For those of you who keep saying bvg is fine here is some facts. How can a Wisconsin defense with a bunch of chumps hold LSU to 16 points and we can't even hold Texas to that. Wisconsin since 2014 has had 3 defensive recruits rated 80 or higher on ESPN.

I think that the defense will improve some once Watkins is back.

Can it get any worse? The whole defense was terrible. We helped a true freshman look like a Heisman candidate. We couldn't stop the run when we knew they were going to run. If I was the offensive coordinator of anyone else on our schedule, I'd be drooling over the yardage and points my team could get against Van Gorder's defense.

All I kept thinking about last night, bomb after bomb, was Tate Forcier. Different styles, same results. You can put numerous average to below average QBs in the category of looking outstanding against ND's defense.

It's likely to look MUCH better, once Kelly realizes that DeShone Kizer is his guy, and sticks with him. Then the offense can put people in a hole early, and turn them one-dimensional. That will help this Defense out A LOT. It still won't be all that good, but it will look good enough that some of you will be declaring that VanGorder is, indeed, a gangsta!

Maybe.

But it's a lot easier to hold a team to 14 points (even 1 TD being scored by the defense and the other being set up by a defensive turnover), when the opposing QB should be a backup...on a high school JV team. LSU's troubles at QB and on offense overall have been well-documented.

Maybe Wisconsin's defense is good (it certainly has been in the past), but Saturday's game isn't a shining example to use at all.

Maybe Brian Kelly is the next Dabo Sweeney. He just needs to pay top dollar and go out and find a top DC.

LSU doesn't have a QB that's reliable and their O coordinator is a joke.

If the defense is still floundering after Stanford, get rid of him with the bye week coming up. Hand Gilmore the reins and let the chips fall where they may until the season is over.

Dave coordinating is different than position coaching, but Gilmore's DL were awful last night too. Bullied by some kids with crowd noise on their side.

...Had I not known the recent history of Dbacks...I'd have thought what I was seeing was edited video...like someone was messing with me...hardly a move or shake from Texas receivers...they'd freaking run right by the ND defender...it was surreal. Had Texas not had a Freshman QB, they'd have been up by 30 not 17. You can't possibly be in college, at any level, and be that bad...can't be. These guys are decent enough athletes...what in the hell are they looking at / thinking? Its like the longer they are in the program the WORSE they get.

...one dimensional "throwing it" is not advantage ND from what I've seen over the past few years. Those guys couldn't cover me, much less a D1 receiver. Awful...head down, smh, awful.

Just so everyone watching the FSU Ole Miss game is aware, Ole Miss is breaking in two true freshman safeties. Any guesses on how they look compared to our shit show?

I'm pretty sure they actually just 'broke' one. And that was great coverage if that was one of the true freshman

To be fair, we can't keep up with the salaries in the SEC. I mean, why else would an elite black player choose a mediocre school in the worst state in America where fraternities still think it's OK to do things like this:Ole Miss frat suspended over noose on statue of black student - CSMonitor.com

To be fair the kid that had a few long bombs, also dropped one, is a world class sprinter who is probably faster than Will Fuller.

To be fair, ND could easily match those salaries.....

ND 's endowment is about the size of the bottom 12 SEC schools combined. If paying players became legal and we decided to play that game, we'd dominate most schools. Stanford would still be a game.

No we wouldn't notre dame has already came out and said that if the NCAA allowed school's to pay players that they would end their football program or make a new league (something like that i think)

Nobody would do that at ND, in all likelihood, but then there are hardly any non-athlete black students at ND. (This is apparently used to recruit against us.) In other words, there is nobody to do this to.

Yes we played press coverage and got blown passed almost every time.

Right...if you are going to press...for hell sakes you need to be PHYSICAL on a guy for the first 5...he needs to look like he was in a bar fight. I mean why the hell else do you give up a seven yard cushion to a guy they KNEW was a speed demon to stand next to him if you aren't going to hit him in the mouth. You press to beat the shit out of someone...and yes sometimes you get beat...ND got beat in press, got beat in cover 3, got beat in every way conceivable...and that dude was NOT beat up.

Oh, I know that but at least he does have *some* experience as a DC and the players seem to respond well to him. Besides, how much of that was on Gilmore's coaching and how much of it was on how BVG called the defense?

Bob Elliott has a good resume' but he has his health issues. Regardless, if it keeps going like this there needs to be a change. Shoot, one of the squirrels on campus could probably call a better game than BVG.

We weren't even getting our hands on the receivers playing press coverage. We should have backed off early and forced them underneath. It took the opening of the second half to make BVG realize they better give a cushion.

BTW.....What happened to Tranquil?
