This seems to be the perfect place for me to say this:

Hawk Harrelson is a damn Saint! And to all the Hawk haters... "I wish I could cuss".

I love Hawk for what he is, OUR homer. For someone who lives out of market, he sounds like home. I loved him with Wimpy, I hated his pairing with DJ and I love that him and Stone Pony can somehow fit their gargantuan ego's in the same stadium at the same time. Speaking of Stone... love, like or hate Stone's broadcast style, he's the best color guy in any sport. He's never wrong.

Back to Hawk, I compare him to the Astros' jerseys of the 70's. Everybody else in baseball knows they suck but Houston fans are proud of them... because they're loud, obnoxious and theirs.

I know why Cubs fans and division rivals hate him or think he sucks. They should, he's a huge homer. But it's pathetic when random pretentious baseball fans act like he's some sort blemish on the game of baseball. The man has forgotten more about baseball then 99.9% of the population knows about the game.

He was okay with Wimpy, hated him with DJ and I could listen to him call games with Stone Pony until the day I die (I enjoyed listening to Stone even when he called Cubs games).

If Hawk would've retired 10 years ago, it would have been awesome. As a kid, I used to love having a homer announcer that went overboard for my team. However, he is terrible now. Way past his prime and ready to be put out to pasture.

Agreed. I really don't care what others say. Unless I'm talking to a Dodgers fan I just say... "Who's your guy? Never heard of him" I love listening to him and Stone talking about baseball from my golden era, the late 60's - early 70's. Plus Stone was on my favorite team of all time, the '77 Southside Hitmen.

Hello Mr. ozzman. You've got a call on line 1. There's a Mr. Scully from Los Angeles on hold who'd like to talk to you about announcers having "a prime"

how could you get that upset over an announcer? I will never understand.

I don't get upset but there are great ones and bad ones. FEW great, many bad. If Hawk called it quits tomorrow, I'd pray that they could get John Rooney back from the Cardinals to do TV with Stone. I loved him and Farmer on the radio, planned my 3+ hour work trips when they were calling games. They are right up there with the all time greats for me.

Rooney was awesome. I watched the 2005 WS championship game at the United Center and was glad that they piped in the radio call to hear Rooney's last game with the Sox. Still miss him. Farmer and DJ combo is so bad. I'd rather listen to Hawk and his 10 minutes of dead air.

I was sitting at a tiki hut bar on Kauai with 4 strangers from Houston praying like hell they lost game 4. I had a ticket for game 5.

No such luck.

so close to seeing a series game! nooooooooooooooooooo!

I went to 45 games during the 2005 season and then 3 of the playoff games. Such a great summer and fall. I remember being at the Bush Push game and then listening to sweaty freddy throw in the alcs against the halos on the drive home to Chicago. At least it was a good ending to the day after that miserable ending to the ND game.

Funny, I watched both games that day with a big group of ND / Sox and SC / Angels fans in Scottsdale, AZ. Like you said, It ended well at least.

Great sports day.

Crusader - I totally agree that some are awful and hard to listen to but, baseball isnt exactly a game you have to listen to either. But to say some guy sitting in a both providing a service to the fans is a blemish on the sport is insane.

I'm tough on announcers and I'll tell you why.

I grew up on the Indiana / Michigan line. We would get Ernie HArwell calling Tigers games out of St Joe, MI at 11am. Brickhouse and the Cubs came on at 1pm and when that game was wrapping up, Harry's pre-game for the Sox games was starting. This was a daily ritual in the early 70's for us. I grew up with the best. I was fortunate enough to live in Cali this year and got a full season of Vin Scully.

After those 4 MASTERS, the list is short on what I think is good announcing. Hawk and Steve Stone, John Rooney, John Miller and Joe Morgan, Charlie Steirner and Rick Monday are very good too, Rick Monday especially so. Greg Shulte who does the DBacks radio is awesome. Besides that, I'm pretty much done. There are far more robots out there than artists. Paint me a picture Mr. Announcer. Tell me what to see. It's a dying artform for sure.

Rooney and Farmer were a great combo, but Farmer and DJ, ugh. Love Hawk and Stone Pony, but Hawk and Wimpy brings back the memories.

If I knew how to put it on my profile I would.. Love the moves they are making, hoping for another lefty bat to protect Abreu.. Still a lot of talk on Masterson and Melky. I interned at Sox in 04 and the guys I know who still work there say they are far from done.

Don't have any inside info, but I don't think they'll go for Melky.
I see them going after Masterson if they can somehow flip Danks.

Maybe Danks for Ethier?
Then sign Masterson to a one year, rebuild your stock, deal.

Eaton (L)
Sanchez (S) or Johnson
Abreu (R)
LaRoche (L)
Garcia (R)
Ethier (L)
Ramirez (R)
Gillaspie (L)
Flowers (R)

I think I'd really like to see Conor in the 2 hole, but it'd be a really balanced line up!

I got a legit question. What happened to Dayan Viciedo? I remember a few years back, he was expected to be a terror with the bat. Now it seems like the Sox want to ship him. He's only 25, so I don't see why he can't improve.

I was hoping he and Abreu would be the Latino bat bros. for the Sox.

He can't run or field and he only has an average arm. He has power but can't get on base consistently. The Sox have seen him enough to know he won't develop into a more complete player. He has some value to other teams b/c he's young and has some power.

100% accurate.. His fielding is suspect. The Cuban Bash Bros would be Alexei and Abreu.. Alexei hits for 20 besides 2013 and is consistent for his small frame. Everyone forgets about Avisail Garcia.. His bat will not go unnoticed in the lineup this year and he is finally healthy.

I constantly remember Avi, but I appreciate his overall game over just his bat. He's very good with his glove and his bat. I'm kinda disappointed that Viciedo didn't pan out, since he had a lot of raw power. If only he had the technical prowess of Abreu, he'd probably be a second Abreu. Can you imagine this team with two of those? Good lord, every pitcher in the league would be shitting themselves...but alas, it wasn't to be.

I can't believe they tendered him this year. Supposedly they're in serious talks with mariners to move him. Hope they can get something MLB ready for him

Still a lot of chatter here in LA about Alexi going to the Dodgers and they put Greinke's name out there as a possibility.

Kenny Williams wanted Greinke back in '12. Is he worth the 4 year $94M the Sox would have to pay?

Also, love the pick up of lefty Dan Jennings from the Marlins for Rienzo Gracie the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master. Jennings appeared in 47 games last year with a 1.34 ERA.

That's what I'm talking about!

Any of you guys on White Sox Interactive? They're even grumpier than the worst posters here.

Tough call. He's 31 but he's been good the last two years in LA.

Sale, Greinke, Shark, Quintana and Rodon(?) with Coop coaching them is tempting.

That is death row right there. No team wants to deal with that on a consistent basis. That being said, who would be our SS?

Who-zay Cares-raccas from Venezuela. He'll be able to play without a glove behind that rotation.

Looks like the Sox signed Melky to a 3 year deal. Excellent work Hahn. I now expect playoffs. No playoffs, no Ventura in 2016.

Completely rebuilt the team in two years without giving up a top ten prospect, sacrificing long term financial flexibility, or losing 400 games in the process.

Hahn Rules!

Love to see them dump Tank and sigh Ichiro on the cheap.
4th outfielder/Eaton running into a wall insurance.
