You know damn well that kid should've never been up on that scissor-lift. There is simply no excuse for it. Unforgivable. Dont care what you think.

Correct. There are strict rules for working heights using scissor lifts, particularly in windy/ not ideal conditions. IDK if BK should have known those rules but someone should have at the school. Bad thing is is that I saw another sciossor lift at a similar height during the camps at Carver. Smh

We need to bring in a guy with some fire! A guy who can recruit his ass off and sell his Defense. A guy with ties to the south or west coast

Glad they finally made the decision but it's far too late. It should have been done at the end of last year at the latest. I can't believe it went through spring and fall camps and BK was unaware at how poorly the fundamentals were being coached while simualtaneouy installing a defense as complex as BVG did. Bad thing is is that we don't know who made the call but regardless he threw his entire team under the bus yesterday and was very pleased with coaching yet today BVG is gone.... So unclassy

Rumors are rampant that Jack over ruled Kelly and if Kelly doesn't save the season there will be a mutual parting of ways.

Yea great job firing him, but why did you wait so damn long? Waiting until keeping his is untenable does not inspire confidence in his future decision making.

Pretty sure we have a thread for this. And it's not this one.

Interesting nugget from Dave Aranda's Wikipedia page:

On January 1st, 2016, it was announced that Aranda was hired to replace Kevin Steele as defensive coordinator for the LSU Tigers.[14] The move to LSU saw his starting salary nearly tripling from $520,000 to starting at $1.3 million. His contract is guaranteed for three years and is not tied to the contract of LSU head coach Les Miles.[15]

Guess he isnt coming to ND.

Hudson has had success at Florida State and elsewhere.

VanGorder Relieved of Duties; Hudson Assumes Responsibilities :: Notre Dame Football :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

Hudson helped the Seminoles improve from 108th in total defense the year prior to his arrival (2009) to second among all FBS teams in 2012 (only BCS national champion Alabama had a higher rated defense). In addition in `12, Florida State ranked second in the FBS in fewest first downs allowed (ranked 93rd in 2009), third in rush defense (ranked 108th in 2009), third in third down efficiency (ranked 101st in 2009) and sixth in scoring defense (ranked 94th in 2009).

In 2011, Hudson's linebackers accounted for 32 percent of the Seminoles' tackles for loss which helped Florida State finish eighth nationally in that category. FSU allowed its opponents to run for an average of just 2.35 yards per carry, which led the nation. The Seminoles finished second nationally in rushing defense (82.7), fourth in scoring defense (15.1), eighth in tackles for loss (8.62) and tied for eighth in sacks (3.08 per game).

Hudson joined the Florida State staff after spending five seasons as the defensive coordinator at East Carolina (2005-09).

During his tenure with the Pirates, East Carolina registered four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in 30 years and made four consecutive bowl appearances for the first time in school history. The Pirates also became the first team to win consecutive Conference USA championship games, pulling off the feat in 2008 and 2009. Hudson's defenses earned a reputation for turning over opponents, coming up with 145 takeaways in five seasons, an average of 29 per season, which ranked among the top 10 of all FBS programs in that stretch. In 2009, the Pirates finished in the top 10 nationally in four defensive categories, including fumbles recovered (third), red zone defense (seventh), turnovers forced (fourth) and turnover margin (10th). Hudson's unit also led Conference USA in scoring defense (21.93) and turnover margin.

After Kelly's unwavering support it seems highly likely Swarbrick sat him down...

That's my thinking as well.
Less than 24 hours ago Kelly was adamant that the coaching staff wasn't the problem.
Now he makes the call to fire his DC?

Wouldn't be shocked at all to hear Kelly's agent is making NFL calls starting tomorrow.

BVG is BK's fault. Remember those words.

This should have be done after 2015. Two seasons have now been torpedoed by defense incompetence.

Kelly must go.

Kelly has 5 years left on his deal which is worth $20m.Pay him and still pay a replacement $20m or more.Things arent that dire - yet.
