Arkansas is currently listed as Sagarin's #113 teamat a rating of 58.73

ND could raise the SOS by a touchdown by playing Arkansas STATE instead. Sagarin rates the Red Wolves as his #81 team with a rating of 65.29

Ideally he doesn’t hang on past his expiration date. I think a HC emeritus Brian Kelly would be a great help for his successor in navigating the pitfalls which marred the first half of Kelly’s tenure.

That's a big concern for me. I'd really like to see Kelly and ND part on good terms. Seems more likely that the transition to his successor will be handled better that way too.

Purdue did this with Keady and Painter. Everyone knew Keady was done, but they didn't want to just throw him to the curb considering all of his success, so they brought in Painter who spent a year as the AHC before assuming the big chair.

I believe BK will depart on good terms and there's nothing to indicate that he won't. IMO he's good for one more extension before stepping down on his terms.

I really like CBK.....but he seems a bit disinterested the past month or so. I think he may have an NFL offer out there or something more easy in CFB ranks.

"he seems disinterest..."

What evidence of this have you noticed?

Obviously many many variables to play out. And Wake-Wisconsin-Stanford-Pitt is a rugged stretch. But we should be favored in every game up to Clemson. If we're undefeated for that, would be our biggest home game in how long? Then Louisville and USC should both be significantly better than the versions we saw this year. Could be a fun November.

Yeah, it seems Arkansas and Western Michigan will be nice tune-ups, but if Wake, Pitt, Wisconsin, USC, and Louisville are anything like what they are this year, that's a rugged stretch in October and November for sure. But who knows, CFB changes so much year to year with those teams

I hope when BK thinks it’s time for him to retire from ND Matt Rhule is available to be his successor. Matt Rhule would be perfect at Notre Dame IMO.

Rhule is destined for the NFL, my friend.

Is there a bat phone for that or a couple of soup cans attached to a string?

They upgraded to fiber using 10lb test monofilament.

You never know. Seems when a season should be tough, it ends up easier and vice versa.

With the depth we have on the defensive line, the nearly intact returning oline, and the skill position players lined up for next year... we should better. We only play 3 true road games and our biggest game is at home against Clemson 2/3 through the year (and we play an SEC team to boost our SOS). We are set up very nicely for 2020. Time for Kelly to get us back in the playoffs?

Sept. 5 — Navy (MetLife Stadium, E. Rutherford, N.J)

Sept. 12 — ARKANSAS

Sept. 19 — WESTERN MICHIGAN

Sept. 26 — vs. Wake Forest (Charlotte, N.C.)

Oct. 3 — vs. Wisconsin (Green Bay, Wis.)

Oct. 10 — STANFORD

Oct. 16 — at Pitt

Oct. 31— DUKE

Nov. 7 — CLEMSON

Nov. 14 — at Georgia Tech

Nov. 21 — LOUISVILLE

Nov. 28 — at USC

Way too early for 2020 talk, but focusing solely on ND it will come down to Oline and quarterback. Both have to get much better for a playoff run.

And that's assuming Clark Lea is still at ND in 2020 and will field a solid defense. Then who knows what teams like Louisville, USC, Pitt, and Wiscy will look like in 2020.

I think defensive back will be our biggest issue (question mark?).

What evidence of this have you noticed?

All of it....pressers, interviews, radio show. Lack of participation on campus, on sports programs..etc. Personal interaction as his landscape designer on the new house. The list is long.

You are the landscape designer on Brian Kelly’s new house?

Yes, and many of the homes on Diamond Lake.

Cool. This board never ceases to amaze.

No idea what that means/says about his fire for the job. Despite the politician demeanor BK has always struck me as somewhat cool and reserved, personally (not uncommon among us Bostonians). And maybe after a decade he’s just weary of the radio show bit?

Wait, why does it say Navy in the Meadowlands next year? What happened to Ireland?

Probably Brexit fallout.

NJ annexes Ireland. They actually had geological connections on Pangea some 200 million years ago.

Yes, and many of the homes on Diamond Lake as well as other ND coaches and administrators.

If this character has anything to do with BK or his personal belongings I'll personally shoot myself in the foot...

Isn't the Navy game the last week in August, and played in Ireland? You are right, schedule sets up nicely if Irish beat Wisconsin in Green Bay. The month of November is set up so that if ND sweeps they should be in position for playoff.

No particular reason to mention this other than it came up in Pete Sampson’s mailbag today and kind of surprised me.

Notre Dame under Brian Kelly is - by my count - 3-8 against Top 10 teams (as ranked at the time of the game). Not great. One of the big knocks on him, that he doesn’t win the big games.

Of those 11 games against Top 10 teams, just one has been at home. That was Stanford last year, who was a pretty soft #8.

There are some bowl games in there, and weird circumstances like FSU being great when we went down there but crap last year when they came to our place.

Still, wild, and some poor/unfortunate scheduling on ND’s part.

Only one of those games being a home game is brutal. Just unfortunate timing of when the ACC programs were rolling, such as @ FSU or @ Clemson, for example, as you alluded to, then getting a FSU ultra-light in '18.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but part of that seems like the Athletic Department's fault for the way they set up the ACC agreement. Would've been more ideal if they set up the five games in a home and home format rather than the seemingly random process we have now. Playing FSU in '14 and not again until '18, Clemson in '15 and not again until '19, etc.

We will get another crack at a top 10 team next fall with Clemson rolling in. But certainly this is the most noticeable chink in CBK's armor.

November 7th is gonna be so big for BK and this program, I just hope to Touchdown Jesus that we don't come out flat and get killed. At that point, it would be time to concede the fact that BK isn't gonna get over that hurdle. I'm gonna get tickets to that game, no matter how much my wallet hates me for it, so hopefully my presence will inspire the troops lol

I’m sure your unwavering positivity will most certainly do so.
