One of The Athletic articles listed Brian Kelly as a potential hire for Penn State. Which would be something.

No way. He isn’t leaving a football school for a school that has some classroom requirements.

I still think they'll get Cignetti. The fit is just too good. I know IU fans have convinced themselves they're a destination job because Mark Cuban dropped some coin on their team, but Cig is getting long in the tooth and the talent he would have access to at PSU would be appealing because he could win a title there.

Lol yah MSU is too broke to make that payout

MSU has two billionaire superfans, though the situation is complicated by their mutual hatred and rivalry across two different industries (mortgages/basketball), as well as the policies/concerns of multiple professional sports leagues. As of the end of 2023, neither is contributing NIL $, but Ishbia might still be contributing in other ways. Regardless, other MSU alums aren't broke so much as apathetic. We just need one of our wealthy alums to take an interest in sports but not so much of an interest that they purchase multiple franchises.

As a Spartan, I'd love to see Smith get $31 million in NIL funds rather than $31 million to go away.

I don’t see how you raise $50M in a week to hire Matt Rhule. Like thinking about how fast this came together, I think you’d either (a) have to have a verbal commitment from a bigger name (like Cig) or (b) commit to going all out for a top 10 coach in the sport. How else could you justify the firing + buyout to boosters?
I’ve heard that Pagula gave them the cash to buy Franklin out. He owns the Bills and Sabers and gave PSU 81 million to build their hockey barn.

Never say never but I am saying never. No way Freeman leaves the culture he has built and is continuing to build to go to Penn State.

If I was DeBoer I would consider it. He has some temporary relief but he loses another game or 2 this year his seat is going to be hot. And if he doesn’t get canned next season will be a real short leash.

Jumping to the place that just fired their coach 6 games into the season who was a few plays away from the NCG last season seems like an out of the frying pan into the fire kind of situation.

PSU could really piss us off and hire notable alumni Al Golden.

(They won't but its weird to think about.)

Freeman, DeBoer, Elko. LMAO. Why not Kirby Smart while they're at it?
Key seems like a great coach, but his Alma mater would be tough to leave.

Ed Orgeron is available. That would be fun.

Chip Kelly is an east coast guy. Keep Knowles to run the D. Kelly runs the offense. Might be a better gig the the Raiders

I can't see his offenses work at PSU, but you never know. Just seems like it'd be an odd fit. Chip Kelly ran the fastest offenses I've seen at Oregon. Blitzkrieg. Deboer has a better chance to win a title at Bama than PSU. No way I'm leaving. Key is interesting and may be attainable. Could see it going down if they target him. Firing Franklin now proves they are serious about trying to win a title.

I think this is right, it would need to be incredibly lucrative. He’s in a good spot at GT. The goodwill he has there is night and day with what he’d be dealing with at Penn State

It’s Rhule. You’ll hear a bunch of other names mentioned but Rhule will be the next coach at PSU and everything else is just noise.
