I just think the Urban style of coaching will be tough to swallow in the modern portal/NIL. era. Especially with the last vision of Urban being an absolute dumpster fire in Jax. But it would certainly be fun lol

The SEC is definitely wary of hiring a BSU guy after the Harsin fiasco at Auburn.

There also is his deep Christian Faith which is fine, but sometimes does come on a bit strong; so far, per those on his BSU team, he doesn't seem to be forcing it on players or using it as a factor to determine who starts, but it is a thing that some folks don't like about him as a HC.

I would love that honestly. Without Saban or BK there's a dearth of proper villians in college football right now (at least from a Head Coach perspective).
Well, the top two programs are coached by men (Day and Kirby) who are widely despised.

I'm dead serious when I ask this as living in GA makes it impossible for me to know...

Is Kirby actually despised like for real?? If so, I honestly had no idea...sure there is some hate by opposing fans based on his success. But I honesty didn't get the vibe he was universally disliked like a BK.

Yeah, I thought everyone in Georgia loved him. I know they can't stand Mike Bobo.

"Universally" is not a word I used, but when CFB fans talk about the coaches they hate the most, Kirby is as common a name as any. Seems to largely stem from his constant use of fictional accusations to motivate his team (in combination with 700 arrests and zero discipline.)

"They all say you're five-foot-nuthin' and a hundred-and-nuthin'. They all say you've got two left feet. They all say you're little girls but way uglier. They all say your mother is a whore. Nobody's giving you a chance to beat Prairie View A&M, because nobody believes in you! Now let's go shock the world!"

I don't think this would be as much of an issue at a place like Auburn or another southern school, but it could rub people the wrong way if he doesn't win.

I hate Kirby Smart, he's a whiny bastard and I think he allows for an unethical loose atmosphere in his program that leads to bigger issues with the culture at UGA, but I also just hate UGA in general and I can admit that Kirby is not universally hated. He's very well liked by UGA's fanbase too. Dabo was very beloved by Clemson when a few years ago, though the bloom is off the rose a bit now. I don't get the vibe that Dabo is universally hated either.

I can't think of anyone as universally hated by the fanbases of his former teams and the broader CFB world like BK. It's very unique.

First two names that come to mind are Riley and Kiffin. Kiffin has moved that needle away from hate a lot over the last 5 years.

Yeah, that shit is all super obnoxious. The worst was in 2022 when they were in the middle of back to back title runs and he was crying in the media about how no one believes in them.

The thing to remember, though, is Kirby is a UGA alum, and that whole fanbase is just like that. When I lived there it was so irritating. If the media didn't have them going 14-0 and winning every game by 3 or 4 scores (at least), it was "disrespect." They all have this weird mannerism of sort of chuckling and going "guess we'll see if lil ol' Jawja can hang with dem big baws." I saw this *a lot* in the run up to the Sugar Bowl. If a pundit didn't have UGA forcing us into a mercy rule, or (God forbid) picked us to win, it was the same old song and dance. "Heh, guess will see if us po' ol' baws from da south can hang with those media darling wealthy Papist yankees."

Mind you, I lived there when Richt was still the coach and they regularly choked so it was totally unwarranted cockiness.

Yeah, Riley for sure. He wore out his welcome at OU and is fast on his way to doing the same at USC. Kiffin is still hated to this day in Knoxville. Honestly I think USC has had so many clones of Kiffin's tenure there they don't hold it against him. I get the feeling if he leaves Oxford there will be some hard feelings for sure.

I mean....Nobody did, everyone was still jerkin off Saban.

But with all that said....MF out coached him in SEC country and I got to witness it live as one of the best ND moments of my life. I wouldn't trade MF for Kirby or anyone else in the country as I type this.

And mind you, Saban was like 6-1 (with the sole loss being after he had lost like his top 4 WRs) against Kirby so had they played in 2022 and been favored well that would have just been smart business.

They were favored in every game and went 15-0. Everybody absolutely did in fact believe in them.
UGA is 1-10 in the last 11 against BAMA. Maybe everyone else in the country believed in them, but I feel like the whole SEC always felt Bama was going to win every year regardless of how loaded UGA's team was or how well they were doing...it was always like "Wow UGA looks good this year, still won't beat BAMA"

Kiffin, Riley, Franklin, Cignetti, Day, Deion, Freeze, Drinkwitz, Belichik, Dabo in different ways, all before Kirby.
I agree with some of those, especially Deion, but I think what makes BK unique is that he was hated by his own fanbases in a way that Cignetti for example is most definitely not. Franklin for sure was up there.

Drinkwitz I think is generally liked by Missouri fans. Honestly, he's most hated by UF fans because his name gets linked to their opening and they absolutely do not want him.

2022 is the second year of the back to back run. They had just beat Bama in the championship the year before. Again, Bama would have been favored over them on a neutral field but absolutely no one outside of Athens, GA believed Kirby and the UGA fabase's victim complex "woe is me, no one possibly could believe in this lil ol' school in Jawja" carnival act.

Kirby, and UGA fans in general, love to play victim. Kirby stood on the stage in Atlanta after winning the SECCG last season and used that opportunity to whine about their travel schedule. They never left the south! That is Kirby. That is UGA. That is who they are.

Drinkwitz and Kiffin are both heel type villains. Kiffin just comes at it from a coolest kid in school type vibe and Drink is the dorky annoying vibe. I think at smaller schools it works for both, when either gets promoted, we will see.

Please add Matt Campbell, that coward fuck said "winning the Big12 was never my goal". That should make him unhireable by any semi competent team. Just putrid.

Yes, and prior to that 2022 season where everybody believed in them, they finished the previous five years #2, #7, #4, #7, and #1.

This is sports culture in general, now. The "us against the world" bullshit. You get your locker room into it's own little bubble and get them to believe anything. It's really no different than gaslighting and conspiracy theories. These coaches trick these guys into believing the world is really hating on them when, let's be honest, most people don't really give a shit. When it comes to UGA in 2022, everyone was picking them to win it and I'm sure a lot of people won plenty of money on betting them to do so.

They had gone 14-1 in 2021 and won the title. They were heavily favored in 2022 to win it again, did so at 15-0 and played the disrespect/us against the world/nobody believed in us card. It was utterly hilarious as far as I'm concerned.

Their constant stream of off field issues and being in the SEC are why I don't like Kirby Smart. He gives off a Les Miles kind of vibe to me. Just not a fan.

Campbell is a good call. He would be on the list at if he’s at Michigan for sure. He’s a screamer on the sidelines as well. Worse than BK has been in the last decade.
