Gotta be Chad Glasgow of TCU. They run a 4-2-5 and have the only D in the conference currently... but I'm not a subscriber.

*Oops. I have to start remembering Iowa State has a football team now. Heacock does run a variety of D's and he's an Eastern Ohio guy. He's done a good job there but PLEASE give Lea/Elston the co-jobs

Both Glasgow and Heacock are DC's who handle the safeties btw.

.

Glasgow has TCU in the Top 20 defenses, which is pretty impressive in that conference. Never really coached anywhere but TCU, aside from one bad year at Texas Tech. Any idea how he recruits?

Nope. I'd puke if he was hired. As I would if it's Heacock.

The best answer is in house and bring in Coach Meat before Mich St hires him.

Isn't that kind of an indicator that he would represent some stability, though? The older he is, the less likely that he leaves for a different job for the sake of resume building.

We're not worried about him leaving. We're worried about him coming.

No recruiting chops. He's the guy you hire when you have Jimmy Lake, Demtrice Martin, Autry Denson and Donte Williams already on staff and he can sit back like HH and cherry pick the top of his personal board.

I thought there was tension between Cooks and BK?

I think it's inviting bad blood to effectively promote Cooks over those staff members who have stuck with ND. It sends the message that they should leave if they want to advance their careers.

I hope they are doing this because they believe Lea is THE GUY and not for short-sighted continuity purposes.

Can I ask why? That's just pure stats against 9 teams in a free for all conference with little defense. TCU is inside the top 20, and ISU 31 in advanced stats. Pretty good considering the offenses they played.

Agree not sold on Heacock. But TCU guy?

Nvm. Clark it is. Now go recruit that six-star inside linebacker of ours to come back.

We know he's keeping the system consistent.

We know he's gonna grind on the recruiting trail.

We know he can coach some really good LB play.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO

Total Defense (Rankings):
Iowa State - 43
Notre Dame - 46

Turnovers Gained:
Iowa State - 50
Notre Dame - 50

Tackles for Loss:
Iowa State - 16
Notre Dame - 58

Sacks:
Iowa State - 65
Notre Dame - 83

Does this mean Heacock is a better coach then Elko? No. Heacock isn’t a terrible coach and represents stability. I understand who we would prefer but doesn’t mean that person wants to come here.

Remaining questions:

1. Is he co-DC with Elston.

2. Are they run defense / pass defense coordinators?

3. Does Elston just remain Asst HC / DL?

4. Does Lea stay in control of LB's and hire a Safety coach?

5. Is he DC only and they hire an LB coach and give safeties to Lyght?

Oh I'm glad it's Lea. My point was, he showed a table showing defensive stats from the Big XII and said no. Like what kind of argument is that, when both guys being discussed had their teams playing a high level of defense in the Big XII which is remarkable.

I’m glad it’s Lea. Guy seems genuine and likeable. Good for consistency and relationships on the recruiting trail. I’m satisfied with this hire, I don’t think he’ll be overwhelmed at all.

So what's everyone's honest thoughts here?? Safe move with little downside? How's the upside and what do we really know about Lea in total?? Appreciate anyone's input.

It's what I hoped for. Hopefully they can hire Demetrice Martin (Coach Meat from UCLA - not retained by Chip K) before MSU hires him as the safety coach and another killer recruiter.

My guess is Lea will keep control of the LB's, if he doesn't get Wake's LB coach Brad Sherrod and give the safeties to Lyght.
