This makes the most sense because it's the easiest move. Stanford IMO is going to get swallowed in this new landscape. I get Vandy, they have some momentum in a big conference. But Stanford 🤮worst situation ever IMO
When the megaconference happens, all the P4s that remain somewhat serious about academics (aside from us) are going to be on the outside looking in. They should band together, call themselves the Big Ivy.

Stanford
Northwestern
Vandy
BC
Wake
Duke
Ga. Tech

Maybe sprinkle in a couple of service academies and Tulane or TCU or SMU (is SMU a good school?) to get up to 10 or 12 teams. You could do worse. Stanford would still have a bitch of a travel situation though.

I actually think your idea is a really good one.

I fail to understand the rationale of dropping Ole Miss in the rankings because their head coach is going to leave them in the lurch for a conference rival. Seems like a pile of shit for the kids as long as they keep winning.

I remember when it was the athletic apocalypse the players were going to get paid and be able to move freely. Let's have a look at how it's going:

Mississippi and Louisiana are consistently two of the poorest states in America. Lane Kiffin has a couple of conference championships with Florida Atlantic.

It just means more, I guess.

think it was the independent who said they consider losing a coach the same as losing a player. If Lane cant coach the playoffs, thats a massive massive loss

This is complete bullshit.
also said that is a small factor to why MF was hired so quick after BK left because at that time we still had a small chance to make the playoffs. Ole Miss wouldn't be dropped out of playoffs. But it could result in them not hosting a playoff game.

I could see dropping Ole Miss a couple spots in the seeding if Lane left - it’s not like their resume is so stellar to begin with - behind Oregon and, I dunno, us?

But (assuming they beat Mississippi State) they’re not going to drop out entirely. They’re still an 11-1 SEC team.

I think people are being a bit dismissive of the potential resources Stanford had at its disposal.

Completely hypothetical but all it would take is for less than a handful of alumni from there to want to see the football program improve and they could drop game changing bags on NIL.

I could see Luck making that happen.

Tosh Lupoi a likely candidate for Cal HC job. Doesn’t hurt to have the Ducks have any distractions ahead of the Washington game

Yeah, I just totally disagree. They're not the same team whatsoever without their HC. It does suck for the kids, but this is a ranking system, not a standings set up so it's completely valid. Dropping them out of the playoffs altogether is perhaps too steep, but dropping them out of a hosting slot is completely fair. Especially for a team like Ole Miss which is very low on talent composition and is where they are because of their HC. I mean, do you think Indiana is the second best team in the country if Cignetti left IU this week?

He's gotta stick with college and go the Kiffen route...go win at an FAU type school.

Oh I don't think he ever wants to be a HC again. I think he would settle for a high level OC gig like he had with OSU last year.

What’s crazy about the Terry Smith thing is you are seeing a very organized coup of sorts unfold. The Paterno pin is clearly a play at a large faction of PSU fans and important boosters that still adore him. The speech here is clearly planned to some degree to emphasize that Smith has the locker room. If he has players and boosters? Only the AD is needed…
