The upside is Freeman and ND are better after a game like this. Sadly all Freeman teams have required a wake up call. We are better hunters than being the hunted and are better as the underdog bs the favorite. Yes Freeman looks like a bitch now for passing on the bowl game and I think it was a strategic miss in his part. He could have used some Mentoring from Lou on that. His facial expressions were negative energy the whole game. Like last year if we win we’re in! Big if at this point. BTW BYU will probably lose 2 if not 3 games. They shot their wad and their luck against us.

Greg from ISD has been going off on Mike Brown this morning. He said Brown has done a really bad job of developing the WR's since no one else can see the field outside of Faison, Gilbert, and Greathouse. Also talked about the portal production since they brought Graham in to play but Brown doesn't play him.
Really wish I knew what the deal was with Graham. I remember Ohio State fans saying there’s a reason they were willing to let him walk when he signed with us and thinking it was cope at the time but ?????

Other than Utah they look like pretty huge favorites against the rest of their schedule until the conference championship game.

I was just thinking this. Brown should be on the hot seat and replaced IMO. Fields was already a built product when he transferred, Faison has twitch you can't teach. I'm not entirely sold on Gilbert either, his routes look predictable. We had to fight for every single catch last night

Disappointed. Not necessarily in the score but the way the Irish played.

  • ND waited for the game to come to them. No aggressiveness on D and no aggressive play calling on O.
  • Nothing unique in the game plan for this game on both sides of the ball. And what they did, they didn't even do well.
  • WRs missed several balls that were on the money (although that sideline catch was nice). Same 3 WR played the entire game-sigh... Can we not find anything with the others?
  • Out-coached on both sides of the ball. Settling for FGs?
  • OL provided good protection.
  • BYU did everything they needed to do. Long drives, converted red zone opportunities, played aggressive.
  • The players of the game were Bachmeyer and their LB transfer. Nobody on ND stood out. Even Talich, who i thought played well, missed several tackles.
  • Not digging the officiating. No holding calls despite watching BYU TDs with OL hugging D players. The last second fiasco was a cluster. Despite this, BYU owned the F out of the Irish on both sides of the ball.

Back in the same position as the last few years.

No, it doesn’t. In that world ND will have gone 31-5 over three seasons, with four of those losses to top 10 teams, elite recruiting, and we’ll be entering a 24 team playoff era where 10-2 is an autobid for ND. You’d have to be crazy to fire him unless shit goes way off the rails—ND’s navigating a very rapidly changing era of college football about as well as anyone.
I responded to this in another thread, but I didn’t articulate it very well, here. After 2016 BK was told that he was going to need to make a major staff overhaul. I do think that while MF’s personal seat is not hot, he is absolutely going to be forced to make major staff changes going forward. He’s going to (hypothetically) lose some of his leeway to manage his staff as he sees fit.

Undefeated seasons just don't happen very often and when they do, there are always a game or two the team "stole" or should've lost.

It just sucks that we lost to this particular team and their online fanbase. Also, the narrative that ND can't win the big game is bullshit. We're just one full season removed from winning three playoff games.

Bummed over that loss. Don’t know much about schemes or play calling but we looked stupid from my couch.

So I searched this quote out:

“I feel that I am the only one in the stands that understands, clearly, that I have no real idea what’s going on out there.

“I see the people in the stands that think they know what the coach should do, and what he should call, and I have no real idea. I just root and pray and hope we win, and I feel bad when we lose.” - Dave Casper

We lost on the road on the last play to a team that’s about to be ranked #2 or 3 in the country and we can point out a million ways we should have won the game. I personally think BYU was a tough opponent and played very well. And I’m still pissed at our mistakes costing us the game which gives me hope they can be fixed. The talent is there. Put asses in the right seats and LFG. It should be an absolute nightmare for Miami coming into South Bend in November. We’re pissed and are only fans. I’ll assume this team is very angry moving forward. We hung in to the very end. Don’t give up the ship just yet.

  • Traore- did you want to play tonight? Why act like a thug and blatantly late hit the quarterback?
  • Moore- if you’re hurt, get off the field. You looked like you were stuck in mud and hurt your draft stock
  • Ash—it’s too damn complicated and you leave the middle of the field open on their final touchdown with a rookie covering their best receiver? We’ve been diced up the middle all year. Shuler, who appears hurt or something else going on, should not be blitzing
  • Denbrock- it’s too predictable. Slot fade does not work 90% of game with small, average speed receivers. Where is the pin and pull? Play- action? Screen game?
  • I don’t know who to blame for substitutions but the same 3 receivers should not play nearly every snap with the low oxygen levels and wasted reps for run blocking. Obviously, Walton should get more carries.
  • Freeman- dude you got to get into the game. Quit jotting notes. Get in your coordinators’ faces. Bitch at the refs when calls are close like the snap play and the final play.
  • Carr- you got to quit staring down your target
  • Landow- we do not show any explosiveness nor power. Our most stand out player is a freshman running back whose dad is a powerlifting coach. No one has developed athletically in 3 years. Where the heck was the inside knowledge on acclimatization from your time in Colorado?

Can we beat Miami? Absolutely. But not playing like we did last night
Quit the hype- walk the walk- and get ready for the final 5 games

Everyone shit in me the other day for saying Moore hasn't been playing like a first rounder
The secondary has been lucky this year in many cases. Other teams dropping balls or just absolute blown coverages and the qb missing them.

I know we struggled but any idea why Georgia lost by 3 to an unranked school at home and dropped 3 spots while we lost by 4 to a top 10 school on the road and dropped 6 spots?

Think they read IE and how people said that Freeman is a disappointment.

My soap box glass half full message not directed at you lol - Nothing like complaining about the media bias and then feeding directly into it by shitting all over the team when it's still competitive sports played by 18-24 year olds. Sucks they lost, sucks they had some calls go against them, but they keep knocking at the door and they'll push through. Freeman has elevated probably every position since taking over (except probably TE?), no reason to think the talent won't keep improving. Vegas doesn't set lines based on emotion, and they love ND.

You really struggle to know why?
umm yeah. csare to enlighten? Are you arguing that we sucked much worse than Auburn? Or that losing to BYU is much worse than Auburn or maybe it is somehow easier to lose on the road or homefield advantage is overrated. Or are you going the route that duh, the media is always biased towards the SEC. I truly continue to struggle despite your elaboraste explanation.

You dont think Georgia fans emote when they lose? I couldnt imagine just being rah rah come win or lose mentality claiming we love our team so much and I fully trust they 100% make the best decisions for the program.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. ND has a kicker
2. Anyone on this team who has the option to leave early for the NFL- they shouldn't
3. Anyone on this board could've passed for 400 yards on our defense last night; that includes MacIrish with Denbrock as the OC
4. I understand the call on Traore, he should've been on the sidelines pumping up our defense
5. ND needs height at WR and a new WR's coach
6. Hire Mike Mickens as the DC for next season we know can recruit and coach
7. Go 5-0

Buy Week Thoughts:
1. Someone, anyone on this team, needs to emerge as a leader

Go Irish!

I’m not by any means an optimist when it comes to my favorite teams (I know right, would’ve thought it) but the only thing that isn’t making me throw stuff in anger (besides marijuana) is knowing we played that game like shit, we game planned like shit, and called shit plays yet the game still came down to the last play on the goal line and we arguably got a bad no call that didn’t go our way on the road. Meanwhile the team that will be number 1 went down to the wire in OT at home against an unranked team. If we can tighten up (and we have done it before in 2024 but we have also let it ruin our potential season in 2023 & 2025) we can still make it in & maybe if the cards fall the right way avenge this in the playoffs en route to the ultimate goal. Especially when many other top 10 teams fell this weekend with maybe only one other team that can say they lost to another playoff team. That all being said I’m getting a bad vibe that this is going to be like the 2014 FSU loss or the 2023 OSU loss where it just put us down in a state of mediocrity which isn’t a good look after the stand we took after missing out last year.
