We can assume that the Sox have received calls about Cease, right? He's making $5.7M a year right now and goes to arbitration the next two years before becoming a UFA in 2026. I can understand why they want to keep him and the delusional thinking that they'll be able to fix this so they can contend for next year, but if you're looking at truly doing another reset you have to look at your best assets and what is going to bring back value in return. Dylan Cease is easily that in terms of pitchers.

I wish they could trade Yaz for something worthwhile.

Based on what the Rangers gave up for Mad Max, my demands for Cease would fall somewhere between Fuckload and "funny Saudi Arabian money's worth of prospects."

They should be listening to all three. Baltimore is the obvious choice. They'll get more out of Cease than Verlander or Marcus Stroman. It makes so much sense on paper.

Just a matter of how badly they can screw Rick Hahn in the end.

As much as I love Jake as a fan favorite and the heart of the team this year, his numbers don’t lie. 5th worst OBP and 6th worst SO % in all of MLB minimum 300 PA. Getting Marlins #1 prospect at least to fangraphs. It’s sad that I think 5 of the top 8 Sox prospects all just came over in the last week. No depth ever in the minors. Always rinse and repeat

Exactly. They now have a system of A and AA pitchers that the Dodgers, Angels, Astros, Yankees and Marlins were willing to part with.

They have no depth because they can't draft. This is the rebuild of the rebuild. They should have gone out and filled the weak spots after 2021 in an effort to keep the Central and go after Houston in the AL playoffs again.

You improve from a position of strength in a division that is absolutely winnable year in and year out. Get your postseason bites at the apple. This is not the philosophy of the organization, however. Nobody ever gets fired and nobody ever leaves, but they don't win anything. You have to wonder why this is.

Two catchers and pitching ended up being the return for Lynn, Kelly, Burger, Giolito, Lopez and Graveman.

Disappointed that Moncada is still here. They could have really gotten a big time haul for Cease if one came along. Maybe nothing got dangled in front of them that would have been worth it, but that could have been a major game changer. The Sox won't catch Oakland, but they can catch Kansas City for last place and the second overall draft pick most certainly now.

Offseason plans: They will really need 2-3 starting pitchers. You got 1.Cease, 2. Kopech, then really nothing. I'd do the following
Sign Julio Urias to a 5 year 125 million dollar deal.
Sign Alex Wood to a 3 year 50 million dollar deal.
Take a Flyer on Montas 2 year 20 million dollar deal.

Can’t figure out what’s wrong w/ Urias this season. He’s looked dominant at times but has gotten lit up more times than not. Definitely his worst season career-wise. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s pitching through an injury(ies).

On another note, Lance Lynn pitched decent in his Dodgers debut. Definitely an innings eater but like most Dodgers pitchers gives up a lot of gopher balls. Gave up 3 last night vs the lowly A’s

Good thing about next year is we won't have 45 million tied to the bullpen use that money savings on starting pitching

Next season you have Cease as a starter, and Kopech as a can't figure it out, and that is it. SP is going to be a disaster if they don't spend.

Kopech sucks. If the strike zone were water, he couldn't hit it if he fell into Lake Michigan. He's garbage.

If they expect to contend in 2024, it is hard to comprehend the paradigm shift that would need to happen between right now and spring training 2024 in order for that to happen. They have a horrible farm system, a core that isn't any good and injury prone they want fans to believe in and they don't spend money. The biggest contract they've ever given out is Andrew Benintendi. Think long and hard about that for a moment. He's a guy. He's no better than whatever they have in Triple A

I don't know who the hell is running this team. Rick Renteria got bounced and he had a reputation for developing young players. Jerry hired Tony LaRussa when his GM (and Kenny) wanted A.J. Hinch. They did nothing to expound on the 2021 season, got rid of LaRussa again, hired someone from the Kansas City Royals and their window has now closed. The individuals who broke this, rebuilt it, then broke it again are all still here. Rick Hahn is going to continue to do this as long as he wants and be snide with reporters knowing full well that anywhere else....ANYWHERE ELSE....in sports and he's out of a job.

This team sucks. They are telling us they're bringing back the core next year and expect to contend. They've never been to consecutive postseasons in their history as a franchise. Why should anyone believe anything they say? Shame on anyone that purchases a ticket from this point forward. I wouldn't take free tickets right now. There's no point.
