I hope Greg Hudson enjoys being the whipping boy for the next 8 weeks. It's not realistic to expect significant improvement, although seeing flashes of Julian Love and Donte Vaughn make me hopeful it won't be that long of a rebuild starting next year.

That's my thinking as well.
Less than 24 hours ago Kelly was adamant that the coaching staff wasn't the problem.
Now he makes the call to fire his DC?

Wouldn't be shocked at all to hear Kelly's agent is making NFL calls starting tomorrow.

Who is picking up the phone on the other end? Not a lot of teams in the market for a 1-3 coach with a history of getting beat by teams with inferior talent.

Well this is good news, it had to happen.

Strangely I feel bad for the guy.

Looking at the Defenses he coached before ND, it doesn't seem like he would be that much of an improvement anyway.

BVG is BK's fault. Remember those words.

This should have be done after 2015. Two seasons have now been torpedoed by defense incompetence.

Kelly must go.

I disagree. He just needs to find that capable DC and we'll be fine. His teams will always score enough to win. But yes...he hung on to BVG too long.

So I just looked at his resume for the first time. He has never coached at one place for more than 3 years and a lot were only 1-2 years. Makes you wonder why.

I wish him all the luck in the future but I am glad ND will get a change. It was definitely needed.

ANd that was a horrible coaching decision. Among many others he has made in the past.

He needs to go.

If things improve, the question will be: why wasn't this move made in January? Just like it how was immediately clear to everyone in Austin that DK was the guy, but Kelly apparently had not seen this during camp, it was clear to everyone that BVG had to go after last season. But no change was made, because BK is an arrogant prick who takes no responsibility for his failures.

If things don't improve, Kelly has his marching orders. Maybe our Brownies will hire him.

I'm glad we got a domer as a replacement. Fresh blood is good.

If you look at the Texas A&M defense over the past three years and look at what Chevis did with a royal turd.... It can be done.

I don't believe this for one second.
So you think he had a Epiphany and realized he was wrong? No most likely Swarbrick sat him down and told something needs to change.

I'm taking Kelly at his word(s) about the coaches being fine. And why shouldn't I? He has said the same thing about every week. But this last PC probably was enough for Swarbrick.

Do you mean Chris Partridge the linebackers/special teams coach for Michigan? That would be interesting. Recruiter of the year in 2015 and former high school coach in NJ.

Or he didn't want to openly rip his DC to the public. But Swarbrick could be the reason too

Maybe he can teach them to tackle though.

While I take no joy in anyone getting fired, this was long overdue. I'm stunned by his incompetence and complete lack of adjustments. I don't know much about Hudson, but hopefully he brings a positive voice into the room. Simplify shit and let your athletes play. Now lets let Sanford call games and see some of that creativity we were promised.

As I've posted before. BVG came into Georgia Southern and ruined that program for a while also. He decided to go spread offense instead of the triple option they recruited for, for years. I believe we will be 120% better come Stanford game.
