Thank god I wasn’t able to see this today. I was randomly checking the score and updates on X and we went from being up 14 with the ball inside the 5 to almost tied. Thats probably the worst football played by the Irish since A&M last year. Definitely some positives to take though with Walton having a coming out party. If the defense cleans this up and it was just a weird weather game I feel a lot better where we are. Hopefully this is t like UNC in 2014 when we won but they exposed BvG for the first time

Nobody exposed anyone

It was poor coaching on the offensive side that put the secondary into prevention mode

The defense looked great when they were a part of complimentary football

I thought the defensive scheme was very vanilla, likely thought they would get more consistent pressure, and didn’t expect Edwards to be as accurate as he was when he did have time.

Moore is going to be evaluated
It was hard to what actually happened to him beyond colliding with a much larger dude. And once he got up, he jogged off moving both arms just fine.

Weather was terrible, bunch of weird stuff happened and they had a kickoff return touchdown. It was the perfect recipe for an upset and still there was probably only a few minutes of game time where it felt like they might actually lose
What minutes were those?
UNC needed a goal line stop, an almost-unrepeatable 97-yard drive, and then a kick return for a touchdown to make it even briefly close. Then we took back over.
We were always going to win that game. Though it’s one we easily lose in many past years.

15 straight wins by double digits ties for #2 with the 2008-09 Florida Gators and two away from the 2001-02 Miami teams.

The running game is gelling and I think the depth chart will be Walton/James/Williams.

Was not pretty and we faced some real adversity for the first time in a long time. Game got within 1 and we responded beautifully. A long, soul crushing drive, a 3 and out, and another long drive, a 4 and out, and another long drive. We shrunk the game and choked the life out of them.

Our WR corps is rounding out with Faison, Greathouse, and Gilbert. If the rushing attack continues its upward trajectory the offense will be deadly.

Onward.

Not awful but not great. Statistically dominated the game.

UNC had 3 drives over 74 yards.

But no other drive over 17 yards.

So basically 33 plays for 246 on 3 scoring drives.

17 plays for 31 yards on 6 other drives.

Weird.

That kid is a gamer, I'll tip my cap to him. His experience and age showed as he wasn't rattled easily.

I’m not so sure the defensive performance is on Ash. I thought the secondary just didn’t play well. In particular, I thought Shuler played like shit. In general, I didn’t think the secondary had good eyes.

The scoring plays/drives were thanks to 1.) Shuler being poor in man coverage on the TE, and 2.) The boneheaded penalty on Ausberry.

Not saying Ash is completely blame free. I just don’t think this group of 18-22 year old kids were up to snuff today.

Off days will happen. Better to happen in Chapel Hill than Provo in two weeks or against Miami in a month.

One thing I would’ve liked to have seen on defense is more double mug blitz. Send more than what they have protecting and force Edwards to make a split second decision.

You can't win them all unless you win them all.

We may have finally found our RB1 and rediscovered our run game.

But, there's a lot to clean up.

1. Jonaz Walton should be RB1
2. OL played great today and didn’t give up and pressure or a sack
3. Defensive pressure sucked. That ain’t gonna cut it against Miami. Need to do more movement on the DL and get pressure even if it means bringing multiple people into blitz
4. Shuler was rough today
5. Special teams a big F

If Ausberry doesn’t get the personal foul and Shuler doesn’t fall asleep in man coverage, the score is more likely around 37-13.
