Any chance Dabo goes to the NFL? I’ve seen some speculation on Dabo/Lawrence to Jacksonville. Obviously it’s all speculation. Seems like this would be a perfect time if he has any NFL aspirations. If it doesn’t work out he can head to Bama when Saban leaves.

Bielema to Illinois is a good hire. I always liked that guy.

I am skeptical, only because Illinois seems to have a history of going to the recycling bin rather than forging out and getting their own guy. Sean Lewis or Lance Leipold seemed like they should have gotten interest. Maybe they did, but this looks like it was done PDQ.

I will say, I read on Twitter that Bielema immediately made a call to the president of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association and made a very good first impression. This gentleman claims, on Twitter, that he's never spoken to Lovie Smith prior.

From what I can gather of Illinois is any football tradition they have has long since passed and there really isn't anyone around who cares about the program (where is their Clark Lea alum candidate?). The talent seems to be going to Wisconsin, Iowa and the elite recruits are going to elite programs.

It's a very good academic school and their location lends itself to digging into IL, IN, MO, KY.

He's going to need to hire a really good OC.

I don't know what to think about this hire. I get that he's a relatively young, up & coming coach, but he sure isn't a big name, top tier coach whose hire is going to generate chills & thrills among the Auburn faithful. I think most of the Auburn fans had no idea who he even was until today. Supposedly there were MAJOR divisions within the Auburn power players over which direction to go and who to hire. Harsin may well be a safe compromise hire. I don't think he's a bad hire, just ho-hum, we'll see.

Boise State's situation is a total shit show. They don't have an athletic director at the moment. Harsin wanted them to leave that cconference. Rumors are they were asking the AAC about membership.

Napier and the Clemson lieutenants probably told Auburn no. Sarkisian is going to be picky about his next move, so Auburn's search firm probably directed them to Boise.

Some murmurs here in Dallas that Cowboys OC Kellen Moore may be headed to alma mater Boise State as HC. Would be a logical choice for them if he's game.

Jeff Choate at Montana State would be another guy to consider.

Andy Avalos, Oregon's DC, is another guy who is easy to connect.

Maybe he’s Auburn’s Pete Carroll. Wasn’t Poodle the 4th choice or so back when they were interviewing folks to replace Paul Hackett?

The local paper in ID reported an email Harsin sent to the admin urging them to find another conference b/c the Mountain West wasn’t committed to football.

Be careful what you ask for b/c the SEC definitely is committed to football. Some would argue that’s all they are committed too...J/K...kind of. Auburn is very Boom or Bust but he will still be held to high standards b/c the last four HC (Jekyll & Hyde though they may have been) either led Auburn to an undefeated season (Bowden & Tubs), won a NC (Chizik) or played for a NC (Gus).

Gus beat Bama 3 out of 8 times. They’ll expect that as a minimum from Harsin. The SEC now only includes one coach who has defeated Bama....Coach O last season. Crazy.
