I loved PC saying ND was a solid #4...

However I do agree with Kirk... Of the top 6.. Everyone controls own destiny but ND... Iowa wins out, they take OSU spot... Ok st wins out they pass ND... ND wins out and I think they still need a loss from Ok st

Iowa winning out is irrelevant.

And at that point, we'll relish and accept a New Year's to post New Year's bowl game and pocket some change and recruiting ops.

I love that the committee actually sits down and watches games and understand the full body of work teams are putting in. UNC played 2 FCS teams... that's on them. Want to be ranked higher than 17th? Don't schedule like a wanker.

TCU sucks. TCU is rightly ranked 18th. A more ignorant collection of people (see: poll voters putting them at 11) could keep them undeserving near the top 10.

They watch Bama and see what everyone else sees... they're the most talented team out there.

You hear Jeff Long speak and the rationales given and I'm just completely shocked that the committee is doing a good job of staying logically consistent. I can definitely see Notre Dame getting left out in the end, but if that happens I know we'll have gotten a fair shake.

Also... props to them for having Navy fairly evaluated. Got to hope the middies run the table.

How did we prove? We lost?

I understand that. Given all the conditions, and the final score of the game, I think everyone can agree we proved we can beat Clemson. The committee must have similar beliefs if we are "solid" at 4.

Didn't expect any big changes. It will be telling to see what happens with OK St/Oklahoma if either/both win this weekend.

It would be just fantastic if they both lost this weekend. I think us getting in is a done deal if they both lose one more game, assuming we win out. I think Ok. St. will jump us if they win out... Oklahoma I'm 50/50 on.

I think Ok St is gonna lose, they wont beat Baylor and then Oklahoma. And i honestly don't think Oklahoma gets in over us if they run the table, losing to texas is BAD. TCU wont be an impressive win when it shakes out

I agree. Beating TCU without boykin isn't as impressive.

With their next loss, TCU will be knocked out of the top 25, and will cease to exist as a quality win.

Iowa is 2-0 against the top 25, their schedule is far from atrocious. Not sure they are top four quality, but I think they could beat Ok St.

ND, win and in baby!

Ohio St will beat Iowa St

As sad as I am to say it. They're hitting their stride soon. I think.

Top 4 is top 4 now.

Get ready for Bama boys.

That's my hunch. 1 vs 4 seed.

If we are SOLIDLY #4, and if #5 Iowa is "Better" than either of the OKs, how are we in trouble in the committee's view? That sounds like the committee rates us SIGNIFICANTLY better than the OKs.

Thank goodness that the committee is composed of football people of many years experience and not eye-test players [Pollack, Galloway, even Herbstreit] or IE pessimists. These people are rewarding body-of-work and not just the last game.

Clemson is our best friend. There were boos from the crowd when they showed ND at #4 too. Haters gonna hate.

haters-gonna-hate11.gif

Next week's poll will be most telling... If Ok st beats Baylor, Oklahoma beats TCU... I am curious if they hop Iowa or ND... If they don't.. I feel a lot better as long as Ok st loses to Oklahoma

we can't afford a "playing down to competition" kind of win. 21pt win or better.

Lost in much of the debate is the fact that Clemson will have to beat UNC. That game may be tougher than originally thought as I can see Chizek's defense giving D. Watson a whole lot to think about. Plus Clemson hasn't "Clemsoned" yet.

Yup, and a Clemson win vs NC (assuming NC doesn't shit the bed), and we're sitting pretty as is Clemson. I don't see Bama jumping them if they finish strong.

This Jeff Long guy is speaking my language haha

You couldn't ask for a better set of answers from him:

Top four solid, none most vulnerable, if anything considered moving Bama to #1, 5-8 in a toss-up, and Iowa believed to be firmly better than OSU and Ou. Holy cripes!

He's smoking some Iowa rag weed....

I agree. Beating TCU without boykin isn't as impressive.

Like KCs win over Denver last week...

Glad they are sane on this point. record vs common opponents is like the first tie breaker for all conference champions after head to head matchup.... And it's not like it was close. We dusted TX.

So if oklahoma doesn't jump us after next week, they aren't jumping us at all unless stanford loses to cal.

If it comes out were still ahead of ok next tuesday, well be playing a team in stanford just as impressive as them playing possibly a 1 loss ok state.

This! We have to win out, and we have to have a little luck of the Irish for other teams to lose. If OK St loses and Clemson keeps winning - were in.

By the way, noting the "mighty" [over-rated] SEC: other than Alabama there were only three of them rated --- Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss. Even Alabama braggadocio about "quality wins" should probably stuff it, especially considering impressive bye-week scheduling like Charleston Southern. They didn't play Florida; they beat a one-dimensional LSU exposed by somebody or other the last week; and they lost to Ole Miss.

Alabama is rated highly because of eye-test and not results, and that's because of reputation history and the fact that America loves power over anything else. The jury's still out on ALL these teams. We should just admit it until the bowl season arrives and there is some real data. Even then it's a crap shoot.

Alabama has 7 wins against teams in the top 40 FPI. That's more than any other team. And they will have to beat Florida to win the SEC CG (given they win the IB). Your argument is ridiculous.

A few thoughts:

-Jeff Long saying we are a "solid" #4 is refreshing after 72 hours of IE butthurt pessimism and reading into tweets of random talking heads.

-I really get the feeling that even if OU wins out they won't jump us. We are a solid #4 and we still have to go to Palo Alto. I'm not sure OU beating a hobbled Baylor and TCU is going to trump that. Though winning in Stillwater would be impressive.

-OK State winning out would probably be the thing to knock us out. I'm not sure a 12-0 Big 12 champ can be left out though I'm not 100% solid on that either.

-Alabama is #2 because they've played a tough schedule. Not based on the eye test in my opinion anyway because outside of the last 2 weeks they haven't really impressed me all season. That loss to Ole Miss looks more and more atrocious as the weeks wear on.

-I simply disagree with Jeff Long that Iowa is better than OK State or OU. They might be more deserving, but on a neutral field I think I'd take either OK team over Iowa. I just simply don't have a lot of respect for Iowa. I do hope they drop a game and then win the B1G thus eliminating them from the playoffs.

With Oklahoma and Baylor still to come and Boykin hurt, I'd be surprised if TCU is ranked at the end of the season. Beating them = beating Temple. Then figure Baylor beats Okie State, because Okie State isn't really that good. That dilutes Oklahoma's win the week over Okie State the week after and the Pokes wind up ranked below #15. Big 12 gets shut out on SOS.

In the Big Ten, only one of Iowa or Ohio State is going to make it and I don't know how anyone else does (though Oregon finishing strong would sure help Sparty, if they can knock off the Buckeyes). If they both wind up with one loss I think we're ahead of either.

Clearly we need Clemson to win out and Navy to finish strong. Would be nice if USC keeps climbing and Stanford wins the Pac 12. At 11 now, they should be in the top ten when we play.

So yeah, we've certainly got a clear path but we're also the only top six team that doesn't control our own destiny.

Alabama looks very good and has the resume to prove it. FWIW, I think they're the best team in the country, a loss to Ole Miss be damned.
Yet if they were to lose again, they're done.

Clemson
B10 Champ (tOSU/MSU/Iowa)
SEC Champ (UF/Bama)
ND/OK St

That's how it's going to play out. If OK St wins out, we get jumped. There is no way OK they will jump us. If OK St loses, we control our own destiny.
