WE WANT GUS! WE WANT GUS!

Being that my opinion is worth about as much as a $2 bill, I don't think they were bad. I have certainly heard much worse. Herbie has always been fair to ND and just because he has gone against ND in the past, his reasons were always valid and ND proved him right multiple times.

Last night was the first time he has seen them live and he is impressed. I think he is a good analyst. Musberger is a legend and although I am not as big a fan of his as others, he didn't do bad either, although claiming ND said it was Te'o's first INT (when it wasn't nor was it even an INT) was wrong.

The combo of Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge is my personal favorite and anything involving Gus Johnson is phenomenal.

Top Three Mush-Burger Gems Last night:
1. Manti's 1st INT.
2. ND's easy schedule.
3. Brady Quinn won't play as long as he's behind Peyton Manning in Denver.

I'll give Herbie cred for owning that he has said ND is irrelevant and that they are not (no longer). Gained much respect there.
I can't deal with talking heads that just word vomit during a game like Musburger did last night, do your job and know what the hell you're talking about.

Super respect for him telling Frosted Tips that ND is ALWAYS relevant, just not winning.
Extra Gem: I was unaware that Brent was such a huge Dave Matthews fan! :)

999, 1 to go.

Jho15... I'm waiting for the day Hammond thinks Manti is in at QB not #5 EG... I truly believe it's coming :)

I don't usually care for ole Mush-burger, but I was rather surprised how positive he and Herbie were about the Irish last night. However, I did catch several of those errors like the Brady Quinn mention and saying that was T'eo's first INT (Although he did state he got that information from the stat sheet). However, the most disappointing comment was that Brent is a Dave Matthews fan.

i prefer muss and herb over some of the other announcers i listened to yesterday. In the unlv/ wash st game the anouncer said wash st was going to run the ball on 4th down so that even if they didnt get the first down the clock would keep running. Hello? the clock stops on change of possession.

Going into the game I'll admit I wasn't thrilled about the prospect of Brent/Kirk for three hours.

But when the clock struck 8:00 and the first shot was the blimp overhead of Spartan Stadium and that ABC BCS music cranked up and I heard "YOU ARE LOOKING LIVE..."

I went from being intrigued about the game to absolutely JACKED.

Personally think Herbie was fair and clearly impressed with ND's performance and athleticism. Musberger's announcing was shi*t. He is past his prime and clealry doesn't do the hard work to be an informed game caller anymore. That being said they are much better than the majority of announcers. Unfortunatley unbiased, informed and artistic game calling seems to be a rare thing.

BM comment about ND always being relevent just not winning, seemed to be more of a jab at ND's past 15 years than affirmation of their relevence dispite poor records. Just my two cents . . . Either way I am way more jacked about ND's promise this year than crappy announcing

The point I think that BM was making was that nobody else would be considered relevant to CFB if they were not consistently, except for ND, that the Irish remain relevant to CFB, in spite of their lack of success in the last fifteen years.

Of course the fact that ppl keep saying that ND is no longer relevant every year just shows how relevant ND football still is to this day....and let us hope that Kelly keeps us in the conversation for many years to come.

Honestly, Muss makes a lot of mistakes, but his voice is made for announcing. Love his commentary, albeit sometimes inaccurate

I thought the announcers were fine...the only thing I didnt like is when brent musberger said that Prince Shembo was a sophomore...I was like, Damn??!! dude is a soph, wah?! ...but deep down i knew it wasnt true, it was just a small moment of torture...thanks Brent.

i took it more as him saying that even though notre dame might have had bad seasons that they still were always very capable of providing an upset to big teams such as usc, michigan and others. That they were never looked at as an easy game. even when they were at their worst.

Anyone else irate at Musberger's announcing last night? I think he needs to retire. He repeatedly and i mean repeatedly was talking as if the game was completely over starting when there was about 6 or 7 minutes left in the game and we were only up 2 touchdowns and Mich State had 3 timeouts. If he did it just once then i could have overlooked it....but i'd say it was about 7 or 8 times he referenced a ND win. Until we made the field goal to go up 20-3 i thought Mich State was very much in the game and it was by no means over.

A lot of you rip NBC but NBC was the best announcing we've had this season. CBS was brutal. ABC was brutal. (I love how Musberger said he bet that was Manti's first ever INT last night!) Also there was a big play where ABC switched to it way too late.
Those people dont know this team 1% of most of the people on this board-hell many people on the board could do a better job providing info than those clowns. You could tell early on they had their big 10 pompoms out. But it didnt take a genius to see that Sparty was cooked unless something crazy happened-it did not. D'Antonio did the one thing he couldnt afford to do and that was no passing game until it was obvious they had to-by then it was to late. Its becoming apparent Notre Dame has the best athlete on the field-their QB.

I had no problem with Brent/Mus. They really talked us up, and they both give it a big game feel

I thought Herbie was kind of speechless at the end, fumbling for words. He wanted to say ND is a legit contender to make a run this year but twenty years of history kept him from spitting it out. I am real curious to see how he talks about us on Gameday this week. I bet he says our front seven can and will pull an Alabama on Denard and ND is a force to be reckoned with .... this year, but their schedule is too tough to run the gauntlet.

I thought they ignored our schedule strength and even look so far ahead to say we could head into Norman undefeated. WHAT? We play Michigan, Stanford and BYU before OK, three ranked teams including the one pulling a huge upset parallel to our win.

All of ESPN acts like beating some directional school by 50 is better than beating #10 by 17 on their turf.

At the end of the day, I'm OK with their calling of the game. Our play demanded respect. I am not sure if they were reluctant or hesitant to provide it.

Love Herbie, he has always been fair. Recall that he bought in hard at the beginning of the Weis Era and I believe he even picked us pre-season to go to the championship Brady's senior year. I detest Musberger, he is the standard bearer for B1G elitism and can't accept that speed has surpassed size as the most desirable attribute in modern football.

Brent Musburger is an intelligent man and has been a fine professional for decades. In these later years he doesn't seem to work as hard on pre-game prep as he used to, but we all get older. I have never felt any anti-ND bias out of Brent. He also has a long-term football perspective which is why he understands that ND is [always] relevant. Because people on IE follow ND minutiae we are going to be jarred by errors from busy people who cannot spend their entire pre-game week studying up on Notre Dame. Some of them are going to blow a pronunciation now and then. Persons who can't understand why someone would say "Gholston" after a nationally famous AA type defender that they've heard a lot about, rather than "Golson" for an unknown rookie QB, need to look at their own magnificent perfection in the mirror all day. People who never make any mistakes should be running for Pope or GOD. In short, I thought the announcing was just fine.

People who like Tom Hammond are welcome to their [amazingly off-center] opinion. My irritation with Hammond stems from his Pat Haden days where he actually seemed programmed to try to see actions in the game in an opponent-favored way --- constantly seeing all close calls in an anti-ND bias. He was actually worse than Haden in this as their partnership grew. Mayock, thank God, has been a curative to this bias, but it is not quite gone in Hammond. Bless Mayock, as we are getting there. All Hammond's pronunciation errors are irrelevant to me. Who goes through life bothered by such trivia? Must be He!l to live in that skin.

I need to never open up one of these anti-announcer threads again, and apologize to the rest of you for having done so, and consequently commenting.

Fair point, I'm too young to have been exposed to the "fine professional" years so my basis of judgment is only his older, lazy years. I still think for the money he's earning and the audience that game commands, he should clean it up or move over for someone else.

I can see that. Having watched the game a second time I think my emotions got the best of me when I first heard them talking about ND's relevance. After hearing the dialogue a second time I would agree with a much more positive view of Herbie and Musbergers ND relevance comments.

I thought they did a better job than NBC. I despise Mayock and Hammond. They suck. I seldom listen to the game when its on NBC. Just eatch with it muted.

ABC did a much better job than CBS. I agree that Muss/Herbie give the game a big game/important game feel. The little name errors and misinformation do not bother me since they don't follow ND and their players on a week to week basis. I am sure when they cover other games and teams they make the same mistakes.

Normally, I hate when Herbie announces one of our games, but good god, I hope he got ND's phone number the way he was courting us the whole time. Hating on us for 15 yrs and had nothing but praise, and then he said the words my ears have been waiting to hear "This Notre Dame team IS relevant" it was like a trumpeting angel. It's not that I value Herbie's opinion, in fact, he should fly a kite and often, but it was very nice and definitely a confidence booster to hear one of the biggest ND haters say something nice about them. The next day Mark May tried to play a little with Lou about he has known all along ND was good. I'm just happy and optimistic about this season, our D was on fire. I'm too high from that MSU smack down to care about the announcing.

WOW! I can not believe that some folks take the announcing so serious. Mus did fine and so did Herb. The only thing that mattered was when they called out the FINAL score. If you don't like the announcing, do like ARALOU and I do, MUTE THE DAM TV. I personally mute the TV for at least part of every game because I enjoy hearing the play by play on Sirrius radio. I admit, Saturday I listened to Mus and Herb intermittently because I respect what they have to say. Herb is a fair man and Mus has seen A LOT of football. Heck, he is a walking, talking museum of college football. Hard to beat Tim Brown and Don Criqui last week.
