Coolest Guns you have fired?

So I am in the market for a handgun for home defense. I have been recommended Glocks but I dont like the feel. I also want a heftier handgun. Can you afficianados recommend a couple pieces?

Check out a cz75 all metal pistol. They are heavier because of the frame and youll probably like the way it sits in your hand too. They have full size, compact and sub compact versions.

Sig Sauer and HK VP9 are my favs, if you don't like Glocks.

Friendly note. 9MM are the cheapest to shoot/maintain. A 9MM HP is plenty of stopping power for HD. Glocks IMO are the cheapest to customize.

Might want t research the 1911 jamming issues.

If it's purely for HD, recommend a full size of whatever you get.

Feel is important, but what felt best to me wasn't the most accurate. And keep in mind you can buy different grips.

If the wife is going to use too, make sure you take her to the range lol. My GF could handle a 45, but she was way more accurate with a 9. And a hollow point 9 is just as deadly as a 45. And the whole stopping power stuff is overrated.

I tried a ton. HK/Sig/Glock were my final 3. I went with what I was most accurate with.

I'm a Ruger guy. I think I own 6 now. I carry a SR9 and have a p-94 for home defense. Love both those guns. Dependable, durable and heavy enough to limit blowback.

I also have a Taurus judge .45. The home defense rounds for that cannon will stop just about anything that moves.

If you like the weight and feel of the 1911 frame. I own a STI Spartan IV in 9mm. I love it and never had any issues with it feeding unless I was shooting cheap steal case ammo. I personally am a Glock guy, love them but that STI is one smooth shooting and pretty gun.

S&W sport is a damn good AR for the money. Finding ammo is the issue down in FL. Hard to find 556 or 9mm

For AR - Sons of Liberty, BCM or TRIARC. 13.5/13.9 pinned/welded flash hider or muzzle break. No go on Bushmaster.

I'm hoping to grab a TRIARC 10.3" 300 Blackout for home defense.

M&P 2.0 9mm 3.6 or 4" barrel for concealed carry. M&P has always felt better than the Glock for me. Don't like the grip angle on the Glock.

Also, more companies offering mods to the M&P's.

Ah. I don't own one of those but considered it with the Ruger 9mm carbine and the Beretta CX4. Although both those last two are carbines, I decided on the Beretta because of the destructive force at short range and accuracy.

I love the weight (about 3lb) of the CX4 and the power. You might check out some carbines for home defense. The shorter barrel is easier for stepping room to room.

Hard to find 556 or 9mm

This was truly the perfect storm:

An election year, (when theres always a panic anyways) paired with Covid shutting down production, and civil unrest, put demand at an all time high.

I had some extra cash, and stacked really deep in 223, 556, and 9mm around December. Caught a huge break in that regard, and am grateful.

Last time I looked, 556 was creeping up to around 80 cpr. Insanity. It will be over a dollar a pop after Christmas.



*ND, the S&W Sport is the defacto starter AR for lots and lots of people. It will give the casual shooter all they need, and is a decent rifle.

I echo was YJ said: try before buying, because what it feels like in your hands may not fit with how it shoots. I'm a huge proponent of starting out with revolvers. They're heavier, but that helps with kickback.

Fun fact: I can count on both hands how many times I've went out shooting. I'm very good with shotguns and clay pigeons. Better than most of my buddies who are the definition of hicks. Pisses my old man off that I'm good at it since he never taught me so he can't take credit.

Would like to get there with rifles as well. Oddly enough, my old man is a reformed hick. Grew up on a farm/dairy farm. Doesn't want any part of the lifestyle now other than helping my uncle harvest once in a blue moon. Think he might have PTSD.

This is just my opinion, and Im sure some will disagree:

Wheel guns (revolvers) are OK for the nightstand, but for an everyday carry/primary firearm, Id go semi-auto for higher mag capacity, ease of conceal, and comfort of carry. I personally would avoid wheel guns altogether as anything more than a collection piece you enjoy using at the range.

The only people who have a 1911 as their primary firearm are Boomers. I personally think you shouldnt carry a 1911 unless you also wear a KOREA VETERAN hat with it. I get it, these guys had it as a service pistol and its all they know, but if you are looking for YOUR piece, be practical, and just get a semi-auto. If your quest leads you to a 1911, so be it.

As to which semi-auto, that is a matter of preference, and there are lots of good manufacturers. The only input I have for that (so I dont sound like a shill) is avoid Taurus and Hi-Point at all costs.

I just SBR'd my home piece- LMT Defender 2000 pistol in 300 AAC with a sopmod stock, LMT vertical grip, EOTECH, Cloud Defensive REIN light, YHM Phantom Suppressor, and law tactical folder.

When my BRN-180S comes in, it's going to be my new bag gun.

Regarding home defense are hollow points the best option? I worry about having to shoot it with occupied rooms in the event I have to use it.
