Cancer Sucks

Fellow IE members, let me tell you that cancer sucks. As some of you may have read from a post I had put up back a couple of months ago, one of my brothers in law had been diagnosed w cancer. He continues to battle it every day and I truly believe (as does he) that he will beat it. We have in fact made a pact to ride the Trek Across Maine again next summer as a way to celebrate his victory.

To go along with this, my step daughters father is battling brain cancer, and he will soon be going into hospice care. Needless to say, my step daughter is devastated. This is not the whole reason I write this post tonight.

At 4:00 this afternoon, I received a call from my younger brother. It was a call I hope none of you ever have to receive. He was letting me know that my next oldest brother (18 months older than me) was diagnosed today w pancreatic cancer. It has already spread to one of his lungs. He has been suffering in pain for a few months but hadn't been to a doctor until last week, when he went in and had some blood work. Results looked ok, but doctor said she needed a CT Scan to figure out what the mass was in his abdomine. Now we know. The initial prognosis is grim.

Tomorrow I'll take him and my mother to the hospital to meet w an oncologist. It doesn't sound good. At this point in time my wife, my stepdaughter and myself all have blood relatives that are battling cancer. This disease sucks. Please say a prayer for my brother, my brother in law and my stepdaughters father. We need some miracles. God Bless all of you and God Bless my family.

Keith,

I'm sorry to hear of your family's woes. One incidence is terrible. Three ...

I wish I had some words to ease your pain. Our thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Cancer really really sucks.

I had an architecture class once and the architects working on Ohio State's new cancer hospital were talking about how the doctors, in their meetings, discussed building the hospital for a post-cancer world because they were pretty confident that the building will outlast cancer's time. That made me smile.

I lost my father to an acute leukemia when I was ten. Agent Orange, smoking, and owning a road construction company will do that to you. My sister got a lymphoma four or so years ago, but beat it. Tomorrow I have a low-key bachelor party for one of my best friends whose mother (a vegan marathon runner) was diagnosed with a pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver; he juuust got out of the Army from Aghanistan and he and his fiance moved their wedding up to this Saturday because his mother doesn't have a lot of time left. Cancer ****ing blows.

Lost my Mother when I was three to breast cancer.
Lost my Sister and Uncle when I was 25.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that eventually touches everyone in some way.

May you, your family, and friends be filled with loving kindness;
May you, your family, and friends be healthy and strong;
May you, your family, and friends be free of all dangers, internal or external.
May you, your family, and friends be filled with the ease of well being.
May you, your family, and friends be happy!

Please keep this prayer and use it. It works best if you insert one persons name at a time, (instead of you, your family, and friends), ending with "I". Keep yourself strong man. I send this with all my love and good intentions.

Go dtuga Dia a shealbhú tú gar, agus tú a choinneáil ina chroí.

Cancer surely does ****. I was diagnosed with colon cancer two years ago. Surgery, radiation, two sessions of chemo treatments, and two years later I'm still posting on IE. I hope I live long enough to see the disease defeated by science. In the meantime, keep the faith. We will one day defeat this dreaded disease.

Prayers for you and your family. Cancer stole my father away from me before I was a man. Still wonder what it would have been like to sit down with a beer and have a man to man with him. Many years later now, my mother is fighting lung cancer. Let them know you love them.

Coming from a cancer survivor, never give up hope, not for one second!

This post is coming to you from an actual cancer survivor who was given a 30% chance of survival......that was 26 years ago.

Prayers for you and your family.

Another survivor here. I was lucky, had a very treatable form, but the treatment blows.

The sh!t sucks.

Prayers sent for you and your family bro. All you can do is be positive, pray, and fight.

I've lost my mom, grandfather ann aunt to cancer. My daughter just celebrated her first cancerversary and I have been cancer free for four years now.

I know what you are feeling and will remember you and your family in my prayers. If I could give you one piece of advice, it is this. Treat this like it's just a bad case of the flu or something like that. You and your family should continue your normal routine as much as possible. This will help you keep some sanity during the battle which you and your family will win.

God Bless.
