My favorite thing about Van Gorder is his attitude and the attitude he's given the defense it seems like they are just flying around having fun not overanalyzing everything and being afraid they're gonna mess up. I believe you need attitude and the ability to just have fun in order to be a great defense.

Its not just his aggressive nature, its the type of pro-style aggression he brings. Anybody can lineup and get after it but his blitz packages are straight football porn.

Perfect example is the blitz to end the game.

I'll also add that an under the radar aspect is him being on the field vs being in the booth.

I agree on this with VG and other high energy DC's but if Diaco had been on the field i can't imagine it would have helped maybe even hurt. I'm not hating on Diaco he made the defense much better than what it had been i just like a guy with more emotion and your right him being on the sideline is definitely a plus imo too. I also love his blitz packages too you never know where it's coming from.

Yeah. And it's not just this, but the college game (with all the restrictions on practice time, contact, meetings, and the kids at least supposed to have class and assignments) is better suited for this style of play. Let the kids play. Don't oversaturate them with information to process.

I think Reece Davis called him uncle Rico last night at halftime of the Utah game or on CFB Final. Anyway it pissed me off. It's ok if we want to call him that, but not that helmet. And seriously, the Mark May thing is so effing ridiculous anymore. We get it, you aren't sold and nothing stirs the pot like hating on the Irish. It's just so over the top and he is such a scumbag about it. I know I shouldn't get mad about it, but damn it gets old. Mayock is giving me diabetes too. Can we just get Brady Quinn and Tommy to call the games already?

I think he uncle rico references are hilarious, and it means BVG gets more press which leads to credit for his dominant performance.

Also i'm probably in the minority here, but I can't let Mark May bother me. You do realize that he is to us what Lou Holtz is to the rest of the country with the blind bias. Its really just a schtick that ESPN throws out with the love/hate ND thing.

I said similar earlier. Love all the Rico press we get. May is a tool for ratings, nothing more.

Actually BVG's scheme is far more complicated than Diaco's. With Diaco you just had to keep everything in front of you and don't give up big plays. BVG's system is not players flying around with no purpose. There is a method and madness to what he does. It's complicated and complex but he has the ability to teach in a way that his players get it. The one thing I've noticed this season is opposing QB's looked very confused at times with our defensive looks. We do a great job of disguising our looks.

It's funny that Rice (our only Powerless 5 opponent) scored the most points against us.

Exactly! It's a bit. It's intended to either make you giggle or get mad. It's just a bit.

I wasn't trying to compare The Gords to Bobby D. I also don't dislike Bobby D as much as some do here. It does sound like Bobby D prefers the NFL to the college game but that's irrelevant.

You're not in the minority. Or I'm just part of the minority.

I called that last blitz out during the game.

I'm sitting with some friends and family watching the game with 11 seconds left. I said to my cousin "I know conventional wisdom says you play soft, heck I coach and that is what I would do" (even if they get 20 yards okay you get the 30 they have run up there and spike it try a long FG with a struggling kicker in horrible conditions) "but $10 bucks says Van Gorder says to himself f$ck this sh*t! and says lets just win (or lose) the game right now" and sends the everything including the kitchen sink at them"

He said "your on Van Gorder is aggressive but he won't do it here."

Sure enough BVG sent the troops.

I can't remember the last time I loved watching a defense like I do this one. I'm not quite sure if it's because of all of the freshman, the aggressiveness, or just because they all play together.....but hell they kick ass and look like they have fun doing it!

5 years recruiting players that are RKG's, in which has been lost in all the acronyms we have tried to replace. RKG is that reason our D is what It is

I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds this annoying as hell. The smart ass snarky look him and Davis have on their faces when Lou talks about the Irish is old news now. I find it kinda stupid and childish.

In my opinion all three of them need to stop. The whole shtick is annoying.

I know, but even I get tired of that shit bro. I don't hate ESPN at all, but it's the same old song and dance. "They haven't played anybody" or after we beat someone that was going to beat us, "they weren't that good," blah, blah, blah. Seems silly to me. And seriously, what in the hell is the point of having your own network if the commentators are going to root for the other team? Mayock says that it's football after Trumbetti takes a shot to the head against Michigan that was clearly targeting? I just don't get it.

Still I am happier than a pig in shit, and you know what's better than 5-0? Well, 6-0, let's get it!

I get tired of it. I just turn the channel when they come on. There's just very little real analysis that goes on during that 4 minutes, from Mark or Lou.
