Ehh give me a guy whose a young up and coming coach and who can recruit, that's another thing about Ash I don't see him as the type you send into someones home to recruit

Al Golden was not known as a dynamic recruiter. If you have to make a choice, choose Xs and Os when it comes to coordinators.

Hell no you don't. I picture Ass as the type that would leer through the window and watch your family play Yahtzee. Not the type you bring in to use your bathroom and share a meal with. I'll bet he has to deal with a lot of barking dogs.

Yeah well that's why I'm saying give me someone whose got X's and O's and can recruit, Golden at least could fire guys up? Look at Ash do you really think hes firing up guys wanted them to play for him?

Right now I'm hoping that Ferentz retires and Phil Parker shakes loose.
You better hope he comes with a schedule that includes the horrible Big Ten West offenses.
He's 62 years old and he's been at Iowa since 1999.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with that staff when Ferentz eventually does retire. A lot of those guys have been there for long periods of time. Exception and not the rule in this profession, that's for sure.

Talking to my dad today about the upcoming game and seeing how depressed he is made me think about all the older ND fans that just want to see one more natty before they die. Yes it’s morbid to think about but Fuck you Kris Ass for ruining one of the remaining seasons they have left and fuck you for probably taking a year or 2 off their lives by watching this shit. Piece of shit!

I feel ya. Although, I don’t recall expectations being as high as they were immediately after the NC game. We knew we‘d be breaking in a new QB so there would be growing pains. Then the loss of the spine of the D would be felt…just didn’t expect it to be felt to the extent it has been. I was thinking next year would be assuming they a RB by committee could at least be solid.

But then we starting hearing about ND being a Natty contender & the hype train left the station. I bought in, too. Now, I just hope it doesn’t devolve into 2016 type season. The mods should probably hold off on a post-game thread for a few hours this Saturday. It could get ugly & the bickering usually elevates after a loss…so I can’t imagine how it will be after 1-3 start.

ND fans would dislike Parker too. When he plays anyone with a pulse on offense, they give up a lot of points. Doesn't like to recruit, and is as stuck in his ways as Ferentz. It's a bend, not break defense that works vs Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, (old) Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, and Illinois.

If it was like 4 years ago I’d be into that. Now it kind of just doesn’t matter. ND is getting these kids like O’Brien and Adams now because of the packages they’re putting together plus the Freeman effect.

It’s the pre-NIL SEC model - outbid then send in the old ball coach to schmooze the family.

Tell your dad to make it to January. I have a feeling they are going to fix the defense, sneak into the playoffs and win the championship.

I heard the difficult meeting they had in the defensive room this week ended with MFMF bringing out a cardboard cutout of BK in a kelly green speedo and for each win they get to put of piece to cover him up. Rumor is there's 13 pieces with the last one to cover up the speedo. So yeah, the boys are motivated.

There's a lot of models a program can pursue. I like the one we're on now. And I think (as long as we are playoff-competitive) we can occupy a fairly unique niche as a program that recruits at a high level and then develops players over time and maintains a strong culture - a rare thing in the NIL/transfer era.
But it does require our leader-of-men head coach to be backed up by schematic geniuses at both coordinator spots. Even if it might feel in the moment like our talent and culture can withstand settling for "some guy." And this seems like the second time in three years we have settled.

We really good be scary good in January if we just get back to some form of last year's defensive efficiency. I feel like Carr and the receivers can only get better as they get experience and build chemistry, this offense is already clicking better than I could have hoped in September (Knock on wood).

Should we start dreading Ash trying to defend Navy’s triple option or will it be too late by then & we’re looking at a 2016 redux? Golden gave up 34 pts in his first meeting vs Navy as ND DC & it wasn’t a comfortable win by any stretch. Love MF but he continues to take two steps forward and one step back.

Pretty sure there was already a Navy comment 5 pages back or so. It might get ugly.

Not to dampen the mood further but it is going to haunt me for the rest of my life that I will not be able to celebrate my first ND national championship with my Dad…cherish every game you have with your loved ones even if we are giving up 45 to Arkansas; at the end of the day there is an inherent beauty in being able to watch ND football!

When Ash was hired, it was a head scratcher. I don't remember anyone being exited, as it felt like salad on Thanksgiving. And here we are, no surprise to anyone. It was a terrible hire by Freeman, let's see how he responds from his mistake.

I agree with that. I’m just saying we don’t need stud recruiters as coordinators I’d rather X’s and O’s dudes in those two positions.

Me and my dad went to every playoff game last year and it was awesome. We were also at the 2012 title game. One of these years we will win it all but just hope it’s sooner rather than later. With the players coming in our window is now. Just need good coaches.

My dad passed last year but got to take him to ND in 1997 for the opener/stadium re-dedication & then again in ‘99 when a bad ND team beat a bad SC team in bad weather. Thankful for those memories.

Listening to Trey Biddy on Arkansas 247 pod and he echoes what we ND fans have all asked, “What the hell had Chris Ash ever done?” Called him one of the most overrated coaches in CFB & it’s hard to argue that. His one anomaly was a NC at OSU. So he didn’t screw up a situation where he walked into one of the best defenses in the nation...congrats. And sadly, when he’s no longer at ND; he’ll find a job somewhere else b/c coaches take care of coaches.

One more natty before they die?

Brother, I’m 34 years old and I’m hoping I get to see one before I die!
