks are sort of ghey.I own both, and shoot them both pretty regularly. My grandfather's 1911 is aesthetically superior, the softest-firing .45 I've ever used, and as an heirloom, it means much more to me. Though that's specific to my particular 1911. Assuming yours isn't an heirloom, it should be a pretty easy call in favor of the Glock19 for two main reasons: (1) 9mm is a lot cheaper and easier to find than .45 ACP; and (2) Glocks are Lego guns that you can service and modify yourself after watching a few Youtube videos, whereas 1911s need somewhat regular attention from a good armorer to maintain.

How would I achieve that, exactly? And even if I did, how would I ever shoot it, exactly?Dont buy CT compliant guns you boob.
Get yourself something badass. The state will never know.

If you're not gong to carry, I'd suggest the Glock 17. If you're all about the range and home defense, go with the full size. It'll be more accurate than the shorter barrel.
How about the argument that 45 ACP is a better home defense round because it's fat and slow so there's a lower risk of it blasting through walls and hurting an innocent?

Perhaps wiz is a carney?
Joking aside, I know some who opt for the 19 over the 17 simply because it's easier for their wife to fire and she might need to use it at some point. I opted for the 19 because I carry occasionally, but if this was strictly for home defense, I'd go for the 17 too.
And then once your piggybank is full again, slap an RDS on it.

I'm going to pull a Koon. I asked for advice and now I'm going to entirely ignore it.
I'm getting the Colt. I get all the reasons you guys laid out for the Glock but this is a gut thing. Firing both, my instinct with the Glock was "this is fine," and my instinct with the 1911 was "this is awesome." I think it's because the polymer felt like a toy more than a weapon.
Now I just need to find one.

Get both.
Guns are like tats.
Pretty soon you'll have a full sleeve.
I have a few already, but the others were inherited so not what I would have chosen for myself. I'll definitely be filling up a safe over several years.Get both.

That's fine. You'll be compromising somewhat on ammo cost, maintenance/ customizability, durability, and performance, but the 1911 is undoubtedly a sexier pistol. As long you practice, it should serve you well.
Ended up getting the Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911. They're doing an "instant gear up" promotion where you get a case, range bag, five magazines, holster, and mag pouch thrown in. MSRP was $940, got it for $800 with all the extra crap so I feel pretty good about it.
