Murray is actually a little bit worse than the 105.1 passer rating against would suggest.
He was in the "enviable" position of being on a pretty terrible pass defense last season, where he wasn’t necessarily isolated and targeted any more often than anybody else. On a defense where he’d be a weaker link by a large degree, and thus would draw a lot of targets, he’d have likely graded even worse….he’s the kinda guy where volume hurts him more than helps him.
And he’s no prize as a tackler. Coming from Chiefs fans, think about what that means.
I actually have no idea what the Browns were thinking here, outside of the familiarity angle. I can see how you might not have pictured Ogbah as a key piece moving forward, so get something for him now.
But then get something for him….Murray ain’t that. It’s not like he was a guy who even really flashed while he was here….if there were some flashes that spoke to a higher ceiling, I’d maybe even understand it as an overly optimistic roll of the dice. But Murray’s "flashes" were the times we thought "ok, that wasn’t absolutely the most terrible thing we’ve ever seen".
Sorry, brother….when the 31st-ranked defense looks at this trade and says "wow…glad he’s gone", you got taken.
