What’s Day’s record against teams with comparable or better talent?
Very good, he's won 8.7 out of every 10 games he coached. In 2019 he beat 3 top 10 teams and lost the Natty by 6. In 2020 he won 2 top 10 games and was blown by Bama in the Natty. So in short, ya.....he stacks up pretty well. His kicker fucked him against UGA as he would have easily smacked TCU to win a Natty.

So how many national championships is that?

Ryan Day took over Ohio State on the back of Meyer being put on admin leave for protecting a wife beater, then after Day's first season he had to deal with Covid bullshit.

He's lost 10 games and 4 have been to Michigan. That's the problem.

I understand what you are trying to say, but come on.....We both know how silly of an argument that is. Say Sonny Dykes pulled of the Natty against UGA, would you seriously consider him some world beater coach?? Dude has gone 26-13 at TCU in 3. Your thought process is IF he'd have gone 27-12 he'd be considered some great coach.

Correct.

However, when you consider that Tressel and Urban both won one and did very well against Michigan, this is what Day is up against. It's a really high bar.

It was interesting listening to College Football Enquirer Podcast yesterday. Pat Forde was talking about how he sat close to the Day family during the game and his daughters were sitting there crying as the game was winding down. Even before the game was over, they new that the way it was going that things were not going to be good. It's disgusting that this has an affect on Day's family, but that's real pressure. It may be time for him to go, as difficult as that decision may be.

Ya, I guess.

I started feeling like I was crazy so I asked my buddy (First time I talked to him since the loss as we love our teams so much we don't bust balls when they lose) what his thoughts are about Day (2005 OSU grad)....and he responded "I hope he's fired before the playoffs"

More of a sarcastic comment than anything. My point is ND has a really good coach who keeps getting better and has put this program in a spot to compete in the CFP for the foreseeable future. There is no need to look elsewhere when we have a coach that is doing everything he can to take ND to the top and has proven results in the three seasons he has been here. 22-4 since the loss to Caleb in the Coliseum with a first round home playoff game. Extend Freeman.

See that worries me, because IMO it's obvious that MF would be on OSU's very short list.

Oh I agree, and all this Ryan Day talk got out of hand. It was more if OSU fires Day....and they take Freeman from us....if Day ended up at ND I wouldn't think it's a bad hire. This is nothing more than message board talk, but if we lost Freeman and needed a HC and Day is an option....Who's a better one at this point?

“Comparable or better talent,” not Top 10 wins. Indiana was a Top 10 win but they and Ohio State are not comparable talent. (I forgot Indiana was also ranked 9th when they played in 2020.)

Looking at how they’ve done against other heavyweights…

Day’s had Penn State’s number, for sure. He beat us twice, but both were close and the second time we handed it to them. We know about Michigan. Couple losses to Oregon. In playoff games he is 1-3.

Given the talent up and down that roster, I don’t find that especially impressive?

I’d say he fucked his kicker. OSU was moving the ball and had time, yet, as soon as they got to a 50 yard fg attempt he sat on the ball. Keep pushing forward and try to get that 50 yard attempt to say 35 yards. That kick would have been good if the attempt was 48 yards.

There aren’t many and Day definitely has a proven track record. Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point where Freeman would leave. He’s done so many positive things for the program and has learned from his early mistakes. As a lifelong ND fan, this is the best I have felt about the program since 1993.

I say winner of the JSU vs WKU game Friday gets the WVU job.

Jimbo Fisher's name coming up in a lot of the op eds for WVU. That's an interesting one.

Dan Mullen is the new Jon Gruden, too.

Yeah, my buddy from WV has been hyping up bringing Jimbo there for some time. I don't get the appeal, other than he was born in WV. He struck gold with Jameis Winston, and outside that he was pretty mediocre to bad.

Hiring Rich Rodriguez again is a better move than hiring Jimbo. Barry Odom even makes more sense, too. Silverfield from Memphis.

I'm sure it's just for shits and clicks, but if they're actually considering him, they deserve what they get.

Does Jimbo stop receiving those $7M payments if he takes another job?

I can forgive the game day thread for shitty takes because of alcohol and emotion. But on a Monday morning are people really suggesting Ryan Day as a coach at Notre Dame?? You should all be banned without prejudice and may god have mercy on your souls. Did you see that dimwit do nothing when that melee was going on right in front of him? It’s going to be a long ride in here until the 20th.
Listen, buster, we start dark and early around here!

FSU making some major staff moves. First Malzahn as OC, then Tony White as DC.
Matt Rhule's most significant hire at Nebraska. He could be losing additional staff as well.

These are bold strokes they're making. Doesn't mean they'll work, but it all looks good from a team that completely hit the brick wall a year ago.

Interesting. This hire means OU is likely going to throw it more.
