Has ND indicated a plan for a new DC? Assuming an internal promotion? Candidates galore being snatched by others.

I don’t think ND is worried about a big name because it will be Freeman’s system and any “name” DC will want to do their own thing and personally get credit for any success.

I personally hope its Elston. He and Freeman obviously have a great relationship and mutual respect. Elston has been a great ambassador for the program and is a heck of a coach. Even if its in name only, and the pay raise that would come along with it the guy has earned it if it he wants it.

Somebody was interviewed the other day. I'm hitting up a couple of insiders on Twitter to see what they can find out. I would like to know myself.

I guess you could somewhat call it outside the box or adventurous but to me just odd hire for Oregon haha. No idea if that’ll work out

I agree - it does seem a bit odd for a DC form SEC to Oregon... but, he could have pretty good success - enough to be that one step on the rung to get him moving up.

I am. Their fans are the worst. I don’t want hear how they got a CFP win before ND. That’s all they will brag about even if Bama beats them 100-0. I want them throttled by Georgia.

Agreed. They'll be even more insufferable if they win a playoff game.

I'm afraid Alabama exposed them as a paper tiger. Also, Michigan is really good.

I predicted Michigan would beat Ohio State. And they did. I think they can beat Georgia too.

Yet they barely beat 5-7 Rutgers, should have lost to 3-9 Nebraska and PSU and lost to MSU. I would not say they are really good. It depends on which team shows up. Hopefully they will have a letdown after the big win over OSU

While I understand that ND may not feel the need for a "name" coach, being a good recruiter is the other part of any hiring. Thought it was a good move by PSU to bring in Diaz. Has a decent reputation and probably knows Florida HS football.

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

ND could have easily been 8-4, but they aren't. The results matter. After Michigan lost to MSU, they had a hell of a November.

Diaz is going to be interesting because he crashed out of Texas hard and made the most of his second chance at Louisiana Tech. He parlayed the one year at Mississippi State into the Temple/Miami job. I'm curious to see what kind of defenses he'll call in the Big Ten.

I'll say one thing for James Franklin, the guy can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag, but he can hire coordinators and recruit to mask his deficiencies. On paper this is a pretty good hire, but I think Diaz should get another crack at a head coaching job in the P5. He did Temple dirty and Miami did him dirty. Lesson learned.

With Elko leaving for Duke, Houston giving Defensive coordinator Doug Belk a two year contract for $1 million annually (up from $500,000) proves to be pretty good timing. He's a rising star in the coaching industry.

Very interested to see who Mighty Jimbo hires to fill that vacated spot. Some Derek Mason chatter, which would be hilarious.

Maybe Jimbo promotes from within?

I think he promotes from within, similar what ND did with Lea. They want to keep the same system in place from what I have read.

UGA recycling Muschump, unbelievable.

Really? Can’t wait to watch both him and Kirby going crazy on the sidelines together. They always looked like they could be brothers.

edit - Didn’t realize he’s been on the staff this year already.

this is a truly interrogative, not argumentative question.

You indicated hiring Mason would be hilarious. Ironic, or wrong?

I have always felt (with scant observation and data) that Mason was a fine defensive coordinator At Stanford and this year at Auburn.
