Which puts them back to square one.

Williams is Poles' guy. Poles hired Johnson as HC. If they scrap Williams after two years, that probably means Poles has to be let go. Now Kevin Warren has to hire a new GM with the HC in place that was hired by the previous GM.

It's like a sock in a dryer that keeps falling the exact same way during a cycle.
Poles was just extended this off-season through 2029. They have no intention of changing course, which is reason enough for people to say "Same old Bears."

I think the only curse they have had the last 40 years is getting mediocre to poor quarterback play when it’s the most important position in all of team sports. I have seen franchises with a long history of poor performance quickly change fortunes when they get a superstar behind center.
Says a lot when you consider Williams had one of the better rookie QB seasons for the Bears in their history, if not one of the better seasons for a QB at all, last year.

Monday night had plenty of blame to go around for why that game ended up the way it did. Williams was a part of it, but so was every other aspect of the game.

Yeah. Just a brutal run for them at the position. If he ends up being the real deal a lot of problems just disappear. What’s your confidence level right now for him turning into a top 5 player at the position?

Top Five?

Lamar, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Tua, Hurts, Goff, Herbert block him out right now. He cracks top five, a lot of problems disappear for sure and with this defense healthy a few good things likely appear. Only two of those won a Super Bowl.

I guess I'm not so much concerned about him being a Top Five QB. Can they get to a Super Bowl and win one is the biggest question I have. It's the only question. If he has to be top give for that to happen, that's not a great scenario.

He's played one game under Ben Johnson and it was against a Brian Flores defense. As much as all of that felt familiar and hurt on Monday, I don't want to throw my hands up into the air and give up on it all after one game. That being said, there was a lot of the same old same old which leads me to believe we could be walking down a similar path of Fields and Trubisky.

Williams was promised to be in the Lamar/Mahomes/Burrow/Allen (maybe Hurts) level. He better be better than Tua, I guess I'll take Goff and Herbert but it would still feel gross.

The number of missed throws and straight-up not throwing to the open receiver is WAY too reminiscent of Fields and Trubisky. I'm pessimistic, but I'll give him the year. He has to leave no doubt he's the guy by year's end. Which is wild to stay considering this is his 2nd year.

He turns 24 in November, which I think still makes him younger than a lot of guys still in college rolling on the extra Covid year and NIL deals.

The previous coaching staff was bad. That's why they're gone. We find out about Caleb and this coaching staff soon enough, I guess.

The lack of a running game is very concerning. I don't question Jayden Daniels' talent, but the Commanders were third in the NFL in rushing last year. That's incredibly helpful to any QB let alone a rookie. Even Maye and Nix were on middle of the pack rushing teams last year.

It didn't look like there was much there Monday night vs the Vikings.

I think I recall seeing a stat, but CW's completion percentage when not blitzed was over 80%, and when blitzed, that number plummeted to about 42%.

Dude has an issue with pressure right now. I don't know if he's still seeing ghosts from last year and getting mollywhopped game in and game out, but he needs to strap on the proton pack and start busting ghosts, because if he can't throw when blitzed, he's not gonna make it.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to throw when you have a great running game to back you up.

With Caleb, it's basically all on him. Save a few fleeting moments from Swift, the run game was basically non-existent. That can't continue.

Minnesota started running the ball when everyone KNEW they were going to run the ball. That's the mark of a squad.

Caleb Williams has to carry his own weight, but so does everyone else. The OL penalties, the weak run game, the defense faltering in the fourth quarter and above all coaching.

There are other fellow Indy natives, so I can’t be the only one. I’ve always disliked the Bears because they are always on TV.

Can I just get a different team other than this shit hole? Lol. Or I guess I could just buy the NFL ticket.

I was born in Anderson, and am old enough to remember when there was no team in Indianapolis. My whole family was bears fans way before the Colts ever came to town in the Mayflower semis.

Why do teams I like consistently get screwed over by incompetent to borderline corrupt officiating?

Tired of watching games where the studio ref is saying “yup, refs screwed that call up.”

Me too man. People wonder why I’m a Dolphins fan. Same reason I’m a Red Sox fan. Dad plugged that in me early.

Same reason I’m an Irish fan too, actually. IU basketball however came from Grams.

I hate this team.

I hate this football season. We're 3 weeks in and my teams have yet to win a single goddamn game.

Kmet reception late in the 4th to cover 20 yards receiving on the day to fill my SGP that included Detroit ML. WTF was I thinking not taking a +13.5 alt spread on Detroit.

Williams shows a lot of signs of never being very good in my very unqualified opinion. To think we could have kept Rome and Penix together, sigh.

It was only 1 game, but man, Caleb Williams looked REALLY good in this game.

300 yards on 28 passes. 4 TDs, 68% completion percentage. Just an excellent performance.

Also sticking it to Eberflus. Fuck him.

Even better after that golongtd series that was clearly sourced primarily from Flus and last year's coaches.

You know Goodell, the NFL, and ESPN are all Bears fans this week. Beat a bad Raiders team this week, go into the bye, and everyone will hype the ever-loving shit out of the Commanders rematch on MNF.

The Indianapolis television market is so thin-skinned.

Why do they black out every single Bears game if they play as the same time as the Colts, or choose a game played by teams way further away than Chicago is?

Didn't realize they did that. All blackouts suck.

MLB blackout system in particular is just brutal.

Shocked that they won that game.

That had "typical Bears anti-clutch loss" written all over it. Caleb didn't play great, but like he has before, he clutches up when they needed him most.

Difference this year is that the ST didn't let that effort go to waste, despite the best effort from the defense.

This is definitely not a good team. They have HUGE issues up front. They can't run the ball and they can't stop the run.

But baby steps. This is a major improvement from last year.
