Sox have not announced a starter for tomorrow and cleared a spot on their 40 man roster. Interesting.

Have to give Kopech the care and support he'll need. It's about as common of a procedure as there is these days. Dunning will be back first, there is money to spend this winter, Kopech will be back for 2020.

Great result yesterday. Lopez pitched pretty well and they lost 1-0. Keeping pace with a Top Five draft pick.

This team needs bats in the worst way. 13/15 in the AL in OBP, 12/15 in the AL in OPS. Who in that lineup yesterday is on this team in 2019 and beyond?

Tough to say for that lineup, but have to figure that
Anderson
Moncada
Avi
Palka
Anderson
all make it.. I would say Engel will be as well.. If he is hitting 235 and playing outfield like that he will be saving you runs.. He has looked much better the 2nd half at the plate as well. I think Sox go out and sign someone like Gio Gonzalez. The Kopech injury seems very very odd. Why didn't the Sox spot start someone, or start a reliever when you knew it was going to rain going into the start and be delayed.. Why was Kopech sent back out after the delay? Makes me mad.

Who do you think spot starts tomorrow? Cease?

Best guess is the 40 man spot is for Nate Jones.

Covey pitched one inning on Friday. I'm thinking it has to be him.

I just saw my buddy who is a scout for the Sox.. He told me Cease/Dunning/Hansen etc would all be competing for 5th spot.

This all goes sideways now with Kopech's injury. These guys probably aren't coming around until the end of 2019 regardless of that, though.

The guys who could stand to benefit most from the opportunity to START the 2019 season would be Stephens, Guerrero and Adams should they get protected this winter. Cease, Dunning and Hansen would all come down the line.

Burdi could be in the Bigs by midseason, and that's huge for them if it winds up being the case.

Third overall draft pick. Eloy is working on his defense this winter. Dunning is coming back. Arizona Fall League coming up for a lot of their guys.

Saw Zach Burdi threw some innings right at the end of the year. Surprised he came back that late, but it looks like he'll be back in the fold as well.

Should be an interesting winter for these guys.

Recent White Sox Draft Picks:

Jake Burger: Blew up his Achilles. Twice.

Zack Burdi: Just came back from major surgery. We'll see come spring training. They have Hamilton, Burr, Johnson, etc. that will compete for pen spots and did not cost a first round pick

Zack Collins: Walks are there, power is there, defense behind the plate is not. He's going to turn 24 and he seems to have stalled in Double A.

Carson Fulmer: Bad as a MLB starter, bad as a Triple A starter, he's now a reliever. Polarizing draft pick at the time and he's checking more negatives than positives.

Carlos Rodon: Bit of a roller coaster season for him. The good was good and the bad was bad. Big year coming in 2019. He's going to have to put it together for them to go anywhere as a team.

Tim Anderson: I admire his work ethic, especially when it comes to his fielding. 20 HR/20 SB this season. Is there any ceiling left? Offensively he is what he is, but he appears to be their shortstop moving forward come hell or high water.

Courtney Hawkins: Played 88 games for the Sugar Land Skeeters and hit .285/.342/.505 with 54 runs, 17 doubles, 18 home runs, 72 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. Got signed by the Reds in August. He turns 25 next month.

Chris Sale: Traded to the Boston Red Sox for Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe, and Victor Diaz.[

The White Sox have declined James Shields' option for 2019. Picked up Nate Jones' option.

Expected on Shields.. I don't doubt they offer him some kind of 1 year deal, wth 2nd year team option. He's good for logging innings with these young guys.. Could be needed to save this pen as it develops. I was one of his detractors, but last year and the end of 2017 changed my mind on him. He showed some signs. He seems like a fantastic club house guy too.

They need to move on. His presence is a reminder they gave up Fernando Tatis Jr. to acquire him.

I like the Ivan Nova trade. They didn't have to give up much in return. He essentially replaces James Shields as the innings eater and he's cheaper. They need one more spot filled on their rotation.

They hung onto Stephens and Thompson yesterday in the Rule 5 Draft which is big.

I'm not buying the Bryce Harper hype. I don't see Jerry Reinsdorf signing off on that.

Ill agree on the Nova trade. Not bad at all, low risk etc.

These winter meetings were uneventful. I think Sox have a better chance at Machado then they do with Harper. I don't think in the end we sign either though. Just keep building with the studs we have in minors. Eloys time to shine.

I don't like it..

If Machado doesn't ink here, the move for Alonso and Jon Jay, are not impressive

If he doesn't sign, those two guys still hold down spots on a short term basis and provide veteran presence. That's exactly what they should be looking for right now. They didn't give up anything to get Alonso and Jay isn't costing them big money.

I've grown to like this club and what they've been doing. In a way, I sort of hope they don't get Machado. I think they could build something without him if they keep going in the direction they're headed.

Still, they have the money and should be trying to get him. And Harper. Why other teams aren't is bizarre.

I want to hear from Rick Hahn. Kenny Williams does nothing for me. He thought they were getting Machado. He thought they were getting Torii Hunter fifteen years ago.

Wow.

Padres have a stacked farm as well. What they don't have is the hitter friendly ballpark he's going to play in 810 times. The White Sox have that.

I can't say I'm surprised Machado is going to San Diego. They are one of the few teams out there who are trying to win.
