When home attendance dips below 15,000, and they rank last, it won't be a good look though. Gotta give people a reason to go for the present. They are bad enough to lose plenty of games without a full steam ahead tank job, no need to exacerbate it IMO.

*Keep the Crosstown Cup to at least give the SS something to feel good about for a week

Is there really any joy in finishing 81-81? Put yourself in the best position to win a championship. If that means being really bad for a few years, so be it.

They have the sweetest stadium deal in MLB as far as I'm concerned, so I seriously doubt they're worried about it with all of the payroll they're shedding off their roster after this year.

Their two highest paid players walk at the end of this season in Frazier and Cabrera, one of who could be going to Boston within days for all we know. Third highest is Robertson and he's likely gone too. They sadly have Shields for 2018 with a club option for 2019 that I seriously doubt they're going to take because he's turning 36 in December and is awful.

If they can trade Robertson and at worst see Frazier and Cabrera walk at the end of the season, they're right where they want to be.

I love what this team is doing right now. James Shields lingering around for another year is really the only lasting reminder of the old mentality of "win now" this franchise was stuck in for far too long. Truly a fantastic job from a rebuild sense. Now we see what happens in the next five years.

I don't know if I agree with this. Most Sox fans know what they are doing, and tickets are so cheap they are doing better in attendance than one might think. They are averaging about 21,736 a game right now, and last years World Series runner up, Cleveland is averaging 23,229. Yes that isn't a huge number but I don't think you are going to see a drop off especially when they start bringing up some of these young guys, people will want to go see them.

Correct. Some of them are close. Moncada, Fulmer, Giolito and Lopez are all in Triple A right now.

Serious question since I don't know about much of this side, especially for a team I don't follow: Why would you say the White Sox have the sweetest deal compared to everyone else?

Big Game James laughs at that.

Lopez will be the #1 ace in this group that will come up. He is our future Cy Young candidate. Absolute beast. I posted my projections for 2020 lineup, he is taking mound for opening day starter that season.

Forgot about that pay from SD. That contract is a joke.

Along with the fact that Fernando Tatis Jr. is ripping up A Ball in Ft. Wayne. He was part of that trade.

Shields was the last mistake the White Sox made. Everything since has been solid at worst. That one is going to haunt them a little while longer, sadly, but he'll be gone by the time they're good again.

The amount of payroll coming off these books is really something. Look where they were five years ago compared to now. Opening Day 2018 and they'll be right where they want to be.

Really impressive stuff here.

I agree, lot of big money coming off the books.. They can operate skinny while these guys develop, then when they hopefully look the part, start fishing for the big free agents who can help put you over the top.

Reports that the Todd Frazier to Boston trade was held up because the player Boston was sending to the White Sox didn't pass the medical portion to complete the trade. Back to the drawing board.

There is a reliever involved with this as well, possibly Kahnle. Not Robertson from the sounds of things. Yankees are said to be interested in Robertson.

If Rick Hahn can flip Robertson to the Yankees in addition to Frazier and a reliever rental to Boston, you really can't ask for much more from a general manager. At 38-52, they're well on the way to a top five draft pick.

Any rumors of who it was? I can't find anything on that. Robertson makes sense in NY. Interested to see who we would get in return. Rick is working hard. Its good to see that hopefully all his red tape has been moved aside to let him do work.

Currently sitting #3 pick if season ends today.

I don't know that it will be made public. I haven't seen a name, and I'm assuming that it would have to do with medical privacy?

The goal should be to try and catch the Giants and Phillies in the loss column. They need distance between themselves with the A's and Padres, both of whom look to be pretty bad in August and September.

If the Sox move Robertson and Frazier, it's going to be a suck fest. Then they have to hit on the pick. Collins has been dreadful defensively and at the plate. Carson Fulmer hasn't done near what they want in Triple A. They have to start hitting on these first round picks they get to go along with everyone else's talent they've acquired by trades.

I'll stick to your logic about not using BA.. Collins has a .820 OPS. .376 OBP, 12 HR, and 38 RBI He is doing ok at the plate, except for his strikeouts, which needs to stop.

OBP would be equal to 8th best in AL currently, and OPS would be good enough for #12 in AL as well.

His defense is getting better.. He has thrown out 41% of base stealers, which in todays MLB would be best % of all catchers. Read this article.. He is doing way better than you think he is.

There's no logic to ignoring BA. It's common sense. In your BA a HR is worth the same as a single. It's archaic.

You can't equate Carolina League numbers to where he'd be in the Majors. It doesn't come close to working that way. To your point, he has a hitch in his swing that is causing him to not hit for a high average, but his strength coming out of The U was his power and plate selection. An OBP that much higher than is BA is a really good sign, so
with that so far so good. If he keeps walking at a high rate, the strikeouts can be lived with. If the walks stop, then there is a problem. Power seems good, but again, it's the Carolina League (park factor?). One thing we know is The White Sox play in a hitter friendly park, which will be good for Collins.

How he hits in AA is going to be critical.

Defensively, I feel silly telling you that there is more to the catcher position than throwing out base runners. He's clearly improved with that, which is great, but his overall mobility and quickness are going to be an issue until proven otherwise. Is his framing improving? Can he call a game? Framing is a big deal now thanks to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Russell Martin. It's a viable skill catchers need to be very good at to up their value. Until they get robot umpires, anyway.

That bat, though, if that keeps coming he could wind up at first when all is said and done.

Boston's front office would have received chemical castration as punishment for making such an ungodly stupid trade.

Wish we would get this over with already. Frazier to Boston is all but sealed, Robertson appears to be leaning towards the Bankees.

This is reaching Everest levels of escalation. Seems like Red Sox and Yankees are in a bidding war for the whole package. Whoever wins this deal likely has the inside track on the division and sets their pen up very nicely for the playoffs.

The Yankees have more to offer as far as prospects. I hope the Bo Sox don't move Devers.

No joke I've seen Gleyber Torres mentioned multiple times, but it seems like a package centered around Blake Rutherford/Jorge Mateo seems more likely. I've also seen Justus Sheffield thrown in there, also.

Bottom line is that it seems like a guarantee that we're going to get at least two top 100 prospects regardless of whether the package goes to Boston or NYY.

How p!ssed would the Cubs fans be if we ended up with both Torres and Jiminez???

Also, it appears that the Cardinals have begun to show SERIOUS interest in Avi. I'm all in on the "trade Avi" bandwagon as who the heck knows if he can keep this up the rest of the season, let alone in future seasons. If STL is willing to pony up the prospects to snag him, take the money and run.
