I was worried that we could give up 45 today. I know GT scored some junk TDs late, but I was pleasantly surprised with the defensive effort and the plan from our embattled DC. Thoughts?
We put the disguised coverages--the complicated blitzes--the entire NFL scheme on the shelf.
We let our players play college football ---we depended on speed, size, tackling, & discipline---not that much thinking lots of playing.
We have the athletes to play good defense , the question is are we getting the best out of our guys when we move to the more complex NFL scheme. Personally I would like to see more man to man defense , more simplicity and less clever disguises of our coverages and blitzes.
You can't shut down this option that everyone is afraid of with an NFL scheme or without really good players.
I hope BVG learns something from this , our pass coverages even at the end of this game, are often lacking.
Interesting to see if we simplify things.
Maybe i'm dense......
If the triple option was so hard to stop why isn't everyone running it??? Or at least major portions of it??
What was the last triple option team to win a National Championship?

Come on now, that was a really satisfying win. Get off the backs of those coaches who lead this team every day.
pleasantly surprised? we dominated on defense, late scores were garbage.
I'm definitely not an overly critical fan, but that Showtime series has really opened my eyes to this team and the relationships they have with the coaches. Shit happens in football, and you really can lose to anyone on any given day. There is definitely an ebb and flow to this beautiful game. It's amazing how close the line is from genius to asshole on Saturdays. I really do like this coaching staff, they are doing some good things and will continue to do so. There are always going to be tough games against unexpected opponents in major college football.
I think everybody deserves some credit on this. Elliot, BVG, entire defense, BK. Honestly one of the most satisfying victories during BK's tenure. Very good effort by the D
That's the best performance (for 59 minutes) that anyone has put on Georgia Tech in a very long time. Scheme was excellent, players were excellent.
As an aside, their one legit TD drive was the result of a big play that had at least 3 OBVIOUS holds including one that was instrumental in springing the back past the linebacker. Notre Dame could've legitimately pitched a shutout. It doesn't get better than that.

Lucky explained the recruiting part of it well but there are other reasons.
One is that it's a very effective front-running offense but if you get behind schedule on first and second down, or get behind in the game, you typically don't have the quick strike potential. With the current high scoring game it's a gamble to run an offense that doesn't provide the quick strike.
Also, part of its effectiveness in this day and age is its novelty. You maybe see it once a year at best and have to completely rearrange personnel and scheme for one game. You build a speedy defense to compete against an environment of spread em out offense and it's tough to defend the triple option.

I wonder if all those years of playing Navy actually helped today. I think GT is good and will give everyone they play problems.
Cut blocking is never excessive. It's a legitimate tactic, and they did it all game. We finally defended it properly and when you defend it properly you don't get hurt.A lot of people make the obvious comparison, but is it actually that similar? GT doesn't recruit with the best of them, but they do well usually getting ~20 plus 3* with some 4* sprinkled in. Point is, unlike Navy they get some prototypical size O-linemen. Meaning that they can try and go toe to toe with the D line on blocks. Navy's always relied on undersized linemen cut blocking that have driven us crazy. I mean it is Paul Johnson, was there excessive cut blocking today? I didn't really notice?
