auburn isnt bringing the private jet to give Tom some negotiation leverage. Theres mutual interest.

Auburn is going to come with heat whoever they go after. Don't blame TA for interviewing at all, but not going to over-read the mutual interests aspects. Jet has nothing to do with it IMO. If a big time SEC program calls, any coach at a mid/bottom P5 would be stupid not to answer, and at minimum go through the process and listen.

calls and flying a jet to indiana arent the same thing though. They have already went through the phone process at this point.

its also a good method to leverage a new contract from your existing employer

Point is, why would any young coach (not at a blue blood), not talk on the phone, and go through the process (which would lead to the jet). Just not smart career wise to shut them down even if not interested.

Not saying there isn't mutual interest, but this is just a guy doing what he should do regardless.

In this case Allen is in the first year of a 7/$3.9 contract.

Interestingly, his buyout is the full remaining amount on the contract.

Is Auburn really going to drop $50 million for Tom Allen (buyout plus new contract)?

That would be insane

Buyout is evidently much lower. I don't understand how they get from the 17.5 million up to the 23 million in the other tweet.

Auburn paying gus 21m to leave and having to buyout Allen at 23m i think shows this is serious. If A) they havent already been given the OK to eat 44m to hire him B) there wasnt legitimate reciprocal interest from Allen, they arent even getting on a jet to travel to bloomington.

I mean, their season is done except for a minor TBA bowl. Their jet is likely paid 100% by the yella fella. ESP is over for them for the most part. They got some time now, and aren't worried about dollars. Hell, they'd send their jet to recruits if the rules allowed it.

Agree. They already ponied up big $$ to fire their coach, at this point $$ isn't a thing.

Sounds like Cristobal is staying in Oregon.

Mario Cristobal gets a new six-year, $27.3 million contract at Oregon. Cristobal’s six-year average salary of $4.55 million will rank fourth in the Pac-12 and be only $450,000 behind the conference leader, Utah’s Kyle Whittingham ($5 million). His buyout increases to $9 million from $8 million.

Cristobal is 24-9 in three years at Oregon, including the five games in 2020. The Ducks will be playing in their second straight Conference championship game. This year's recruiting class is ranked 6th nationally, 2020 was 11th and 2019 was 7th nationally. Each led the Pac 12 rankings.

The Ducks have the youngest roster in FBS. Its 110-man roster in 2020 consists of 81 underclassmen (freshmen, redshirt freshmen and sophomores), making up approximately 74% of the team — the highest percentage in the FBS.

Auburn will never have sustained success. They have the wrong attitude and approach. Barkley and Dye both tried to get the powers that be and the fanbase to see it and change, but it ain't happening. They get one good year every once in awhile and then run right back home to mediocrity every time. In their entire history they've only had back to back 10 win seasons once, and that was way back in the 80's. There will NEVER be sustained success there until they change... and they aren't going to change.

This. Their history says it all. They just get hyped as a power because they play in the SEC and they get the occasional win against Bama since it's a rivalry game.

Allen seems like an all Indiana guy... I was kinda of hoping he’d stay at IU until Kelly leaves, then come here...
