They need to stop extending the coach so early in the existing contracts. It only makes the schools look stupid. And I am sure there some that work out bout overall I bet not so much.

USF gave this guy an extension after he went 2-10.
He was 4-26.
This is inexplicable to me.

Sometimes I wonder if the extensions are even adding to their salaries. Half the time extensions are just given to encourage recruits to stick with the coach because the school is sticking with them....Don't perform and they will still fire them though so I'm not sure if the extensions are really fooling anyone at this point.

He also only ever beat 1 FBS team -- Temple. All other wins were against FCS squads -- Howard, Citadel, and Florida A&M. Yikes.

If nothing else an extension would increase the buyout to fire them, wouldn't it? Otherwise, if there's no raise involved, why would a coach even sign one?

Yes and no. There are likely escalators on both, but sometimes the extension keeps current both or may make the school have more favorable terms. Recall Harbaugh issues two years ago.

Scott Frost’s extension lowered his buyout as well, IIRC.

I think it lowered it after a certain date...then they fired him prior to that date and he got the full buyout anyway.

I've read up on him a bit today and that dude has way more baggage than I thought he did. He has zero chance of ever setting foot at ND as an employee.
The guy never had a losing season as an HC. Just a total chooch.
Manny Diaz, Rich Rodriguez, maybe Randy Shannon. USF needs someone who has been an HC before. Hire some Florida guys on the staff to recruit.

The whole thing is a disaster. Saturday as an interim? It will be interesting to see what they say at the presser tonight, is this just a placeholder thing, or a tryout? The BEST move irsay could make is Harbaugh, but I somehow doubt he goes with the slam dunk… guy is too coked up to even know what decision to make…
